@CarLaTeX @DavidCarlisle I once (in 2009) gave a talk with slides using the Mathematica fonts. In recent distributions of Mathematica, I have not been able to find the font files.
(I cannot say I'm proud of the result, but it was a bit fun, and as far as I know, the only way to have a "typewriter" math font)

@mickep Sorry, I can't help, but I'm sure @egreg can :)

2 hours later…
8:35 AM
@DavidCarlisle no channel broadcasts cricket around here. :(

@PauloCereda /me Quacks sadly

@JosephWright Quack. :(

8:47 AM
I like how they had to explicitly refer to the software with this headline. :)

@PauloCereda Should say 'WINE' ...

@JosephWright I think both spellings are correct...

@JosephWright morning, I guess luatex.def shouldn't wait for any pending update for multiple dots etc?

@DavidCarlisle No: fix asap I think
@DavidCarlisle Git branch ;)

@JosephWright yes well I pushed it to master already:-)

8:54 AM
@DavidCarlisle Cool

@JosephWright er is there a scheme to the tagging in graphics-def or just tag with the last edit date

@DavidCarlisle We've gone for date-based tags, so git tag -a -m "Release 2017-11-23" 2017-11-23 would be my approach

grr test files in graphics-def fail with pointless diffs so build ctan doesn't build I guess I should fix that first:
!  925 strings out of 492998
!  11721 string characters out of 6134540
! 80884 words of memory out of 5000000
! 4960 multiletter control sequences out of 15000+600000

@DavidCarlisle Yes: I've not yet sorted that, but it much the same as \CheckSum: any changes need a new set of .tlg files
@DavidCarlisle I forget exactly why this happens!

9:06 AM
@JosephWright oh the test ends with \END so it's supposed to stop the logging before that I thought, I'll look in a bit, need to do some day job now...
@JosephWright ah, it never gets as far as \END because teh checked in .luatex.tlg says it is supposed to getnerate
! TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [input stack size=5000].
\TYPE #1->\begingroup \long \def \TYPE ##
                                         1{##1}\immediate \write 128{#1}\end...
l. ...\END
If you really absolutely need more capacity,
you can ask a wizard to enlarge me.
Here is how much of LuaTeX's memory you used:
I'll add some guards so all the tests run cleanly on all platforms. later....

@DavidCarlisle Cool: I'll leave it to you

@DavidCarlisle Guards? That sounds so much Haskell. :)

10:10 AM
ooh there's a heated discussion in the FreeBSD mailing list about some fortune cookies...

10:35 AM
@PauloCereda There are lots and lots of FreeBSD mailing lists …

@HaraldHanche-Olsen I get the funniest bits. :)

2 hours later…
12:35 PM
@CarLaTeX Just read the duckboat: simply fantastic!

1 hour later…
1:40 PM
@samcarter Yay!!! As you can see, I've used a lot of tikzducks :):):)

4 hours later…
5:11 PM
@samcarter where can I get a copy?

@AGoldMan Here: tug.org/tugboat/contents.html, but if you're not a TUG member you have to wait a year

@AGoldMan The Duckboat seems to be available without password
@CarLaTeX The more ducks the merrier :)
@CarLaTeX I bookmarked the link to it - could be useful as comment for $U_l$ questions :)

5:26 PM
@samcarter LOL! Indeed, it contains news which could be old one year later!
@samcarter What are $U_I$ questions?

@CarLaTeX The lazy ones :) The font here makes it hard to distinguish l and I :)

@samcarter Ah, you were referring to the van Duck's law, LOL

@CarLaTeX Exactly :) A very useful equation!

@samcarter LOL <3 <3 <3

5:45 PM
@CarLaTeX The comment of my husband: Schick und Doppelquack !!!!

