@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz I have a local version of highlight.js checked out if I get a bit of time I may set up a github repo where people can work on better regex for latex before making a PR to the upstream highlight.js
@UlrikeFischer I do. But I am so old-fashioned, I still run latex in a terminal window instead of inside emacs. I haven't set up preview either; I just keep the file open in skim.
@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz I hoped I wouldn't have to decide it ;-). The french translation uses "vous" (so Siezen), and I have a preference for it, but I'm not sure what (probably much younger) new german users would expect.
@HenriMenke well probably a few more, but the official day is the first of october.
@HenriMenke I have been using a patched pgfutil-latex.def (with the new hook code for issue 900 and with the preview patches disabled for 923) now all the time, and saw not issue. That doesn't replace a full test suite, but I'm compiling a quite large variety of documents.
Hmm, this is curious: I have been counting document classes (*.cls) in the TeX Live tree every year about this time of year, since 2014. For the first time, the number of document classes has decreased (from 723 to 659). I wonder why. The number of packages (*.sty) keeps going up.

… a large number of the vanished class files have names beginning with exa.
