12:06 AM
oh so you are a human in a duck shirt? I thought you were a real duck like @PauloCereda.

@DavidCarlisle hahaha yes sir! Paulo is in another level of love

12:34 AM
@DavidCarlisle quack

@PauloCereda Dinner!
Jun 29 '17 at 16:15, by Paulo Cereda
@DavidCarlisle you are not mean :)

@DavidCarlisle you are... oh wait

4 hours later…
4:30 AM
@manooooh Oooh a D(uck)-shirt!
2

5:18 AM
@CarLaTeX ohh yess! I finally decided to show you who is on the other side of the screen. I feel liberated, much more than before. I hope that one day, saving the enormous barriers of distance and languages, we can meet personally :)
@CarLaTeX what do you think about the d(uck)-shirt?
I guess we discuss this before but I cannot remember when and what was the solution: there is a problem between cases and the surrounding symbols. This is a fragment of what I am writing:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[english]{babel}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{amsmath}

\begin{document}

\[\begin{cases}1+4\lambda=5t+4,\\2+\lambda=6t-2,\\5-\lambda=3\end{cases}\equiv\begin{cases}1+4\lambda=5t+4,\\2+2=6t-2,\\\lambda=2\end{cases}\]

\end{document}
As you can see, there is a big space on the left but on the right it is fine. Why is this happening and how can we solve it?
To get a (perfect?) space between two cases I am using \! x5 i.e. \end{cases}\!\!\!\!\!\equiv\begin{cases}, but it's annoying to do it every time I need two cases environments together

5:52 AM
@manooooh These are not cases. If they were, you'd missing & symbols. P.S. Nice shirts!

@manooooh Very nice!

@marmot oh yes... that was the problem. However, what environment would you use instead of cases? P.S. Thank you, it means a lot to me that you like it (it is a single shirt, I have used it multiple times!)
@CarLaTeX <3<3<3

@manooooh Depends on what you want to achieve...

@CarLaTeX I should have made a heart with my hands haha
@marmot the fragment that I showed you :)
@marmot btw I am using comma, just as AMS say :)

@manooooh <3 :)

5:58 AM
@manooooh Yes, but do you want to have the braces always on the left?

@CarLaTeX I have been a bit nervous doing the "session" of photos ... I thought I was going to receive criticism for my appearance
@marmot yup. Uhm, I guess you are thinking about creating a new command (?
@marmot I do not need &, it is just a system of equations

@manooooh Oh no, you're a nice boy

& is an alignment point. How about
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[english]{babel}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{amsmath}

\begin{document}

\[
\left\{
\begin{array}{r@{\,}c@{\,}l}
1+4\lambda&=&5t+4,\\2+\lambda&=&6t-2,\\5-\lambda&=&3
\end{array}\right.
\equiv\left\{
\begin{array}{r@{\,}c@{\,}l}
1+4\lambda&=&5t+4,\\2+2&=&6t-2,\\\lambda&=&2\end{array}\right.
\]
\end{document}
?

@CarLaTeX like the rest, I suppose. But I do not like to show how I am physically, but I proposed the opposite for you, for this beautiful community that almost does not exist on the internet
@marmot ^^^^^^ I would like to keep the original format, but the only thing I want is to "correct" the space that is left over (because I am not using &, but I do not want it)
A manual and inefficient way is adding \!\!\!\!\! to every display nested system of equations
(or six \! lol) i.e.
\[
\begin{cases}
1+4\lambda=5t+4,\\2+\lambda=6t-2,\\5-\lambda=3
\end{cases}
\!\!\!\!\!\!\equiv
\begin{cases}
1+4\lambda=5t+4,\\2+2=6t-2,\\\lambda=2
\end{cases}
\]

@manooooh I do not think cases is made for that.

6:11 AM
@marmot yes you are right. It is not a cases statement but a system of equations. But I want it in a particular way. Do you think that adding 6 \!'s is the (unique) solution?
Hey @JouleV, how are you?? :)

@manooooh It is certainly not a unique solution but if I was you I would not use cases for that.

@manooooh Please post a question instead of asking in chat

@marmot of course... but if you were me you should preserve the format that I am using. So I ask if you can think of a better idea than to add negative space :(

@manooooh I do not know, really.

