@MarekKaski glyphs come from a font so that seems to be the same thing? You are probably best to ask a question on site with an example input and what you want the output to be (the answer is probably yes but I can't guess..)

@MarekKaski so if I look at a random example say omniglot.com/conscripts/areilcirith.php then it looks like you just need a font not any lua at all, as you just need a font with those ligatures specified and suitable glyphs instead of latin letter glyphs

@MarekKaski but that is translation of a character string to character string so happening at a different level to ligatures and glyphs, if you want that you just need to apply text replacement 9lua patterns which are like simplified regular expressions)
