Morning all

@JosephWright Morning
My crystal ball is in the shop for an oil change and a nice polish, can somebody with some spare psychic power help in answering questions? latex-community.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=97039#p97039
@StefanKottwitz You always find nice words. Maybe you can deal with the link above?

9:35 AM
@Johannes_B I don't invest my power and time in questions with such external links. And as he/her seems to know better than you what is needed to be able to answer ....

@UlrikeFischer I know the template. It is not good. I won't invest any time in that.

@Johannes_B don't be silly now, we all know you love the Twenty Seconds CV... ;P

@GuilhermeZ.Santos It loads theclass and then processes the option, if i recall correctly.

@Johannes_B I wouldn't know. I've seen the output once and it's horrible, from the point of view of a professional CV. It's more of a child CV...

@GuilhermeZ.Santos True that.

9:47 AM
@Johannes_B :)

10:44 AM
@JosephWright so you managed to push to main site or did Frank or Jonas do it? :-)

@DavidCarlisle My text by Frank I assume (will check logs)

@JosephWright yep git pulled here, still seems wrong that we are checking in ./_site/news/2016/11/04/eTeX-kernel but whatever works I suppose.

@DavidCarlisle Frank's commit looks simple enough: need to check with him where the gremlins are in updating the site
@DavidCarlisle Ah, hadn't noticed the path

@JosephWright it's also ./_posts/2016-11-04-eTeX-kernel.md you need a local install of jekyll to build it and on cygwin that looked far more trouble than its worth.

@DavidCarlisle Like I said before, I think the setup is somehow not right
@DavidCarlisle I'll drop Frank a line

2 hours later…
12:33 PM
@UlrikeFischer You are a MikTeX user. All i could say would be: Install TeX Live. -> latex-community.org/forum/… Do you have any idea?

12:44 PM
@StefanKottwitz Once the forum update for LC is done, big thanks once more by the way, will gL also get an update? As a guest user, the time is shifted one hour. Though this reallyy isn't tragic.

1:00 PM
@Johannes_B An error in the tpm. Christian wrote on the miktex mailing list "This file cannot be parsed because it contains an error: the character sequence 'Chen & Harrison' should be replaced by 'Chen and Harrison'. I will fix this." Should be sorted out tomorrow.

@UlrikeFischer Oh alright, nice to know. Thank you for the quick response.

1:16 PM
@Johannes_B Bad attitude, but I answered anyway.

@TorbjørnT. Wow, thank you.

Hello friends. I need some help with a big problem I have created now. So I decided to come to chat, because I am not able to explain everything in a question on TEX.SE.
Should I open another room?

@Sigur more likely to find people here:-)

Hello @DavidCarlisle, nice to meet you here.
So, if someone here have free time to discuss with me, I'd be glad to explain my problem. If not, OK, I can try other time. I know that people are busy almost all the time... :)

@Sigur It's a rainy Saturday afternoon here…

1:26 PM
@Sigur just ask anyway, if people are busy (I won't be here that long) they won't answer

@egreg, oh... here in Brazil we have 25 degrees now and sunny.

@egreg typical Italian weather, you should live in sunny England

So... I'll summarize my problem.
I want to make a very minimal portable version of texlive to run pdflatex on a single simple tex file to produce a pdf which will be used within a java program.
I don't know about java, just a little about tex. My student works with java.

@Sigur Several hundred files anyway

Anyway, I installed texlive2016 in portable version in a local folder, lets say /mytexlive.
I choose only some basic schemes and only binaries for linux. OK, it works. I can run ./..../bin/pdflatex and it is ok.
I can compile my file using this local version and the local version has around 46mb. Good. I deleted some binaries related to lua, xetex, etc... I need only pdflatex
So, my problem is that I'd like to load libertine package on my tex file. It works with no error, but the font is not embedded. It is ugly on the pdf.
So I think that some fonts configuration should be done on the local version or copy some other files.
I read about updmap and I tried (OK, I agree I had problems now) but even running it from the local version I think that it looked to my system TL on /usr/local/texlive because it created so big files.
So, now I have those problems. How to embed the font and how to be sure that updmap didn't break my system TL.
...
sorry for long history

1:36 PM
well check that kpsewhich pdftex.map using your portable kpsewhich finds a pdftex.map in your local three and then check that

@Sigur I don't think that such a question can be really resolved in a chat. One need code, log-files, exact pathes etc to analyze the problem.

@UlrikeFischer, I agree. This is why I have a big problem.

$ grep -i libertine `kpsewhich pdftex.map` shows the libertine map lines

If somebody is interested I have tar.gz file of my local version on dropbox.
@DavidCarlisle, kpsewhich returned .texlive2016/texmf-var/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/pdftex.map

@Sigur alternatively I'd consider just using xelatex (or lualatex) and a linux libertine otf file then you don't need map files and tfm fonts and all the other classic tex stuff

1:42 PM
@DavidCarlisle, so I could start from zero and compile only using xelatex. Should be possible to use all basic stuffs from report.cls right?
I will try to run mkjobtexmf again with xelatex
I used it to obtains only the necessary files for my project.
What is strange is that I have a lot of font files (tfm, vf, pfb, and so on) in the local version of texmf-local/fonts/ and even with this the font is not embedded in the pdf.

@Sigur Find libertine.map, add it to your project, and then add \pdfmapfile{=libertine.map} to your document. Does this help?

@UlrikeFischer, let me try. Should I copy the map file from my full version, right? Where should I paste it?
I found it here /usr/local/texlive/2016/texmf-dist/fonts/map/dvips/libertine/libertine.map
I will paste it
@UlrikeFischer, the font is embedded on the pdf. But the problem is that I don't know if your code solved the problem or if the fact that I run updmap before and now it is using my system TL font scheme. Maybe my local TL version is not so local anymore.
I have to try on other computer without TL.
So, thanks to everybody for attention. I always learn when I read from you. Lunch time and the boss (my wife) is waiting. Best wishes.
I am leaving but I'll keep the chat open.

@PauloCereda You still using Fedora?
@PauloCereda Planning ahead in case of failure of laptop: new MacBook Pro lineup a write-off, so need to work out whether to target a Linux system

@JosephWright Yes, Fedora.
@JosephWright So far, my experience with Fedora is the best possible, for development and normal usage. All my laptops and desktops have it.

7:18 PM
@PauloCereda Thanks: useful

@JosephWright I keep a post install guide for the newest release, if it helps: github.com/cereda/f24-postinstall

A: Seasonal Challenge (Contributions from TeXing Dead Welcome)

Gustavo MezzettiOK, it has been a rainy Saturday afternoon, but I must be crazy to lose more than three hours in doing this… The idea is that, since (La)TeX is a language primarily designed to handle text with math, the lack of a “math-flavored” answer (apart from Guido’s “minimalist contribution”) was a gap th...
