12:00 AM
@PauloCereda You blame me, since I wasn't around to help with the proofreading. :)

@AlanMunn Ah! :)

12:43 AM
@AlanMunn and @PauloCereda That's great. Thanks for the info! :-)

@PauloCereda I don't use latex either. Does anyone use it?

1 hour later…
2:14 AM
@DavidCarlisle Some guys in the dark corner of the bar. :)

6 hours later…

7:55 AM
How can I write something under $\vdash$? $\vdash_{33}$ is not under enough.

@hhh \underset{33}{\vdash} perhaps. Requires amsmath.

hhh
@TorbjørnT. precisely, thank you!

8:35 AM
How can I make g and g to the same level (line 2 and line 3)?
Solved it by using just formula number without the word "formula".

A: Separate long math text under sum symbol into different lines?

Karl Ove HufthammerYou can use the \substack command from the \amsmath package, like this: \begin{equation} d(\vec{x},\vec{y}) = \sum_{\substack{Z_{xy}\in\vec{Z}_{xy}\\ \forall x\in\vec{x}\\ \forall y\in\vec{y}}} f(Z_{xy}) \end{equation} However, the result still ...

Guys, do you think this lion is suitable for the next interview?
user image

@PauloCereda That's stereotypical no? Then make the text right-to-left :P

@percusse I'm sending the image to Khaled, let's see what he thinks. :)
Well, if you guys think it's not wise, I'll stick with the default interview logo. :)

klaT XeT
I think it's fun. No problem for me.

@percusse :)

:)
Let's see if it recognizes tumblr stuff...
nope but wtf evolution will kill me one day from laughing

2 hours later…
1:09 PM
Spammers are back, watching Liverpool v Manchester United it seems

2 hours later…
2:57 PM
The interview is ready. :) Let's wait for Khaled to reply about the logo. :)

@PauloCereda Cool

@JosephWright Thanks to you and barbara. :)

how can I download latex

@KaziarafatAhmed tug.org/texlive or miktex.org
@KaziarafatAhmed Assuming you mean 'how do I set up LaTeX'
@KaziarafatAhmed It's quite big, though, and I see you are perhaps not in the best place in the world for a fast internet connection. A DVD version is available.

3:25 PM
@percusse I reckon it's drawn twice (but then I didn't know tikz had a manual:-)

3:50 PM
@DavidCarlisle That's certainly puzzling. Having in the PDF output means drawn or created twice?
Because I know for sure it's created twice

@percusse as far as I can see it's drawn twice on same spot.
@percusse But I would have expected that to be in a box register that only gets used once but it certainly gets into the page shipout twice

@DavidCarlisle If you use append after command the current path is interrupted and saved somewhere, then the contents of the key is executed and after some black magic the original path is resumed.

@percusse it would look very similar if the hidden one was drawn white-on-white, but I couldn't see any such colour settings (although they are not so easy to spot in the log)

@DavidCarlisle Well the manual warns for it so the usage is kind of hope for the best type but I never checked whether it is only created twice or printed twice.

@percusse oddly enough I went for adding \showoutput rather than looking at the manual.

3:56 PM
@DavidCarlisle I wish one day emacs will have a shortcut for the manuals, until that day it's brute force TeX wizardry.

4:08 PM
@percusse minerva will have it. :)

4:23 PM
@JosephWright do you think @FrankMittelbach needs a full example, I figured he could take it from there:-)

@DavidCarlisle Well yes, but the 'wiki-like' part means something like
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{etoolbox}
\tracingpatches
\usepackage{multicol}
\makeatletter
\show\balance@columns
\edef\reset@newlinechar{\newlinechar\the\newlinechar}
\newlinechar-1 %
\patchcmd{\balance@columns}
  {\ifshr@nking \vfill \fi}
  {\CHANGED}
  {}
  {}
\show\balance@columns
\reset@newlinechar
might be nice :-)
I just picked the last part of the code so the change shows up

@JosephWright ok will add (I'd have had to look up the etoolbox syntax:-)
@JosephWright done
@PauloCereda note above discussion with @percusse showing why adding tracing to tikz code is more reliable than finding the manual that is alleged to exist.
@JosephWright in the new order should I answer this or just close it as simple user error? tex.stackexchange.com/questions/131091/keyval-undefined-error

@DavidCarlisle Not a typo, so perhaps does deserve an answer :-)

@JosephWright OK

@DavidCarlisle :)

4:34 PM
@JosephWright Do you understand this objective here?

Q: How can I center *and* decimal-align a PGFPlots table?

