Any users of the shorthand concept in biblatex about?

Any ideas on creating a simple title page for a mathematics assignment?
no special requirements, just want something that is simple but has a bit of a fancy flair to it to make it stand out among others

@Johannes_B Thank's a lot
Hello, a small doubt: wouldn't it be useful to have an expandable macro to check if the next token is { or a space? It seems simple, not difficult to program and I think useful, but I'm surprised (may be this is not the exact word) it hasn't been added to eTeX.

Dumb question: How do I get my bib style to be {alpha}?
user147690
I have used \bibliographystyle{Alpha}
user147690
And I am using: \begin{thebibliography}{9}.... \end{thebibliography}
user147690
But it doesn't seem any different
11:58
@AlexClark If you have a manual bibliography then \bibliographystyle does nothing
user147690
@JosephWright I have just installed jabref
@AlexClark No directly relevant :-) The \bibliographystyle only comes into effect if you are using BibTeX
user147690
Oh I meant I gave up on the previous method haha
user147690
Just trying to get my \cite{blah} to work now
user147690
Currently it is just creating [?] :P

Q: Question mark instead of citation number

user16747I've browsed the forums and found a number of posts that have addressed this issue, but none of the solutions seem to work for me. I have the following script that I just copied from the bibtex home page to get familiar with it. Instead of the citation number I get a question mark. I compile usin...

user147690
Fixed. I had bibtopic and it was conflicting or something I guess

If my author was Alexander P Clark, would I have Author = {Clark, Alexander P}?
user147690
Or something else
14:55
@AlexClark Yes, that's it. But with a period: Clark, Alexander P.; the style will determine whether keeping it or not.
user147690
Thanks
15:16
@Kurt Never mind -- @DavidCarlisle will mock you each time if you have an asymmetric rep count palindrome

Q: If there are 74 heads and 196 legs, how many horses and humans are there?

PrateekI was going through some problems then I arrived at this question which I couldn't solve. Does anyone known the answer for this question? One day, a person went to a horse racing area. Instead of counting the number of humans and horses, he counted 74 heads and 196 legs. How many humans and h...

Hello
I want to write the following in latex:
@Evinda \vee (in math mode) or \lor that's a synonym.
@egreg I want to wrote it over a fraction
@Evinda Can you explain?
@egreg This symbol of f(x) is f(-x). And I want to write for example f(x) and over f(x) the symbol.
@Evinda Are you perhaps looking at \check?
16:50
Yes , I have tried this. But I don't now how to make it bigger @egreg
2
Q: Is there a \widecheck like \widehat?

guangleiI read that we can get the function of "widecheck" by importing the \widecheck command from the mathabx (Is there a way to do an "upside down" \widehat?), but I do not want to do that since I do not want to change the font style. Can we define \widecheck by ourselves?

@egreg \reallywidehat{\widehat{{\frac{\widehat{f}}{|x|^2+1}}}}
@egreg It is an invalid equation
\widecheck{\widehat{{\frac{\widehat{f}}{|x|^2+1}}}} This too
@egreg
@Evinda Sorry, I must go and catch a bus. I'll look into it while on the train.
Ok @egreg
17:33
@barbarabeeton @DavidCarlisle @JosephWright @egreg @all I started reading Ulysses a few years ago and i remember a delivery of food (or something else) and the calculation of the final sum to pay using shilling and pence. Searching the ebook isn't very fruitful. Can someone hand me some keywords to find that section again; or at least tell me that my memory is playng tricks on me?
@Evinda If I try the code in the answer I get the same exact result as the picture.
You mean that it works? @egreg
18:09
@Evinda Yes
Aha ok.. Maybe it doesn't work at me, because I don't use a tool... @egreg
19:15
@Evinda a tool??
@Johannes_B no idea, 33 instances of shilling here though:-) books.google.co.uk/…
19:31
@DavidCarlisle I ust wanted to write it in the mathsforum
@Evinda oh so not using tex at all?
@DavidCarlisle That's why I was looking for a command
@Evinda yes but in mathjax you can only use the syntax provided, in general you can't use packages or tex commands to build up symbols as you can in tex
@DavidCarlisle Too many :-)
Ok, no problem... Thanks for your answer :) @DavidCarlisle

@Mico The link chosen as "website" on your profile (tex.stackexchange.com/users/5001/mico) is not working.
user147690
@VincentVerheyen That's because it links to editing his own profile. Maybe he is using it as a shortcut :P.

Holy darn, I have to wait 5 hours to post another question (only 6 questions per 24 hours allowed) ... And I already prepared it with proper MWE. Bummer!
