There is no way to keep numbering footnotes continuously throughout (i.e. spanning across) chapters (in book or report)? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/36988/…? I'll stick to article then, even if my document will be tremendously long.
@VincentVerheyen -- there is a way to keep the footnote number from being reset at chapter breaks. search for questions containing "removefromreset".

Is it normal that \documentclass{report} and \documentclass{book} can not compile with LaTex, but needs e.g. LuaLaTeX, please?
05:35
@VincentVerheyen No. But some packages may need specific engines. For example, fontspec requires xelatex or lualatex, and some features of the TikZ package (graphdrawing) requires lualatex.

@Davïd Yes, this is it. Thanks :-)
07:47
@DavidCarlisle will mock me again, about the comma ;-)

I'm tying to update the answer to tex.stackexchange.com/questions/242294/…, but I'm stuck. Is there any way to permanently patch \par (I want to execute some code before it)?
\pretocmd is giving up. Saving the definition to a backup with \let and redefining \par to run my code and then run the backup is working... until an enumerate or itemize, which seems to reset the definition.
Oh, it looks like I found it: Run \@setpar to define \par, not \def\par.
09:03
Updated the TeX Live guide in 2016/pretest: I've been officially included in TeX Live. ;-)

@egreg I've to download you then? ;-)
@ChristianHupfer Or dump.
09:21
@egreg Well, what will I get if I use gregorio?
@ChristianHupfer Nicely typeset music!
09:42
@yo': ^^ :D
@egreg And soon, there will be an arara directive for it! :)
It's not even necessary: it runs in the restricted shell escape
09:57
@egreg: I considered an answer with \vspace*{\fill} or \mbox{} but then let the \null so that the OP starts to think about the order and realize that it can matter which command is first ;-)

10:15
@egreg That makes me wonder: when will you start to be able to code music with LaTex?
@VincentVerheyen abc? :)
@UlrikeFischer I agree, but also showing the preferred method seems better.
@UlrikeFischer \null\vfill will give unexpected results if not in vertical mode
Anonymous
@PauloCereda Ow yea? Can you play it straight from a .PDF? Or is it just notation?
@VincentVerheyen I believe the format in itself does not allow such things to be embedded. :)
10:37
@egreg I edited the question (\vfill at the end doesn't work, I tried ...)
@UlrikeFischer Probably because of \columnbreak: blame Frank. ;-)
@egreg Oh no!
@egreg: so, WhatsApp is also very used in Italy? :)
It is a fever in Brazil.
10:52
How much do I like code like this?
\documentclass[12pt]{article}
\textheight 650pt
\textwidth 6in
\voffset -1cm
\hoffset -0.75cm

\input epsf
\def\figin{\epsfcheck\figin}\def\figins{\epsfcheck\figins}
\def\epsfcheck{\ifx\epsfbox\UnDeFiNeD
\message{(NO epsf.tex, FIGURES WILL BE IGNORED)}
\gdef\figin##1{\vskip2in}\gdef\figins##1{\hskip.5in}% blank space instead
\else\message{(FIGURES WILL BE INCLUDED)}%
\gdef\figin##1{##1}\gdef\figins##1{##1}\fi}

\def\figinsert{}
\def\ifig#1#2#3{\xdef#1{fig.~\the\figno}
\writedef{#1\leftbracket fig.\noexpand~\the\figno}%
@PauloCereda Quite
@egreg I have it in my phone due to peer pressure. :)
@PauloCereda I too. But this way I get the photos of my new nephew! ;-)
@egreg yay! :)

@PauloCereda You can embed videos into .PDF, right? So why not music?
@VincentVerheyen You can include rich media including audio. Point is, do you know if it's just an Adobe addition or if it is in the default ISO spec?
The media9 manual makes me believe it is an Adobe feature. :)
11:28
@PauloCereda I am sending this cartoon to my daughter. Thanks for the laugh.

