Had the fun at work of a document in Publisher format today :)
@JosephWright Modern or pre 1993 Publisher?

@JosephWright Would it make sense to feature tex.meta.stackexchange.com/a/8856/36296 to increase visibility?
@daleif Office365
@samcarter Done
@JosephWright Thanks!
13:37
@JosephWright The older one was latex related.
@daleif Was it? I never looked inside the files
14:33
@JosephWright there has been several programmes called Publisher. I was referring to the programme mentioned here. tex.stackexchange.com/a/121340/3929 our copy was from 1993
@daleif Ah-m I was thinking of the Microsoft product, first launched in I think 1991
14:57
@JosephWright ALGERIAN font aaaaaaaaaaaa
I have trauma of that font
@JosephWright I think the company behind still exist, they do XML stuff nowadays.
@PauloCereda don't worry, it can always come worse cdn3.fontspring.com/images/fontmesa/82/c364/taco_fp-950x475.jpg :)
Doesn't Algerian look so much nicer in comparison?
@samcarter oh no
@PauloCereda sorry :)
@samcarter it looks like their Mexican cousin :)
15:10
@PauloCereda yes, it is called "taco"
@samcarter ooh
@DavidCarlisle oh no :)
15:29
@DavidCarlisle oh no
@samcarter sorry:
@DavidCarlisle you're mean :)
Jul 24 '17 at 15:28, by Paulo Cereda
@samcarter you are mean <3
16:26
Am I qualified to make my first official blame in here?
@LaTeXereXeTaL Only if you blame @UlrikeFischer unjustly.
@LaTeXereXeTaL ooh
@AlanMunn Well, I can blame @UlrikeFischer for my now using LuaLaTeX for everything, but I had someone else in mind.
@LaTeXereXeTaL Start small, but with a bit of exercise, you can soon blame @DavidCarlisle
@samcarter Wellllllllll.....that's what I had in mind. LOL
16:30
@LaTeXereXeTaL :P
Setting a low bar: Contributions to this repository must:
• Be functional -- they must work in at least some particular circumstance.
2
I blame @DavidCarlisle for my new habit of using \zzzz and variations for quick testing purposes.
3
Funny how I've started doing that.
@samcarter I hope you don't mean me with small ;-)
@UlrikeFischer I wouldn't dare to :)
@AlanMunn This repository is totally missing a "don't break stuff in all other circumstances" guideline :)
@LaTeXereXeTaL ooh a blame
@AlanMunn hypothetical circumstance counts? :)
16:37
I hope I did that correctly.
@LaTeXereXeTaL Shall we sent you a German keyboard to cure you?
@samcarter oon ein Deustchekeyboard
@samcarter nein
@PauloCereda close :) eine Tastatur
@LaTeXereXeTaL schade
@samcarter LOL I had to use Google to translate that, which is sad because my ancestors were German. I should learn the language.
16:41
@LaTeXereXeTaL @PauloCereda can teach you, he knows all the important concepts like removing all spaces
@samcarter And I know chocolate, cake and duck
@AlanMunn -- would "peculiar circumstances" work?
@LaTeXereXeTaL -- There are some things that ancestors just don't help with.
@barbarabeeton and others: got an email from atipo about their new font Novela: atipofoundry.com/fonts/novela
@PauloCereda The pricing model is interesting
@samcarter I've bought two font families from them, it's really worth it.
16:48
@LaTeXereXeTaL my work here is done.
@PauloCereda The italic Q is nice
ooh
@samcarter <3
@PauloCereda -- I really like the italic cap "Q" -- the tail looks like a ribbon. But the lowercase italic "s", which also looks like a ribbon, I don't think is quite successful.
@barbarabeeton oopsie
@PauloCereda -- I like the oldstyle numerals. The zero is always a problem, and this one is somewhat peculiar, but totally understandable. The "one" is really nice. I wonder what the lining numerals look like -- those are sometimes needed too, at least for math.
16:56
@barbarabeeton have you installed the font, or is there a web view of the full alphabet?
@DavidCarlisle -- No, haven't installed it. Have just looked carefully at all the examples.
@DavidCarlisle there is a try button at the bottom which lets you enter custom texts
@samcarter just what I needed, thanks
17:04
@samcarter -- The two Euro symbols are different, and I think the dollar signs are too, And only one vertical in the latter; two may be more common, but context should make the meaning clear. No examples of the pound sign. (I'm quibbling.)
The horizontals are very thin. They will certainly disappear in a photocopy, and suffer in math scripts if those sizes are simply downscaled rather than designed.
@DavidCarlisle oh no
@samcarter ooh
@barbarabeeton The demo defaults to the display version. The regular one is much more readable in small sizes.
@MarcelKrüger -- A good thing.

Q: Unpinning the accepted answer from the top of the list of answers

egregThe title is the same as in the corresponding topic on Meta.StackExchange.com Unpinning the accepted answer from the top of the list of answers Today we changed the way we sort answers on Stack Overflow. We no longer pin the accepted answer (with the green checkmark) to the top of the list of an...

Please 'vote' using @egreg's CW answer
18:34
@barbarabeeton the display series is indeed very thin - I don't think they consider the possible of a not ultra-high-res-whatever display
@samcarter -- I admit that I'm still resolutely "tied to" paper.
@PauloCereda This is a deep philosophical question I'm not prepared to answer. :)
@AlanMunn ooh
@barbarabeeton Unlike @PauloCereda's 'hypothetical circumstance', one supposes that 'peculiar' would meet the demands of the existential quantifier. :)
18:53
@barbarabeeton :) I hope you have enough in paper in stock
@JosephWright Not really convinced. tex.meta.stackexchange.com/a/8857/2693
@samcarter -- Admittedly, I'm keeping things that started out in electronic form in that form, and not printing it out. And I've managed to limit my acquisition of (most) books by living just down the street from the library. But there are needs for some paper products, and we try to manage our supplies carefully.
@barbarabeeton I think you're replying to @samcarter not me.
@AlanMunn -- Silly laptop cursor. Curses!
19:23
@barbarabeeton ooh a terminal control library for Unix-like systems (curses). :)
19:33
@PauloCereda -- Yup.

21:31
@JosephWright only 300 points? Weren't 20.000?
@CarLaTeX Must be the rules
@JosephWright how do you find this message if you don't look in the chat?
21:49
@UlrikeFischer It will appear as a banner when the election starts
@JosephWright oh, so we got a VIP preview.
@UlrikeFischer Yup
@UlrikeFischer Special Powers
22:17
@UlrikeFischer On SO there was also an inbox notification when the election started (and a badge if you would visit the page)
@samcarter oh a badge ;-)
@JosephWright On other sites I recall seeing questions that potential candidates answered. No idea whether we need/want that or how it was implemented? Perhaps with a separate meta question>?
@AlanMunn On SO a staff member posted such a question meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/411988/… No idea if this will also be done for smaller sites
@UlrikeFischer this would be something to look forward to if only my replace-badges-with-ducks userscript would still work... these coloured circles are so boring!
22:32
@samcarter I still have ducks everywhere.
@UlrikeFischer :( I lost them in a firefox update
