We had a Mi Yodeya gathering in Silver Spring recently (Shabbat Vayeishev) to celebrate the site's fifth birthday. I didn't hear of anybody organizing a parallel one in New York, but maybe next time -- there are enough folks there, I think.
@Shokhet I am really glad I drove down for it. @IsaacMoses and his family are lovely people and great hosts, and I got to meet several other Yodeyans and sometimes spouses.
@Shokhet it was! And one oddity: some people work to separate their legal and online identities, such that I met some Yodeyans whose user names I don't know, because we did introductions using people's real names.
@Shokhet it's entirely possible! Except that Isaac knew who everybody was and he said I was the only one who came in from out of town. But then, maybe your suggestion for an NYC gathering was a clever ruse!
@Shokhet He has revealed his identity in a few comments on the site, and it was brought up in chat before, so I wasn't revealing anything not otherwise available.
.....If you'll tell me that it depends on the דעת of the bikelord (a source would be nice, but I think it's מסתבר), and that we can't determine that דעת without asking, I think that's an okay answer, certainly.
....by that logic, @DoubleAA might answer the question also.
@Shokhet Mazal tov on making Copy Editor, and yeyasher kochacha on all of your great work to make MY's content better and better for the 3000 people who look at it each day. I would also like to note that you are the fastest earner of this badge, taking only 243 days since you showed up here, taking this distinction from the venerable @DoubleAA, who took all of 331 days to achieve the same feat.
@Shokhet (IOW: "far back"? You've only been around for eight months!)
@Shokhet that looks good to me. The main points to cover are what you've been doing on the site already and any special experience/skills you bring. (If you feel the experience you've gained with using high-rep-user tools here would help you there, for example, you could mention that. But your nomination looks strong to me already.)
@Shokhet :-) A belated congratulations on achieving Copy Editor!
@MonicaCellio Okay, thanks. ....I'm getting the feeling that I have a good shot at it, anyway, since I'm in the top three accepted nominations, by a lot.
@MonicaCellio Not so belated -- I got it 45 minutes ago :P
@Shokhet that's significant. BTW, here's my nomination on Worldbuilding: meta.worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/a/117/28 (I've been nominated on a couple others, but that one was successful. :-) )
@Shokhet ah. Ok, a not-yet-belated congratulations, then! :-)
@IsaacMoses If I may, I only visited the site about a dozen times during the first 4 months of my usership, only picking up around Nov 21 with my first ever edit on Nov 23.
@Shokhet every site is different (blah blah blah), and I think one CM will make the decisions and it's not necessarily the same CM for each site, but my guess is that if the top candidates are also collectively a good team (not missing any critical skills etc), then they'll probably pick those because of the community support. Good luck! (And if for some reason you don't get it now, you could end up in the job later -- people do drop out sometimes, or a site just needs more than three.)
@Shokhet they might talk with each other; not sure. The email I got didn't strongly imply one way or the other, but kind of read like it was one person. (OTOH, it was almost certainly a form letter, so who knows?)
Anyway, I don't know much of anything about Life Hacks, either the concept or the SE site, but you're obviously engaged with the site and you know your way around SE from here, so it sounds like you'd be a good fit.
@DoubleAA Do you have a source for this answer that deals with the question more directly? ....this is what I know, and it answers the question indirectly, but I think that a more direct source would be nice.
@IsaacMoses I think that inspired my next shechita Q/A set, thanks! :)
