11:38 AM
@DavidCarlisle oh no

@DavidCarlisle Yummy!

@egreg oh no

@PauloCereda Do you use horseradish?

I know it, but I don't recall using it on food.

12:06 PM
Hi, there is an update for https://www.ctan.org/pkg/aastex?lang=de on http://journals.aas.org/authors/aastex.html#_download
What is the procedure to inform the maintainer about the update so that it can get on CTAN?

@JonasStein They have to sent it to CTAN

ah, ok

12:57 PM
Doesn't the Stix Two Math font contain bold italic letters? I thought I could select them with \unimathsetup{bold-style=ISO}, but that doesn't seem to work.
Oh, wait … \symbfit saves the day.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen I was just about to upload an image with bold italic stix two :)

@mickep Well, sorry to bother you needlessly. It's not the first time I found the solution just moments after giving up and asking. Magic!

@HaraldHanche-Olsen I know very well that feeling. But never mind, I now learned that to get bold math in ConTeXt one could say \mb.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen ISO such an irritating name for that option:( It's not as if ISO as an organisation specify any style for mathematics. (Not your fault I realise, but still....)

@DavidCarlisle ooh

1:10 PM
\symb-fit

“There are only two hard things in Computer Science: cache invalidation and naming things.” – Phil Karlton

@HaraldHanche-Olsen in that case it shouldn't take long to write a thesis in computer science (thinking of @PauloCereda no one in particular)

@DavidCarlisle Unless, of course, the allgeged thesis is on one of the two hard problems.

@DavidCarlisle oh no

@HaraldHanche-Olsen hmm He might have us on "naming things"

@PauloCereda a dinosaur?? It probably work well with a duck as well...

@mickep Agreed. :)

@mickep Ducks are, after all, descended from dinosaurs.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen ooh a ducksaur

@HaraldHanche-Olsen Hehe, good point. With approximately 200 students I would prefer not to get mails with pictures from all of them. But I like the idea.

I wrote ducksaur and Google suggested duck sauce. Google is mean.
@DavidCarlisle ^^

3:48 PM
@PauloCereda Something for @samcarter to add...

@mickep ooh
@mickep OOH I HAVE AN IDEA, HOLD ON

@mickep, @samcarter and @JosephWright ^^ :D
I hope the reference isn't lost. :)

@PauloCereda Grrgh, dine-o-saur

@JosephWright woo

@mickep Instead of sending a picture to you, you could tell them to add a new entry to tex.stackexchange.com/q/387047/36296

@PauloCereda Nice! @samcarter Oh, I'm a duck newbie...

@PauloCereda I'm afraid, but this looks like the dinosaur is going to eat the duck. Poor duck!

4:19 PM
@samcarter nah, it's Mr. Dinosaur! <3
@samcarter (it's from the Peppa Pig cartoon)

@PauloCereda Ah, did not know this cartoon :)

@samcarter oh my
@JosephWright ^^

@PauloCereda Oooh Peppa Pig's brother!

@CarLaTeX YES

@PauloCereda 👍

@PauloCereda Nice! You should add a link to this from the duck pond!

@samcarter be my guest. :)

4:47 PM
@PauloCereda I was watching Peppa pig today... 😬

@mickep ooh

@samcarter I agree, @PauloCereda, please, add it to the duck pond!

@CarLaTeX please add it for me. :)
The Apple keynote is starting!

@PauloCereda I'll do it tonight, now I am on the shaky bus!

@CarLaTeX ooh shaky bus

5:08 PM
<someone> But, we dont have a shake-bus-duck, do we??

@mickep No, we don't, you could add it to the duck pond!

@mickep ooh

@CarLaTeX Oh, I forgot that this duck thing is so serious... :)

@mickep ;)

5:43 PM
So far: iWatch series 3, Apple TV 4K.

6:00 PM
iPhone 8 announced.

@PauloCereda Will it have TeXLive 2017?

@mickep I don't think so. :)

@PauloCereda What a surprise
@mickep If they allow GPL software

I am curious about the rumours of an iPhone X to be announced today.

@PauloCereda And it turned out that X=8?

6:03 PM
@mickep So far, it seems so, :)
@mickep: in good news, I might have an interesting project to unveil in TUG 2018. :)

@PauloCereda What a cliff hanger! :)

@mickep dramatic song

@PauloCereda Do you want to give a hint about it?

@mickep TeX editing. :)

@PauloCereda emacs!

