Hi guys, Some one just called me drunk :(
@HarishKumar :-) That would only be ok if you are.
@Johannes_B But I never drink alcohol :( But I am not upset :)
@HarishKumar Some people can't stand others to be in a good mood.
@Johannes_B Hehe, That is true. The Op asks a very badly phrased question. I try to answer, he downvotes me and further says that I don't know english or I am drunk or I am slow. Punch line is as he said - "You are just wasting my time"! :)
Who is wasting time? is the real question. I think I should mind my day time business for today (at least) :)
09:28
@HarishKumar Happened to all of us i think. I a questioner is setting me in a real bad mood, i make him aware, that he may choose between my (or our) help. Or personal support for serious money.
@HarishKumar But it's not worth it, i think. Relax and keep calm is the best way to stay healthy.
@Johannes_B You are right. I am still here hehe :)
Hi @Harish! Don't get upset, the OP is like a cloud: when he disappears, it's a brighter day. :)
@HarishKumar Some people tend to think that a magic spell such as tcolorbox would solve all their problems; ignoring the fact that line breaking is completely different from page breaking. You helped that user by pointing to a working solution to a problem and received a “peculiar thank you”. :( Just ignore.

As Mark Twain put it, “Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.”
@egreg: ooh Gonzalo is now using L3 too! :)
@egreg So very true.
@PauloCereda Thanks, I am not upset. There isn't any cloud here in Pondicherry ;)
09:41
@HarishKumar Did this guy downvote you?
@egreg Thank you for the nice words and the quote. Really good. I have already come out of it. :)
@PauloCereda Yes, but that is OK. It happens. :)
@Utkarsh Yay, Your name sounds Indian. Hi.
@PauloCereda Yay! Yay!
09:47
@egreg Yay!
@David Yay!
@Christoph Yay!
@PauloCereda But why? Any good news?
@HarishKumar I have absolutely no idea. :) I'm just going with the flow. :)
@PauloCereda hehe! That is a good practice. :)
@PauloCereda I just had the lunch and enjoying my free time (which will be for another half an hour). How about you?
@HarishKumar hello :)
@HarishKumar I'm writing a paper for 3 days nonstop. :P
09:52
@HarishKumar yes, i'm indian ;P
and i think you too
@HarishKumar By the way, is there a meaning in the name “Harish“? My name comes from German and it means “home ruler”. Several kings and emperors had the same name, actually one of them is a saint (he's buried in one of the most beautiful churches I know, it's in Bamberg).
@egreg harish is the name of the indian God, lord Krishna and Lord Shiva
@Utkarsh Wow, not an easy name to have, then. :)
@egreg lol
My name probably relates to ducks. :)
10:07
@Utkarsh Hi You are right. I am from Pondicherry (basically from Mangalore)
@PauloCereda Yay! :)
@PauloCereda Really!. But three days is too less. I have seen people doing it for months ;)
@egreg Hari=Lord Vishnu and Eesha=Lord Shiva. So I am equivalent to two gods ;)
BTW, Krishna and Vishnu are equivalent, names of same god.
@egreg But I have it you know, that makes me a tough guy ;)
ooh Paulo means \small!
:)
@PauloCereda Quack!
@HarishKumar Yay!
@egreg: there's a lot of isomorphisms in India, apparently. :)
10:12
@egreg So you are a ruler. Good name and more suitable one for you :)
@PauloCereda What! Is that true or you are joking? Paulo=\small?
@HarishKumar Apparently, it's true. Probably Latin, I guess. :)
\let\paulo\small
@PauloCereda \let\paulo\HUGE^{\infty}
@HarishKumar o.O
No way. :)
@PauloCereda Yes, the root is the same as that of paucus (few)
@egreg Oh! :)
10:22
@PauloCereda You surely know that the Apostle Paul was originally named Saul (like the king).
@egreg Yes, that one I know. :)
More expl3 registrations incoming :-)
I look forward to having @egreg's book to point at for tips
@PauloCereda A possible explanation is that he wanted to be considered “the least of the Apostles” (in Greek, Παῦλος means the same as in Latin).
@egreg Ah!
@JosephWright No peeking!
:)
@egreg: Joseph wants to peek your book! Don't let him!
ooh isn't that magician that tells the secrets?
I'm scared!
hello, i want to write something like this but i dont know how
10:37
@egreg: uh-oh, fncychap!
@PauloCereda Shhhh.
@Vrouvrou Hi, welcome to the jungle, we have fun and games! the TeX chatroom!
thank you ^_^
10:41
Yay!!
can you help me ?
\documentclass{book}

\usepackage[Rejne]{fncychap}

\begin{document}

\chapter{Hello world}

Hello world.