@CarLaTeX I assumed it was a quick solution. I believe that good ideas come fast

6:15 AM
@manooooh It's always better to post a question on the main site, because it could be useful also for other users in the future

@CarLaTeX my questions are rarely useful for someone, but what you say is totally true. I am a rebel and I must learn to respect
I am looking for similar problems but I can not find anything (they are all about how to align but I want just the opposite), so it seems that I should ask a question

6:34 AM
@manooooh Everything's very fine :) How are you now? You have a wonderful T-shirt (or duck-shirt?)!

@JouleV ohh nice, thanks! I am fine, I am anxious to receive help in a new question that I will soon ask on the site :). Ohhh thank you!! You have a very nice collection!
Lol who was the person who gave +1 to the question created less than 1 minute ago?

7:20 AM
@HenriMenke I have a feeling that the \setupmathematics[stylealternative={calligraphic}] does not seem to work for me with lucida. Do you have lucida? Can you try the following example? I will post to the list if there seems to be a problem.
\setupbodyfont[lucidaot]
\setupmathematics[stylealternative={calligraphic}]
\starttext
\startTEXpage[offset=3bp]
$\mathcal A$
\stopTEXpage
\stoptext
(I would expect the A that can be seen for example in the Corollary on top of page 9 in this document. But maybe I'm doing something wrong?)
@HenriMenke I do not get other stylealternatives to work either (with updated beta), so I send an email to the list and ask about it.

7:46 AM
@mickep I get the same output as you do.

@HenriMenke Good. I sent an email (as you probably saw).

@mickep With TeX Live 2018 I get the correct output.

@HenriMenke Very good!

@mickep Which means that Hans broke it :)

@HenriMenke Hehe, well, I don't want to point at somebody, but I guess you are right. :)

8:20 AM
@mickep Interesting… When I was writing my master thesis, the stylealternative mechanism didn't exist yet, so I used a workaround of adding ss04 to all the font feature definitions. However, not even that workaround is working in beta.
\definefontfeature [math-text]         [math-text]         [ss04=yes]
\definefontfeature [math-script]       [math-script]       [ss04=yes]
\definefontfeature [math-scriptscript] [math-scriptscript] [ss04=yes]
\setupbodyfont[lucidaot]
\starttext
\startTEXpage[offset=3bp]
$\mathcal A$
\stopTEXpage
\stoptext

@HenriMenke Oh, maybe you should add that as a reply to my mail to the list. Or perhaps not necessary, Hans will probably find out by himself quite fast what is going on.

@mickep I'll post it to the list because I will need Lucida myself at some point for my PhD thesis.

@HenriMenke Good (choice of font)! :)

@mickep The bug you found comes as quite a coincidence, because I just answered a question on Lucida on TeX.SX today.
4
A: How to typeset a small black square as a binary operator?

Henri MenkeThis is actually not a square but just the shape of \cdot from the Lucida family used in the picture. \documentclass{article} \usepackage{lucidabr} \begin{document} $f \cdot g$ \end{document} Lucida is a commercial font, you can purchase it from TUG. You could also go ahead and fake the s...

@mickep I wish Lucida had design sizes, though.

@HenriMenke That is funny. My coauthor on this project also noted that the dot is a square, and liked it.

8:29 AM
@DavidCarlisle hyphen penalty seems to do the trick. Thanks for the input

9:14 AM
@manooooh why cases (which is the wrong environment) rather than simply \left\{\begin{aligned}....\end{aligned}\right. ?

9:57 AM
@MarcelKrüger did you see the comment about Iwona?

10:21 AM
@UlrikeFischer Yes. I will upload the necessary fallback later today.

@MarcelKrĂĽger thanks. I have lot do this weekend, so can't really do much, but I would like to upload at least a fix for the letterspace stuff if possible.

1 hour later…
11:44 AM
@Sebastiano nice answer for the square root ;) what did you mean by rudimental fantasy (out-of-curiosity).

12:20 PM
Today I got \textdegree unavailable in T1 for an old document that worked before. Was there any changes recently to that?