@samcarter so does this tug.org/TUGboat/tb38-3/tb120xii-lat.pdf (complete with typo:-) (@barbarabeeton)

@UlrikeFischer LOL <3 <3 <3

@DavidCarlisle I am really grateful that you put the file on ctan! I first tried to copy it from the pdf, but apparently something went wrong and I would not want to search for the problem in this letter salad :)
@DavidCarlisle btw: why does ctan suggest pdftex xii.tex and not tex?

@DavidCarlisle You wrote that much text?!

@PauloCereda I bet reply to this comment will contain the word "thesis" :)

5:59 PM
@samcarter oi

@PauloCereda In other news: The random duck generator broke lualatex and xelatex - the good news is that Santa's beard is now on ctan

@samcarter ooh

@PauloCereda ooog

6:17 PM
o.O

6:32 PM
@samcarter With luatex the solution is easy, either load luatex85 or use \randomseed, but with xelatex there is imho nothing comparable. @JosephWright asked once that it is added but it didn't happend (yet?).

@UlrikeFischer Thanks for your suggestions! Indeed I changed to \randomseed for luatex. For xelatex I now use \pgfmathsetseed{\time} which is not ideal, but at least it compiles again ...

QUACK
it's been a while. :)

7:14 PM
@samcarter most people use pdf(la)tex rather than (la)tex these days don't they? Also of course that is the old one that's been there for a decade or more, the link should go to xii-latnot xii
@PauloCereda and of course not a single typo

7:26 PM
@DavidCarlisle Your true love should give you a pineapple pizza :):):)

7:37 PM
@UlrikeFischer True: it got bogged down in details of the generator ...

@JosephWright You (or @samcarter) could try a new feature request. The argument that it is needed for good random ducks should convinced all people concerned with typesetting ;-).

8:01 PM
@CarLaTeX I'm here after some time and the first thing I read is pineapple pizza… some things never change

I've got a feeling we had this discussion in this channel before. I'm getting a sense of deja vu.
@Moriambar ^^^

lol
also: the chat does not sound-ping me anymore
yay

1 hour later…
9:24 PM
@DavidCarlisle -- oh, drat. what's the typo? (i'm in quebec, reading mail on my laptop. no reasonable access to much of anything, except things that don't require a password or one that is remembered by laptop. don't remember my tug member password, so can't check that.)

@barbarabeeton it gives the link to ctan as pkg/xii not xii-lat (although they link to each other so not end of the world)

@DavidCarlisle -- oh. rats. maybe we can put in an xref?

@barbarabeeton as noted above the current tugboat doesn't seem to be password protected

@DavidCarlisle -- thanks for that. (but you can attest that i did carefully proofread the output of xii-lat. and i can attest that you did carefully fix anything i complained about.)
@DavidCarlisle -- yes, i see. is this true of the whole issue, or just selected items?

@barbarabeeton I'm sure the translation is so good that people will assume that I had translated it myself:-)
@barbarabeeton I don't know, They were chatting about the duck thing and I just tried mine out of interest so i only know those two are open.

9:33 PM
@DavidCarlisle -- hmmmph. (actually, i know of an alternate translation. but i like this one. probably because i've heard it sung every christmas for about 60 years.)

@barbarabeeton oh no! what happened here:

@barbarabeeton selected items. When I clicked on the complete pdf I was asked for my password. And I now tried the pstricks article and was asked too. I can't test tikzducks and David's article as they are already in my cache.

9:49 PM
@DavidCarlisle -- that's a silly question. i don't think there are (m)any pieces of software other than tex that can even make sense out of that file.
@UlrikeFischer -- thanks. i've already determined that those two are open. (i've forgotten what karl and i discussed.)

@UlrikeFischer all the articles in the latex section are protected

10:04 PM
@barbarabeeton but I have absolute faith in google translate

@DavidCarlisle is that how you found out about pineapple pizza?

10:28 PM
@AGoldMan La pizza hawaiana è sempre presente nei ristoranti italiani.

10:50 PM
@DavidCarlisle I'm waiting for the sx blog post explaining how your usage of google translate is causing the decline of perl