\end{document}
how?
@Vrouvrou: ^^
Now I need to do another item from my checklist: in ginocchio sui ceci :)
@egreg: ^^
:)
@PauloCereda You said it.
10:44
@egreg :)
@PauloCereda Next time you'll reveal you're writing a paper with the-program-I-don't-mention-the-name-of.
@PauloCereda thank you
@PauloCereda \peek_meaning:NTF \__egreg_book: :-)
@egreg That won't happen, I swear. :)
@JosephWright ooh sneaky!
:)
@egreg But alas I have it installed in my Mac.

2 hours later…
12:56
Why does this not work if I remove the \x from the loop code? What can I do to 'use' the \x without outputting it?
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{pgffor}
\begin{document}
\begin{enumerate}
\foreach \x in {1,...,10}{\item \x}
\end{enumerate}
\end{document}
@AlanMunn It's the list that's the issue
@AlanMunn You need to have something after the \item: try just \foreach \x in {1,...,10}{\item a} for example
@AlanMunn Will track down why :-)
@JosephWright Hmm. Ok. But if I just make a list with a bunch of \item\item\item that works. (Which is exactly what I want to do, in fact.)
@AlanMunn \item\leavevmode
@tohecz Aha! Thanks, that does the trick.
@AlanMunn yw
13:19
@JosephWright: get Rayman Legends. :)
@PauloCereda Will look today (have a little spare cash)
@JosephWright Yay!
13:37
Hi, can this question tex.stackexchange.com/questions/162625/… be migrated back to stackoverflow?
@Christoph Not at the moment, it seems (just tried)
@JosephWright Ok, thanks. Do you know if its possible in principle? Or can't a question be "unmigrated"?
@Christoph Will have to ask
This song is my new ringtone.

Q: \thanks in IEEEtran adds an extra page

SalmanWhen I use "\thanks" in IEEEtran, an extra page including a "1" at the top left corner appears before the first page. Here is a MWE: \documentclass[english]{IEEEtran} \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} \usepackage[latin9]{inputenc} \usepackage{babel} \begin{document} \title{Title Title Title Title Title} ...

Is "Don't thank anybody then." a valid answer? :)
14:13
@PauloCereda well, this is one of the cases, when RTFM is the valid answer
Who has Microsoft Word 2013 installed? I need your help to convert microsoft.com/en-pk/download/details.aspx?id=7029 to PDF such that I can view in my machine without Word. :-)
@TheLastError well, would google docs do? or any online convertors?
@tohecz I have no google doc :-)
@tohecz: I think it will help me freepdfconvert.com.
@TheLastError yeah, one of these
@tohecz :P
14:45
Hi, I tried to vote to migrate the question tex.stackexchange.com/questions/162213/… to stackoverflow, but that site doesn't appear as option, only meta.TX. Why is it sometimes possible to suggest a site for migration and sometimes not?
@Christoph there's no way to mark it for migration. Just cast an Off-Topic vote and write in the comments that it should be migrated.
@Christoph Flag it: one of the reasons is "It needs moderators' attention"
Ok, did it.
15:14
@egreg I hope he doesn't say yes to your question: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/162733/…
@Johannes_B I too.
interesting Q and good case for LaTeX

Q: producing embossed tactile graphics with Tikz for blind student

user47010I work at disability services at a university and recently started working with a completely blind student in upper level computer theory, automaton, and programming classes. I learned Latex about 3-4 weeks ago per the student's request so that the student could get the notes in that form and co...