12:36 PM
@Skillmon what is the file encoding and the inputenc option?

1:09 PM
@UlrikeFischer font is T1 and inputenc is utf8, but maybe the files which are compiled are not in utf8 (not sure, as those are temporary files produced by Python's matplotlib). I just put a \AtBeginDocument{\def\textdegree{\si{\degree}}} into the files preamble, now it works again.

1:19 PM
@Skillmon well the question is if you really want a \textdegree there. I can force the error message ! LaTeX Error: Command \texteuro unavailable in encoding T1. without any euro ... (I used a „). Better do \def\textdegree{I'M HERE!!!!!!} and check the document.

vlg
1:38 PM
Q: what would make a row of an m column of definite length have a new line or par, yet not push any words or characters to that next line?

@UlrikeFischer it's a plot in planar coordinates, I'm pretty sure I want a degree there :)
@UlrikeFischer and the symbol which was causing the error was 176 (°).

@Skillmon I get no error when I use it.

2:24 PM
Might need to find an alternative to Travis soon :( https://www.reddit.com/r/devops/comments/at3oyq/it_looks_like_ibera_is_gutting_travis_ci_just_a/

I know there are a few good alternatives; it's just annoying to change!

@WillRobertson Oh great!

@JosephWright Yeah. just when I was starting to get comfortable with it :)
I recently discovered you can do nice things like this: https://travis-ci.org/wspr/unicode-math/builds/494486143

Had been meaning to play around with something similar for the l3 repositories but might cautiously wait before spending more time

1 hour later…
3:58 PM
@marmot, did you see this interesting problem?
https://tex.stackexchange.com/q/476137/14757
Maybe you have a solution without clipping since clip could produce green arcs depending if the circle intersects the rectangle. I saw on user guide that there are some functions to decide if the point is in or out some region.

@Sigur Apart from your answer which you unfortunately deleted, there is another answer in which there are two codes, one with clip and one without. (I would never use ifthen there but the built-in ifthenelse with \ifnum.)

@marmot, I deleted mine because I was computing the coordinates for the rectangle in terms of the nodes, not using the fit. Also, when I tried to make it more general, giving the maximal values for x and y in the loops, it was hard to implement.
@marmot, also, the other solution does not work if we add one extra orange col.

4:15 PM
@Sigur You do not need any library, and, what is more important, no ifthen package.
\documentclass[tikz,border=3.14mm]{standalone}
\begin{document}

\begin{tikzpicture}[
vertex/.style={draw, circle, inner sep=0, minimum size=0.12cm}
]
\foreach \x in {0,1,...,6} {
\foreach \y in {0,1,...,7} {
\pgfmathsetmacro{\mycolor}{ifthenelse(\x > 0 && \x < 6 && \y >0 && \y < 6,
"green","blue")}
\node at (\x*0.4,\y*0.4) [vertex, color=\mycolor] {};
}
}
\begin{scope}[local bounding box=BB]
\foreach \x in {0,1,...,3} {

@marmot, let me read it.

@Sigur And when you decide to post something along the lines, please replace \x by \X and \y by \Y because otherwise there may be nice interferences when something using the calc syntax is added to the code.

@marmot, the green circles grid should be 4x4, the last one is outside the rectangle, should be blue.

`\pgfmathsetmacro{\mycolor}{ifthenelse(\x > 0 && \x < 5 && \y >1 && \y < 6,
"green","blue")}`?

@marmot, I think the problem is that the orange nodes are also named from zero.

4:22 PM
@Sigur Why is that a problem?

@marmot, I'm not sure. I was trying to make a solution very free, I mean, only defining \xmaxOrange and \ymaxOrange, all the rest should be computed.
I think that the upper bounds for your macro should be then \xmaxOrange + 1 and the similar for \y

@Sigur Yes, that is no problem if the conditions are well defined.