6:07 PM
@DavidCarlisle boo

@PauloCereda Thesis procrastination? :)

@mickep probably :)

@PauloCereda It is not clear to me what the project will include...

@mickep I have no idea too top secret so far. :)

@PauloCereda Hehehe, sound good! There is plenty of time.

6:13 PM
@mickep on a more serious note, I want two things at least: full L3 support and a geeky mode. :) Not sure if I will succeed, but let's see what the future brings. :)

@PauloCereda That sounds useful. I have not looked at L3 at all, so I don't know what has to be done. Is L3 frozen so that it is doable?

@mickep /pokes @JosephWright

@PauloCereda :D

iOS 11: September 15.
@mickep :D
OH NO, THE "ONE MORE THING"...
iPhone X!

@samcarter oooh <3
@samcarter for a moment, I had to adjust my glasses. :)

@PauloCereda or clean the screen :)

@samcarter Haha, the best duck so far :)

@samcarter I am paranoid about my screens, so I clean all my monitors and devices almost three times a week. But I always forget to clean my glasses!
4

@samcarter Oh my! <3

6:34 PM
@PauloCereda Wow! Your screens are really well cared for - if mine are lucky, they get clean three times a year (but I don't use anything with touch screen)
@mickep <3

@samcarter :)

6:58 PM
@PauloCereda seems like it'll cost over £1000 and won't even run ms paint :-(

@DavidCarlisle Yep

7:12 PM
@DavidCarlisle Got the new 'LaTeX' input mode in Office365
@mickep expl3 is 'broadly' stable: we have a clear pathway to make/notify of changes that people need to know about

Hi, what is the link between the yellow duck and LaTeX? There is an easteregg duck in TeXstudio too. Is there a special story, or joke?

@JonasStein I think @PauloCereda should answer :)

@JonasStein I asked essentially the same question some time ago. Some information is given in the answers below.

There is reads "Paulo: I like araras too" Is that the reason why a tex build tool is called arara?

7:31 PM
@JonasStein Note that both @PauloCereda and I are ducks!
Quack

;-)

@DavidCarlisle Crickey!

7:48 PM
@PauloCereda Oh I can't: "Body is limited to 30000 characters..."

8:34 PM
@JosephWright shock at price or that it can't run ms paint?
@JonasStein it is Paulo's tool....

Ah that explains it

@egreg Should we talk about cricket tonight?

@CarLaTeX Oh no! Cricket, the most incomprehensible game known to mankind! I once had the misfortune of visiting the UK during a major cricket match. Ended up drinking all by myself at the pub, because I had no idea what everybody else were talking about. And that game lasted for days.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen I don't know anything about cricket, but tonight this has happened: lastampa.it/2017/09/12/sport/calcio/qui-juve/… (egreg is a Juve fan)

@CarLaTeX Looks like football to me. That's not incomprehensible, just uninteresting.

8:47 PM
@HaraldHanche-Olsen For me, too! But not for egreg :)

For a while, I had some enjoyment from watching American “football” and trying to guess the rules. But then people started explaining them to me, which ruined it.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen I'm not interested in sports, in general...

@HaraldHanche-Olsen 5 days usually

@DavidCarlisle Yeah, sounds about right. I was there for a week. And had a feeling this particular game had been going on for a while, and was still going when I mercifully returned to civilization.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen the thing about cricket is the rules are really simple (you whack the ball with the bat and then run as many lengths as you can before the other side get the ball back) but it's made to appear mysterious by having its own private language to describe almost all aspects of the game, to make sure only people from cricket playing nations have any idea what is happening.

8:59 PM
@DavidCarlisle Oh. A bit like mathematics, then?

@HaraldHanche-Olsen yes except some bits of mathematics really are complicated:-)

@DavidCarlisle Yeah, tell me about it. I am running the Norwegian mathematics competition for high school students, and having a hell of a time solving some of the problems we expect them to solve.
@DavidCarlisle Speaking of which, I am teaching my PDE class ridiculously early tomorrow morning. Gotta get to bed.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen good night

@DavidCarlisle good night

9:18 PM
@CarLaTeX Umph. :-)

Hello @egreg and @DavidCarlisle both of you still look the same after so many years, LOL.

@Jasper @egreg has always been old

9:38 PM
@Jasper Every day trying to fix @DavidCarlisle's mishaps.

10:00 PM
@egreg like trying to find @PauloCereda's thesis