15:33
@texenthusiast I was confused as I looked up tiger embosser and it seemed to say it was a Braille printer which wasn't what I expected for showing the output graphics?
@DavidCarlisle it's capable of printing reliefs as well
15:54
well, not reallz reliefs, just "up and black" or "down and white"
hi folks, how can I know which badge should I have to pursue based on my current progress?
@TheLastError what do you mean? like in which of them you're close to getting them?
@TheLastError You could open with .doc with Libreoffice or OpenOffice
@tohecz: In other words, which badges should I seriously consider first because they are near the limit to be gold?
I cannot see the statistic of my progress which ones are converging to gold.
Do you understand what I meant?
@texenthusiast conversion problem has been solved. :-)
@TheLastError Yes How close I am towards nearest gold or silver badge progress bar statistic is missing I think, but you may be see tex.stackexchange.com/help/badges
16:03
@TheLastError ah, well, here, you have the statistics of answer upvotes and questions and answers posted (together). That gives a rough idea (the problem is that you can't get to know how many of them are answers, the vote coutns are correct:
@tohecz Which badge are close to be a gold, silver or etc.
@TheLastError Look at this one from my profile
This means I have 2000+ votes on answers to questions tagged and I have 190 answers in that tag. The gold badge is assigned with 200 answers and at least 1000 upvotes.
@egreg OK. Understood. Thank you.
@TheLastError For the silver badge, 80 answers and 400 votes.
@egreg I believe it means you have 190 posts (Q+A), it's only that you happen to kame the numbers coincide :)
16:09
@tohecz Really? Well, I should post questions in that tag, then. No, I won't.
Does a dirty trick work? I mean if I want to get a gold in PSTricks (for example) quickly, I add pstricks tag for each question in which I got voted up.
@TheLastError Please don't, unless the question is actually about PSTricks and the tag is missing.
@TorbjørnT. :-)
@TheLastError you can do that, but 1) you don't quite have the rep just now :p and 2) remember that for such tweaks, mods can slap you on your hands ;)
@tohecz :-)
But I am not sure whether editing tag will work. We should me a try I think. :-)
It is time to go.. :-)
16:24
Guys, if I use $G : Q_R \mapsto P$ instead of $G \colon Q_R \mapsto P$ I get a space before :. Which one do you prefer?
@egreg I see the same as @egreg that the number counts answers (so is a reliable badge indicator)
@DavidCarlisle Try asking a question and we'll see.
@PauloCereda \colon
@egreg how?
@egreg Grazie.
@DavidCarlisle I'm told that somewhere there's a button to click. Never found it. You're more expert in HTML than I.
16:36
@TheLastError This show both the correct number of non-CW answers and the correct number of upvotes: data.stackexchange.com/tex/query/171386/…
16:56
@tohecz I see I answer too few questions to get any gold badges for a long time
@JosephWright well, I had to fork a query, since the badges are really about answers, and all the queries ingore that
@JosephWright lots of votes, not enough posts :p
@tohecz Yes: I have a pretty good answer-to-vote ratio
@JosephWright quite :) and 55% acceptance rate!
@JosephWright get enough votes on the answers and you get gold anyway (just make sure your answers don't contain any TeX, that puts people off)
@DavidCarlisle :-)
17:37
This is a good question.

Q: Suggest a "nice" font family for my basic LaTeX template (text and math)

ChristopheMy goal is to choose a "nice" font family (serif, sans serif, monospace, and "math") for my basic LaTeX template. I know the default setting (Computer Modern's family) is a very good choice. However, I want something a bit less "by default", a bit less "used by everyone else"... Also, I would li...

Has anyone else here experimented with different fonts?
@DavidCarlisle Drat, beat me to it!
@JosephWright I had a feeling I was racing you or egreg:-)
@DavidCarlisle :-)
@DavidCarlisle Every DTX question we get seems to reference my blog :-)
@JosephWright presumably your blog should have been clearer so people didn't need to ask:-)
@DavidCarlisle Presumably
17:46
@JosephWright You should give an l3doc answer and try to steal the tick
18:32
@DavidCarlisle Englishmen don't fight, do they? I thought you guys discuss issues with tea.
- Listen, my good fellow: your attempt to steal my green tick is an event of nightmarish proportions and whatnot.
- Quite.
Man I wish I were an Englishman.
@PauloCereda And drive on the wrong side of the road?
19:04
@egreg That would be awesome. :)
Being a leftie myself, I tend to naturally go to the left. :P
19:33
@PauloCereda ping
19:46
@egreg as I think I mentioned before, we don't drive on the wrong side.
@tohecz pong. :)
@PauloCereda sorry, I was tidying up, and every time I do that my internet connection gets unstable (the French tel. plugs are simply stupid)
@tohecz Nah don't worry. :) Sorry for my absence, I was away for a brief moment. :)
(that good moment when both parties feel sorry :) )
20:53
PGF 3.0 has showed up on CTAN I see.
21:19
@TorbjørnT. Anyone using it yet?
@FaheemMitha There's been questions on the site already, so some people have been using it for a while.
21:34
@TorbjørnT. Ok.
22:32
@egreg What are you going to do with it?
@Werner I'll cash it, of course.
@egreg tell me you're joking :)
@tohecz There was a column on TUGboat, I'm trying to find it
22:48
@egreg I don't think a bank teller would know what to do with 1 hexadecimal dollars.