Maybe +2

4:43 PM
@marmot, now I think I done.
@marmot,
\documentclass[tikz,border=3.14mm]{standalone}
\begin{document}

%\pgfmathtruncatemacro\one{1}

\pgfmathtruncatemacro{\xmaxBlue}{6}
\pgfmathtruncatemacro{\ymaxBlue}{7}

\pgfmathtruncatemacro{\xmaxOrange}{3}
\pgfmathtruncatemacro{\ymaxOrange}{3}

\begin{tikzpicture}[
vertex/.style={draw, circle, inner sep=0, minimum size=0.12cm}
]
\foreach \x in {0,1,...,\xmaxBlue} {
\foreach \y in {0,1,...,\ymaxBlue} {
\pgfmathsetmacro{\mycolor}{ifthenelse(\x > 0 && \x <= \xmaxOrange+1 && \y >1 && \y <= \ymaxOrange+2, "green","blue")}

@Raaja :-) I have translated from Italian language in the English language, peraphs. I'm writing, in this time, without the use of translator. The explanation is: I'm not very expert to create complicate macro (prehistorical method or rudimental fantasy (creativity) :-) but I have used a simple combination of symbols and the space. :-) I hope to undestood me.
@marmot and @Sigur Hi, and my best regards. Good work.

@Sigur Looks good! Please post it. But please replace \x by \X and \y by \Y.

@marmot, OK, I'll give credits to you, of course.

@Sigur No need, really. (However, if the OP of the other answer would give credit to the sources of "his" answers, that would be quite something....)

@marmot, I fixed it. Thanks.

5:20 PM
@WillRobertson oh wow I hadn't seen that..
@WillRobertson perhaps github will end up with an integrated one, like gitlab
@vlg ?

5:40 PM
@Sebastiano, hello. For what?

@Sigur: Qual é o peixe que cai do prédio?

@PauloCereda, deixe-me pensar.
@PauloCereda, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh tum

@Sigur bah :)
@Sigur: por que o jacaré tirou o filho dele da escola?

@PauloCereda, era isso?

@Sigur era. :)

5:45 PM
@PauloCereda, essa do jacaré não faço ideia

@Sigur :) Porque ele réptil. :)

@PauloCereda, putz!!!!

@Sigur @AlanMunn will be proud of these messages. :)

@PauloCereda, pensei que fosse algo do tipo pq só chora lágrimas de crocodilo

@Sigur Podia ser. :)
Q: What's the smilarity beween a crocodile and emacs? A: Neither of them has enough bytes!
@DavidCarlisle ^^

5:50 PM
@PauloCereda, well, I didn't understand this. I have no idea about emacs

@Sigur oh no worries. :)

vlg
6:02 PM
@DavidCarlisle See: imgur.com/sFfSCYv; the comma is the extra character on the second row

@PauloCereda Q: What's the similarity between a crocodile and Vim? A: Once you're caught in their jaws, you can't escape.

@AlanMunn, @PauloCereda, this I got it, since I tried to use Vim... lol

@AlanMunn oh
@AlanMunn "The most efficient way to generate a random string is to put a user in front of a vim session and tell him to quit the editor" :)

@PauloCereda, so I already generated a looooooot of random strings.... lol
but the last one always was Alt+F4

@Sigur I miss the good old times of init 3. :)

6:19 PM
I'm trying to debug some wacky stuff I did. Consider the following two lines:
\usepackage[vskip=10in]{quoting}
\tcolorboxenvironment{quoting}{code={\mbox{}},nobeforeafter,boxrule=2pt,sharp corners,breakable,skin=enhanced,colback=white}

@AlanMunn ^^ :)

Would I be correct to think that the vskip=10in option passed to quoting would be overwritten and ignored by the following line, which (I believe) redefines quoting?

@PauloCereda, I sent Telegram msg to you, just for fun.

@Sigur oh let me check, my phone is a bick wackier these days...

@PauloCereda, don't worry neither rush

6:24 PM
@FaheemMitha if the package quoting defines an environment quoting then the next line would overwrite it. But as always: it is much easier to answer a question with a complete example.

@UlrikeFischer The tcolorboxenvironment line, you mean, right?
And yes, I know complete examples are better.

@PauloCereda B is unrealistically large.

@marmot, @PauloCereda, usually it is empty!!

@Sigur I always thought "things studied" were nonempty but "things understood" was empty.

@vlg what is the question though, it looks as expected to me, you add more characters and it wraps a word on to the next line.

