@Shokhet thank you for your vigilance.
@MoriDoweedhYaa3qob erev tov (if I am correctly remembering where you are)! Sorry I missed you earlier.

@MonicaCellio 3arav 6ov i am in ny

@IsaacMoses :P

@MoriDoweedhYaa3qob I thought I correctly remembered eastern US time zone. (Same time zone, different city, here.)

@MonicaCellio yes been a while since i was in this chat

2:36 AM
@MoriDoweedhYaa3qob welcome back!

@MonicaCellio thank you sister

We had a Mi Yodeya gathering in Silver Spring recently (Shabbat Vayeishev) to celebrate the site's fifth birthday. I didn't hear of anybody organizing a parallel one in New York, but maybe next time -- there are enough folks there, I think.

Straw poll: upvote this comment if you'd come to a Mi Yodeya Shabbaton in, say, the New York area. — Shokhet Oct 28 at 3:00

@Shokhet yeah. I was hoping y'all would manage to do something there so we could have parallel celebrations. Anyway, I had fun at the one I went to!

@MonicaCellio thats nice to hear

2:43 AM
@MonicaCellio I wish I could have been there :( ....glad you guys had a good time!

@Shokhet I am really glad I drove down for it. @IsaacMoses and his family are lovely people and great hosts, and I got to meet several other Yodeyans and sometimes spouses.

@MonicaCellio Cool!

3:04 AM
@Shokhet it was! And one oddity: some people work to separate their legal and online identities, such that I met some Yodeyans whose user names I don't know, because we did introductions using people's real names.

@MonicaCellio Huh. So for all you know, I was there..... :P

@Shokhet it's entirely possible! Except that Isaac knew who everybody was and he said I was the only one who came in from out of town. But then, maybe your suggestion for an NYC gathering was a clever ruse!

@MonicaCellio :)

@Shokhet he says, neither confirming nor denying...

@MonicaCellio LOL!

@IsaacMoses I guess I'm just behind the times ...

@TonyEnnis If you have a halachic source for that I'd love to see it! — Shokhet 16 secs ago
@Yishai Wait. That was our Alex?

@Shokhet Yup

@Yishai I saw the congratulatory messages, and didn't put that together. Wow!

@Shokhet He has revealed his identity in a few comments on the site, and it was brought up in chat before, so I wasn't revealing anything not otherwise available.

@Yishai I figured you wouldn't do that if he didn't mind. Cool!

6:04 PM
@Yishai @Shokhet For instance, here: judaism.stackexchange.com/a/16170/759

@DoubleAA Got it. That's pretty cool!
Now I'm just more impressed with Alex :)

6:19 PM
@Yishai I hit 2K. How's that for a copy editor‌? :P
( check what that's a response to, that goes far back :P)
@IsaacMoses Regarding this; I'm not sure.
.....If you'll tell me that it depends on the דעת of the bikelord (a source would be nice, but I think it's מסתבר), and that we can't determine that דעת without asking, I think that's an okay answer, certainly.
....by that logic, @DoubleAA might answer the question also.

6:36 PM
@Shokhet it would be ironic if we got an answer to the question about grace periods...in the bounty grace period. :-)

@MonicaCellio :)
@MonicaCellio You have experience with mod pro-tem nominations, right? ....do you think I should put anything more in here?

6:55 PM
@Shokhet Mazal tov on making Copy Editor, and yeyasher kochacha on all of your great work to make MY's content better and better for the 3000 people who look at it each day. I would also like to note that you are the fastest earner of this badge, taking only 243 days since you showed up here, taking this distinction from the venerable @DoubleAA, who took all of 331 days to achieve the same feat.
@Shokhet (IOW: "far back"? You've only been around for eight months!)

@IsaacMoses :P
@IsaacMoses Thank you. I didn't realize that this was so fast!

@Shokhet It's a shame that that "treasure hunter" getup doesn't come with a nice, sharp cutlass for you.
2

@IsaacMoses :)
....depending on the shape, a cutlass might even be good for שחיטה! :P

@Shokhet that looks good to me. The main points to cover are what you've been doing on the site already and any special experience/skills you bring. (If you feel the experience you've gained with using high-rep-user tools here would help you there, for example, you could mention that. But your nomination looks strong to me already.)
@Shokhet :-) A belated congratulations on achieving Copy Editor!

@MonicaCellio Okay, thanks. ....I'm getting the feeling that I have a good shot at it, anyway, since I'm in the top three accepted nominations, by a lot.
@MonicaCellio Not so belated -- I got it 45 minutes ago :P

7:02 PM
@Shokhet that's significant. BTW, here's my nomination on Worldbuilding: meta.worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/a/117/28 (I've been nominated on a couple others, but that one was successful. :-) )
@Shokhet ah. Ok, a not-yet-belated congratulations, then! :-)

@MonicaCellio I see. SE tells me that I voted on that post in October ;-)
@MonicaCellio :)

@IsaacMoses If I may, I only visited the site about a dozen times during the first 4 months of my usership, only picking up around Nov 21 with my first ever edit on Nov 23.

@Shokhet oh, I hadn't realized. Anyway, votes at this point would be irrelevant; I really was just pointing to an example.

@MonicaCellio I know votes aren't relevant -- I clearly saw that post and voted on it, even if I don't remember seeing it ;-)

@DoubleAA 20-20 hindsight :)

7:06 PM
@MonicaCellio Thanks for showing me the example; it looks good.

@Shokhet every site is different (blah blah blah), and I think one CM will make the decisions and it's not necessarily the same CM for each site, but my guess is that if the top candidates are also collectively a good team (not missing any critical skills etc), then they'll probably pick those because of the community support. Good luck! (And if for some reason you don't get it now, you could end up in the job later -- people do drop out sometimes, or a site just needs more than three.)

@MonicaCellio I see. I thought it was the decision of a consensus of CMs, but I don't know for sure. Thanks for the support! :)

@Shokhet they might talk with each other; not sure. The email I got didn't strongly imply one way or the other, but kind of read like it was one person. (OTOH, it was almost certainly a form letter, so who knows?)

@MonicaCellio That's true. Why would they write new letters for each appointment?

Anyway, I don't know much of anything about Life Hacks, either the concept or the SE site, but you're obviously engaged with the site and you know your way around SE from here, so it sounds like you'd be a good fit.

7:15 PM
@MonicaCellio Thanks :)

@Shokhet right. There was a sentence or so of customization, but the info they need to convey is the same everywhere.

@Shokhet Maybe we'll get to see you in the TL someday

@DoubleAA TL = ?

@DoubleAA Got it. Cool!

7:23 PM
@DoubleAA Some uber-secret room you used to have!

@IsaacMoses Newest question about it is from '12. Is it still around?

@Shokhet Last post in it was 7 min ago

@Shokhet TTBOMK, it is. I was just making a Simpsons reference to @DoubleAA's spilling the beans.

@DoubleAA Cool.
@IsaacMoses Yeah, that went right over my head :P
@DoubleAA Do you have a source for this answer that deals with the question more directly? ....this is what I know, and it answers the question indirectly, but I think that a more direct source would be nice.
@IsaacMoses I think that inspired my next shechita Q/A set, thanks! :)

7:41 PM
@Shokhet Yarhar!

@IsaacMoses There are actually several issues with it....I started writing the question, but I probably won't post it till מוצאי שבת or Sunday
....I will definitely have to wear the hat when I post that one :P

8:04 PM
Have a good Shabbos, everyone! TZT! :)
