@StefanKottwitz On goLaTeX, are guests allowed to vote? golatex.de/viewtopic,p,88053.html#88053

@GuilhermeZ.Santos I know the feeling, we know the formation rules, so it's a matter of applying them to a certain context and see if they make sense. :)

8:48 AM
@PauloCereda Apenas o mesmo que copiá-los para google traduzir e ver se o Inglês construído faz sentido.

@DavidCarlisle sounds acceptable. :)

@PauloCereda But what I still cannot figure out is why Spanish speaking people have such a hard time understanding us... What actually pisses me off is that the Argentines come to Floripa, speak Spanish with us (we understand) then reply in Portuguese (expecting them to understand as well), and they stand there with an "Uhh??" face.

@GuilhermeZ.Santos My typical revenge is switch to Portunhol mode and give them a taste of their own poison. :)

On the begining I'd make some effort and speak some Portunhol, but nowadays I make no effort and Keep replying in Portuguese with accent and slangs! Haha

@GuilhermeZ.Santos hahaha you are mean.

9:00 AM
@PauloCereda Portunhol makes their life easier, now the Goal is to make it harder!

@GuilhermeZ.Santos Another good option is to abuse "false friends" (I think that's the term for our falsos cognatos). :)

@PauloCereda Hmmm, you're on to something Paulo... Some pricks can be played using such knowledge... Muahaha

@GuilhermeZ.Santos oooh
@Guilherme: one of my favourites is propina (in Spanish). :)

@PauloCereda Interesting, If I say propina they'll think it's a tip (ponta) and if I say, cota they'll think it's a bribe (propina)... But a prank like that can get someone arrested, that's really mean ahaha. The meanest I've been was to sent them the wrong way when asked for directions. =P

@GuilhermeZ.Santos haha :)
@Guilherme: I once saw a diplomatic crisis with some colleagues in a laboratory when I was at UFSCar. Two of them were Peruvian (a couple) and a Brazilian bloke invited them for a happy hour. He decided to offer aguardente, but he used the popular word (the one Sérgio Reis sings in his song). The girl was scandalized and ran to the bathroom and locked herself in there. It happens the word was a slang for you know what. :)

9:32 AM
@PauloCereda I actually didn't know that! (that pinga meant...) Hahaha, that's a funny Story though

@GuilhermeZ.Santos You know that Michael Jackson eating popcorn meme? That was my reaction. :)

@PauloCereda Hahahaha, I would have done the same!

Oh let me remove, or I will annoy the other chat residents. :)
Done. :)

:33309329 I didn't see that but I suppose it's a GIF, can't you just link it? Then it's possible to close the page afterwards...

@PauloCereda That's the best meme/gif there is, IMHO.. =D

10:17 AM
@GuilhermeZ.Santos No, it's this one: imgur.com/UZm41FD :)

10:38 AM
@PauloCereda Only beacause there are ducks in it! quack! ;P

@GuilhermeZ.Santos Quack! :) The duck is like oh boy oh boy oh boy

11:17 AM
No kidding. I was in 9gag and decided to pause this GIF. Look at the output.

@PauloCereda Seriously? So it's true then, you are the Duckman!

@GuilhermeZ.Santos True story, pal. :)

Q: Which part of this code is changing my text font?

Scot37frI'm still a beginner with Latex. I have the following code in my preamble (phd thesis in memoir class) to change the display of my chapter titles. The idea is creating a box round the chapter number, etc. Anyhow I copied the following code from the University of Bristol thesis template. However i...

12:34 PM
@DavidCarlisle I've at least written a comment

@daleif :-)

12:49 PM
@DavidCarlisle Fill in the Doodle poll ;-)
@DavidCarlisle Can't wait to hear what Frank (or Chris?) think about accessibility!

1:07 PM
@JosephWright done!

It's official, I've become paranoid with document format... I just had to typeset a contract of employment (from the very paper), nothing official so there was no need for formalities. Still, I could not disregard the margins, parskip, parindent, etc. So here I was, with a caliper, measuring the document... :/

:D
@Guilherme: also, to share my pain with a Brazilian bloke: all of our car plates have bad kerning (or keming, as we like to say). :)

1:23 PM
@PauloCereda You think so? I never considered kerning for arbitraty combination of letters... Also, could it not be due to the very fabrication process?

@PauloCereda W h y D  o yo u wor ry ab out k ernin g?

@DavidCarlisle That is annoying... ahaha

@DavidCarlisle :)
@GuilhermeZ.Santos Now you will do. :)

1:39 PM
@PauloCereda Likely. That's probably one of the things you can't unsee... Still, I think it's because of the machinery involved on fabricating the plates. It'd be more expensive to make proper kerning, i think...

Q: My manager said I spend too much time on Stack Exchange, how can I prove its value?

WalleI was recently speaking with my manager, who stated that while my work is satisfactory, they've been noticing I'm spending a lot of time of Stack Exchange. I find Stack Exchange to be very informative and helpful in my work. Particularly considering this Stack Exchange has many users who spend ...

@AlanMunn LOLOLOLOL
@AlanMunn I like the fact this bloke used SE to help him on solving his SE addiction.

2:29 PM
@PauloCereda Yes. I also like the fact that the accepted answer is simply someone quoting somebody else's comment with no other content.

@AlanMunn Yesss, and it got him 520 rep... in one day... o.O

@GuilhermeZ.Santos We're lucky to be in our super-considerate TeX.se bubble.

@AlanMunn Indeed, there's a politeness overload here. Except when it comes to @DavidCarlisle and @egreg. Then the fight is on ahah

@GuilhermeZ.Santos Well stealing ticks is surely as bad as letterspacing.

1 hour later…
3:40 PM
@AlanMunn I don't letter space lower case. :P

4:20 PM
@egreg and steal sheep? :)

@PauloCereda Stealing ticks to @DavidCarlisle is more fun.

@egreg :)

5:13 PM
@egreg you left in the left/right (I used \Big:-)

5:55 PM
This is not a good year for Samsung...

6:34 PM
@DavidCarlisle Just to please @yo'

@egreg the z^{^2 for the same reason I suppose.