6:36 PM
@marmot, oh, yes, better to say in this way. But for my students, they would say studied

7:25 PM
How to make row sep equals to zero in tabular?

7:46 PM
I was wondering which of the answers here to use. To my question in 2011.
5
Q: Generating dummy text programatically using TeX/LaTeX

Faheem MithaAs part of an attempt to debug another problem, I have a need for a TeX/LaTeX command that generates some dummy text in place. I know of lipsum and blindtext, but they are not what they want. What I have in mind is a command that takes the following arguments: a string (s) and integers (k and n),...

The accepted one, or the one egreg wrote, which apparently didn't work for me at the time.
I got a feeling the LaTeX 3 might be a little more general. Comments?

@AlanMunn You have mail

Also is that \ExplSyntaxOff part still required? I'm not sure what that does.

Today I thought of a very funny way to do a full expansion of macros to only characters, using \expandafter\expandafter\expandafter\@gobble\expandafter\string\csname #1\endcsname (of course this is very fragile, but it is expandable).

@Sigur When I'm in the chat room, I generally say goodbye to everyone. Since you and marmot were working in chat, I greeted you and wished you good work.
Good evening all the users.

8:01 PM
@FaheemMitha still required (it is like \makeatletter but for _ and : instead of @)

@Sebastiano, oh, I see. I supposed you are talking about some work previously done.

@DavidCarlisle plus activating spaces again...

@Skillmon details (not activating them actually)

@DavidCarlisle yes, misleading term, unignoring them sounds better?

@Skillmon either characters or error... \detokenize\expandafter{\expanded{#1}} will be easier (when 2019 starts)
@Sigur \setlength \baselineskip{0pt}` ?

8:05 PM
@DavidCarlisle of course. I just found it funny (and called it \funnyexpand during testing).

@Skillmon you might find something very similar in the next latex release....

@DavidCarlisle Ok. Thank you.

@DavidCarlisle ? Now I'm curious.

@DavidCarlisle, I tried it inside tabular but didn't work.

8:08 PM
@DavidCarlisle, not progress.
@DavidCarlisle, here is a mwe. I want zero space between the rows for the 2x2 grid
\documentclass[12pt]{article}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\usepackage{subfig}
\begin{document}
\begin{figure}[h]\centering
\subfloat[faa]{\label{fig.a}\includegraphics[width=.45\linewidth]{example-image-a}}
\hfill
\subfloat[fbb]{\label{fig.b}\includegraphics[width=.45\linewidth]{example-image-b}} \\
%%
\subfloat[fcc]{\label{fig.c}\includegraphics[width=.45\linewidth]{example-image-c}}
\hfill
\subfloat[fdd]{\label{fig.d}\setlength{\baselineskip}{0pt}

@Sigur oh you'll need to zero the strut as well and lineskip (why use a tabular at all??)

@DavidCarlisle, just to make the 2x2 grid inside the subfloat.
I'm trying to improve this answer of mine
https://tex.stackexchange.com/a/476217/14757

@DavidCarlisle hey David! I do not want to use it because the natural alignment is to the right, instead of left. But it was a good approach, thanks!!

@DavidCarlisle where is \ifincsname from? New addition to the engines? It's not part of TeX nor eTeX.
@DavidCarlisle why does the kernel use \expandafter to escape \if...\else...\fi structures, instead of something like \def\afterfi#1\fi{\fi#1}, which is faster?

8:25 PM
@manooooh put & at the start if each row and it aligns the other way
@Skillmon etex, so been in latex since the 1990's ;;;

@DavidCarlisle :( not mentioned in texdoc etex :(

@Skillmon because I lied, it's from pdftex so been in latex since ...

@DavidCarlisle ohh

@DavidCarlisle oh that worked! Do not you think it's a bit forced to do that?

@Skillmon you can't use afterfi if you don't have control over #1 (it blows up if #1 contains \fi for example, and depending how you use it may limit catcode use
@manooooh no it's using the envionment as intended (rather than using cases as not intended)

8:29 PM
@DavidCarlisle also, I would like to read your opinion about if it is correct for you to add a comma , to separate each equation inside aligned (unless there is a text that continues with the reading or that ends the sentence)

@Skillmon quack
2

@DavidCarlisle grouping; \afterfi{\iftrue true\fi}\fi should grab the correct arguments. And I'm speaking of many kernel constructs, which do have complete control over the contents of #1.