Sean AllredHere is the code I am working with: \documentclass{article} \usepackage{filecontents} \begin{filecontents}{measurements.dat} sample num-bugs num-part other-measure another 5 80 190 200 210 15 520 410 430 350 25 650 640 630 ...

@percusse Something like \sisetup{table-format = 4.0, table-number-alignment = center}, perhaps?

@JosephWright I'm not so bright today (not that I'm shining other days), I can't picture the end result.

@percusse Decimal point isn't centred, but looks the same as if you had the header row and the longest entry in a simple c column, but with the other (shorter) entries aligned on the decimal point.

@percusse Did you see the (ASCII) example he added?

@JosephWright @TorbjørnT. Ah got it.

1 hour later…
5:57 PM
Please, a quick one: which space is used by default after a relation atom like =? Is it equivalent of \; or \:?

6:41 PM
@tohecz \; I believe...
\sbox0{${}={}$}
\the\wd0

\sbox0{$\;{=}\;$}
\the\wd0
Well, that wasn't quick, I guess ...

@tohecz thickmuskip (so \;)

@DavidCarlisle thanks, I wasn't 100% sure. In the end, {} was enough ;)

2 hours later…
8:58 PM
@egreg so do you want to post the makeindex thingy and steal my tick, or should I edit in to my answer:-) (I just worked out `|foo` with `\def\foo#1{\xfoo#1}
\def\xfoo#1-{#1}` but yours is better

9:11 PM
@DavidCarlisle Consider it a gift.

@egreg :-) thank you kindly sir...

LaTeX3 folks: Is there a reason that \exp_last_two_unbraced:NVV is not present in l3expan? It can't be generated as a variant of \exp_last_two_unbraced:Noo. I implemented my own using \exp_after:wN and \__exp_eval_register:N, but this feels like a hack. Is there a better way? Relatedly, why is there no \exp_args:no etc.?

@HenryDeYoung The unbraced versions are for very particular use cases: we've only added exactly those we need, and Frank feels the name is wrong :-)

@JosephWright Okay, makes sense. Is the same true for \exp_args:no etc.?

9:26 PM
@HenryDeYoung Never been needed, and seem at odds with the expl3 approach (to be honest, most direct use of \exp_args... is a bit that way)

@DavidCarlisle No lightsaber fight? I'm disappointed. :)

@PauloCereda I'm a bit short of rep, today; but after 1000+ km in two days I guess it's good to be tired. ;-)

@JosephWright What I'm trying to do is pass the contents of two tl variables to a macro declared with \DeclarePairedDelimiter from the mathtools package. If the macro was written in LaTeX3, then I would just use \cs_generate_variant so that the macro itself would expand the tl variables. But since I can't do that, I was wanting \exp_last_two_unbraced:NVV. Is there an easier way around this sort of thing? If you think this would be better as a formal question, let me know.

@PauloCereda don't worry, it's just postponed, not cancelled.

10:20 PM
@DavidCarlisle, @egreg: :)

@PauloCereda During the trip home I stopped at an old little church, because Mass was starting in a few minutes. That church dates back to the tenth century, it has some frescoes probably of the 13th century (some local painter, not really skilled, I'd say).

@egreg How nice! Was the mass in Italian? :)

@PauloCereda Yes, why shouldn't it? I was in France yesterday. ;-)

@egreg Oh my bad, I thought you were still in France. :) I just know Je vous salue Marie and that's all. :)

kan
10:36 PM
@PauloCereda Je - I and vous - you...
See, I am learning French. :)

@kan Keep up the good work. :)

kan
@PauloCereda Hey, I could invite you too, if you're interested, you know? BTW, what is your facebook name?

@kan You gotta be kidding. Facebook?

kan
@PauloCereda You don't have a fb account? I did not have too! Like using emacs. But, most of my friends are at fb.

@kan Nope, I'm not into Facebook. :)

kan
10:48 PM
@PauloCereda Oh, OK.

@kan I get a lot of pressure (specially from lady friends) to create an account. But I'm not into it.

kan
@PauloCereda True, a time sink!
Sometimes useful for me, because, some friends aren't active on G+.

@kan Well, I still encourage human contact. :)

kan
@PauloCereda You know, some of us far away! Like if I were to meet you at Brazil, that would be a lot of time!

@kan Still, sharing stuff via social stuff is definitely not my cup of tea. :)

kan
11:01 PM
@PauloCereda OK.

@kan The real problem with Facebook is, every person that barely knows me will request to be added as a friend, and lots of awkwardness are supposed to raise from this situation. :)

kan
@PauloCereda Hmm, no!
I only add as friends whom I know.

@kan That's the problem. If I live in a big city, no problem. But I live in a very small city, and that's serious.
