@samcarter vvvv
Verily, it doth transpire that a curious happenstance hath come to light: a multitude of the denizens of TeX Live, it seems, doth not possess the mantle of humanity. Such an observation doth prompt a ponderous contemplation of the realms beyond mortal ken, where algorithms and scripts doth roam unfettered by the frailties of flesh. 'Tis a marvel, indeed, to witness the tapestry of technological prowess interwoven with the fabric of human endeavor. Mayhap, in this digital age, we are but witnesses to the grandeur of progress unfurled before our mortal eyes.
^^^ tempted to reply this. :)
@barbarabeeton ooh naughty fruit

@PauloCereda And though it be not the mantle of humanity they possess, it certainly is the mantle of anatity, quack.
(... the English equivalent of the German word "Entlichkeit" =) )

@DavidCarlisle Oh, but picture mode is only for the pros...
08:18

Friends, did any of you got arara 7.1.4? It's been on CTAN for 2 days but TL didn't catch it yet...
08:50
@PauloCereda Karl saving us from disaster?
@PauloCereda I just see an arara update
09:05
@UlrikeFischer AF files :(
@DavidCarlisle :-( one wonder why that doesn't get tested ...
09:26
@DavidCarlisle oh no
@UlrikeFischer ooh
@UlrikeFischer clearly you don't use Warwick as your texlive mirror
@DavidCarlisle ooh: pcmag.com/news/…

@UlrikeFischer @JosephWright do we know something in the prop handling has affected chemnum it falls over in a prop_map just before this diff .\prop_map_tokens:Nn #1#2->\exp_last_unbraced:Nnf which used to be \prop_map_tokens:Nn #1#2->\exp_last_unbraced:Nno ?
@DavidCarlisle I suspected the linked prop code, but didn't trace it yet.
@DavidCarlisle does the document compile with pdftex for you?
@UlrikeFischer I only have 2023 and 2024 on this machine and it fails in both as my 2023 was updated, but it fails on overleaf so I grabbed a tracingall log from there
@UlrikeFischer no I get the error shown in tl2023 and 2024
@DavidCarlisle in my normal test document it run away to line 9000 or so, I get the error only if I copy into a smaller document. But it errors also in 2022 so it can't be the prop-link code.
@UlrikeFischer smaller document? the test document is
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{chemnum}
\begin{document}
    \refcmpd{a}
\end{document}
18:44
@DavidCarlisle yes but if you have behind \end{document} lots of crap it can change the error message. But I was wrong: it does not error in tl2022, I had there a format which used a newer expl3.
18:58
@DavidCarlisle chemnum tries to get an item from an non-existing prop. This here compiles:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{chemnum}
\ExplSyntaxOn
\cs_set:Npn \chemnum_expandable_get_compound_property:nn #1#2
  { \prop_if_exist:cTF
      {g__chemnum_compound_#1_prop}
      {\prop_item:cn {g__chemnum_compound_#1_prop} {#2}}
      {\prop_new:c{g__chemnum_compound_#1_prop}}
  }
\ExplSyntaxOff

\begin{document}
\refcmpd{a}
\end{document}
@JosephWright ^^
19:14
@UlrikeFischer hmm do we say what prop_item is supposed to do in that case? (presumably its behaviour changed)
19:26
@DavidCarlisle well it is imho basically this error: github.com/latex3/latex3/issues/1455, but I'm not sure if one can give a better error message with \prop_item if is has to stay expandable?
@UlrikeFischer looks that way, so ask chemnum to change and add the test?
@UlrikeFischer I guess you should claim your green tick:-)
20:09
@DavidCarlisle got it ...
@UlrikeFischer :-)

I read ( https://github.com/fontforge/fontforge/issues/677 ):

"It's not likely that FontForge will ever be an appropriate tool for the design of COLR glyphs. The processes and abstractions involved are just too different."

So: which software do you use to make "color fonts"?
20:38
@cis note that's specifically about COLR format fonts not about colored fonts in general
@cis I have no experience with this, but probably commercial products like Fontlab or Glyphs would be the tool of choice.
@cis you could look at the tools used for noto emoji fonts github.com/googlefonts/noto-emoji/blob/main/requirements.txt
21:07
@Rmano Concerning “some font thing failed” and misrepresentation by evince and okular, does apparmor prevent access to locally installed fonts in a nonstandard location on the machine where the document is opened? Cf. superuser.com/questions/1830506 .
21:30
@DavidCarlisle Well \tl_item:Nn seems to be happy if the tl doesn't exist ...

1 hour later…
22:32
@JosephWright Nn errors, only cn works. But to quote you from here github.com/latex3/latex3/issues/1455#issuecomment-1945514852 it is not documented that it should work.