@DavidCarlisle oh, okay. I like you to insist with my mistake, that makes me realize that I am more human :). Would you like to post it as an answer?: tex.stackexchange.com/q/476111/152550 Your solution seems to me more clearer, precise and simple

@manooooh it's not normal to punctuate an aligned display but it is normal to punctuate lists so it depends.... (normally, almost always not, I would say)
@Skillmon but then you have introduced a group.....

@DavidCarlisle and catcodes are frozen for \expandafter\@firstofone as well.

8:31 PM
@DavidCarlisle I think it depends on how you treat a system of equations, right?

@DavidCarlisle sorry if stupid, but: Does that do any harm anywhere?

@Skillmon yes

vlg
@DavidCarlisle there's a \par in the somewhere for some not apparent to me reason. The question is why is there a \newline or \par , or however it's define to be when you have a lot of text in a column of that type, given that nothing goes over to the next row, as shown, if I take a character out, then the height of the row is halved

@Skillmon in the usual case you are executing commans if the true and false branches that you possibly don't want grouped
@vlg sorry you just posted an image with no source and I can't guess what the above comment means

@DavidCarlisle \afterfi{#1}\fi doesn't group the results of #1. It will expand to \fi#1, not to \fi{#1}, because of the rules delimited arguments have.

8:34 PM
@Skillmon stop winning arguments with correct tex details, it spoils my evening.
9

@DavidCarlisle sorry :)

@Skillmon apology accepted:)

@DavidCarlisle ahhaha, David was defeated!!

@manooooh it could happen to anybody.

@Skillmon yes, I see that he is much less wrong

8:36 PM
@manooooh I think he won like a bazillion times against me before this.

vlg
@DavidCarlisle there is no source, it's just the cell of in an m-type column, of certain length, in a row in a longtable; you @'ed me with a single question mark, pardon me if expand upon the previous question without linking explicitly to iit

@Skillmon starting from what I said is a joke, which means nothing, I do not believe it! hahaha

@Skillmon actually the reason why there are so many \expandafter\else in the 2e sources is that 2.09 (like plain) used \if xx \let\next\zzz\else\let\next\yyy\fi\next but the \expandafter\else trick was being discussed "in the ether" at around the time we made the first drafts of 2e, and it was expandable and quicker and generally nicer so we basically switched all the tests to that style in one go.
@vlg of course there is a source, you made that image somehow. But as I say I can not understand your query, it seems unrelated to longtable or m columns or anything else, you have a line of text, you make it longer by adding a character and that causes it to wrap to two lines, surely that is expected?

@DavidCarlisle that seems reasonable. And \def\afterelsefi#1\else#2\fi{\fi#1} is admittedly a bit weird (though I use it sometimes).

9:27 PM
This is a tricky LaTeX3 one to search for: do we have an explanation on this site of how to use the @@ syntax in a L3 package?

@LoopSpace You mean using a macro with @@ in its name? Answer: Don't. L3 uses : and _ instead of @ for macro names.

yo'
@Skillmon No, he means the automated replacement of @@ to the package name by l3doc

@yo' ah, he means using docstrip. That wasn't clear to me.

yo'
@LoopSpace There are only two questions tagged , none of which discusses this. But it need not mean anything as the tag could be missing.

@LoopSpace I think there is a blog entry by @JosephWright about this (not on this site obviously), but I could be mistaken on this one.

yo'
9:34 PM
@egreg thanks for the interesting detail about ~

Sorry, yes I mean using docstrip (or should that be l3docstrip?).

@LoopSpace the latter, as it replaces with __<module>, which is unlikely to work with the older docstrip and the L2e packages using it...

yo'
@Skillmon it really goes by the name l3doc and not l3docstrip

I've found texdev.net/2014/02/02/programming-latex3-a-summary-so-far which looks like a good place to start reading about this.
Hmm, not seeing anything about @@ there ... I'll keep digging.