@egreg ooh :)
@DavidCarlisle: I assume Great Britain will celebrate the 90th birthday of HM the Queen Elizabeth II tomorrow?
@ChristianHupfer it's not a public holiday:-(
@DavidCarlisle: Perhaps the day in June will be one then, when the birthday was usually celebrated (or is it different this time?)
@ChristianHupfer don't think that's a holiday either, if we make our rulers work even in their 90s can't expect to be giving commoners days off
13:23
@DavidCarlisle What have rulers ever done for us ;-)
@DavidCarlisle With the day off all faithful subjects of Her Majesty the Queen might go along the Mall and cheer her up.

@ChristianHupfer Measuring the distance between two points and drawing a straight line between them?
Hey all, just a quick question, is there any way we can change the link color of a glossary entry for a specific instance? Like usually if its blue (\gls{entry}), but you want to just once make it green instead (\gls[green]{entry})?
If I should ask it as a formal question instead on the forums let me know, I just thought maybe someone quickly knew lol
@Alborz You can try {\hypersetup{linkcolor=green} glossary thingie } so the change is trapped within the braces. untested of course.
18:49
Good idea, thanks @Johannes_B! Knew there had to be a simple way lol
@egreg -- and quite "timely" too, i believe.

19:51
Are there any statistics on the chatroom traffic, especially concerning newcomers? I wonder if the @Paulo 's campaign have effect...
@Johannes_B I think you did not catch the real content of my line :-P
@ChristianHupfer that is what you are saying.
20:10
@yo' Maybe the room owners have additional info.
@Johannes_B Say no more @PauloCereda ;-)
@ChristianHupfer nudge nudge wink wink you know what I mean you know what I mean
yo'
yo'
@PauloCereda Let's wait for the room owner to clean all the bugs in luatex, then we can ask him :)
@yo' You do not really believe that an ad using my portrait photograph will lure anybody to this place, even if @PauloCereda made the ad? ;-)
@yo' ooh bugs
@ChristianHupfer of course! We know at least one newcomer clicked in the pink ad.

20:12
@ChristianHupfer when I see your photo there, I immediately look for some change
yo'
yo'
@ChristianHupfer (I hope you know I wasn't serious!)
@PauloCereda the ads have altogether about 13 clicks a day, which is an interesting number :)
@yo' I don't understand humour -- I am to nerdy for this /sob ;-)
yo'
yo'
@ChristianHupfer well, you're German after all....
@yo' I am Black Forester in the first, then Baden-Württemberger, then German ;-)

@PauloCereda Like sport?
@JosephWright Good evening!
Where is the \cite command defined? If biblatex is used? Is there a possibility to see the active macro definition in tex code?
@PauloCereda Erik's written a sketch ;-)
@ChristianHupfer Are you into photography?
20:18
@Kurt Usually in latex.ltx, but certainly redefined (a lot)
@Kurt \show\cite
@PauloCereda How are you today?
@JosephWright @Christian Thanks!
biblatex updates going well: expect news soon :-)
@PauloCereda :D
@JosephWright In a hurry! :) You?
20:25
@yo' according to the travis CI he's too busy breaking other stuff at present.

@PauloCereda: ;-)
@ChristianHupfer ooooooooooooooooooh
@ChristianHupfer -- except that that's not a duck ... more like a plover or sandpiper.
@barbarabeeton There's no duck available, unfortunately
@ChristianHupfer -- where are you looking? (i'm on a birdwatching holiday this week. also alligators.)
20:37
@barbarabeeton I almost run over a couple of ducks with my car some days ago, but I could prevent it @PauloCereda

21:00
@ChristianHupfer Number 2 there looks much more like a duck :)
@ChristianHupfer You better. :)
@yo' Number 2 is a cat ;-)
yo'
yo'
@ChristianHupfer well, yes, that's what I meant.
@yo' Apparently Czech ducks look different compared to ducks from the rest of the world then ;-)
Goodness, the ad was right. My first time here, through this ad
Do you guys talk about ducks 100% of the time?

21:12
@EmilioPisanty Hi! Yes. :)
yo'
yo'
@EmilioPisanty ducks, cricket and bugs in lualatex make it
@EmilioPisanty And Star Wars,and Star Trek -- so the real things, not this unimportant TeX stuff ;-)
Fair enough
Can't stop to chat, though, I'm afraid.
Have a duck one!