@LoopSpace I struggled to find this and ended up copying the source of an expl3 module and MWE-ifying it:
% \iffalse meta-comment
%<*driver>
\documentclass{l3doc}
\usepackage{test}
\begin{document}
  \DocInput{test.dtx}
\end{document}
%</driver>
% \fi
% \iffalse
%<*package>
%<@@=test>
% \fi
\cs_new:Npn \@@_test:n #1 { Hello~#1 }
% \iffalse
%</package>
% \fi

9:39 PM
@LoopSpace texdoc expl3 section 3.2.2

@yo' from the sources of my ducksay package: \input l3docstrip.tex.

yo'
@LoopSpace good idea could be to ping @JosephWright :)

@yo' so I did, up there :)

yo'
@Skillmon \documentclass{l3doc}

@yo' is only for the documentation, not for the code replacement of @@ with __<module>.

yo'
9:41 PM
@Skillmon oh yeah, well, it's so closely connected...

@LoopSpace texdoc l3docstrip has a few lines regarding @@.

@Skillmon so expl3 and l3docstrip two whole documents, far too much documentation of this feature:-)

@DavidCarlisle texdoc expl3 has fewer content regarding that, though :)
@yo' and l3doc's documentation isn't shipped with TeXLive, as far as I know, and you'd have to built it on your own.

@yo' After being an AMS-TeX user I had to learn to be careful.
@yo' And all my fancy morphisms $A@>f>>B$ didn't work any longer when amslatex was superseded by amsmath. :-(

10:20 PM
@Skillmon Thanks, I'll take a look.

vlg
I'm having trouble making an mwe, the major packages,commands etc. pertaining to font, tables- the text wraps as one'd expect, so sure enough something else is causing it to now. Unless somewhere, somehow a single space is getting inserted onto the next row, I can't.
It's not that I can't insert/delete characters- it's that I don't understand what's going on. Which is deeply discomforting.

@vlg can you use a picture editor just to highlight what you see as strange, as just looking at the image I can't guess
@vlg from this image ^^ I see nothing strange at all
@vlg oh is the question why the first line is raised?

10:39 PM
@egreg -- Huh? Unless that was the "upgrade" to LaYeX2e from 2.09, I don't see how amsmath was that much different than AMS-LaTeX.

@vlg you mean like this: ?
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{array}
\begin{document}

\begin{tabular}{lm{4.9cm}}

aaa & {x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x } {} \\
aaa & {x x x x x x x x x, x x x x x x x x } {} \\
\end{tabular}
\end{document}

@DavidCarlisle my husband says 57 from 8 overs is a lot!

@UlrikeFischer haven't had time to follow any cricket:-)
@UlrikeFischer we need Psmith to keep us up to date with such news. (@PauloCereda)

@DavidCarlisle we can keep you informed ;-)

@UlrikeFischer only about the 1-day series, best to forget the series of 5-day test matches.

10:50 PM
@Sebastiano huhh I see ;)
@DavidCarlisle imo test cricket is also fun! Did u had a chance to look at the 1st test between Sri Lanka vs South Africa. It was a gem of a match ;)

@DavidCarlisle --> chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/49170301#49170301 <-- would you write a puntuaction sign in a system of equations?

@Raaja in general but it's best to forget series that you lose
@manooooh no

@barbarabeeton The active status of @ was retracted. That was one of the main differences between amslatex and amsmath.

@manooooh You should also ask him on which side of the street he drives be able to appropriately gauge his opinion. ;-)

@marmot German engineers fitted the steering wheel on the right hand side of the car, so i assume they expected that people would drive on the left.

10:59 PM
@DavidCarlisle ok, thank you!!
@marmot LOL

@DavidCarlisle Very compassionate engineers, probably. ;-)

@egreg -- Don't remember that and have lost my access to anywhere I could check. I don't remember that the active status of @ was different. (On the other hand, amsmath was never combined with the document classes in `amslatex' to be best of my recollection; I'm pretty sure they were always separate, but provided as a single package.)

11:17 PM
@DavidCarlisle "the rest is silence"

11:37 PM
2

11:47 PM
@DavidCarlisle true though ;)
