First get him into a chat of course explaining him whats wrong with his behavior and deleting those posts then regardless of if I had spoke to him or not, sometimes users leave the site for days to return then
If its a 100% plagiat (i.e. copy & paste) or close to copy and paste which i already had found some of myself as regular user
for now i would even have to ask an elder mod if the account has to be removed as well (not sure about that) but I'm definitively able to adapt :)
and i might even consider if the question should not be marked as a duplicate
This is something I have just become aware of as another has been using an old answer of mine, so I just edited his answers to include Source with a link to my answer
It really should be flagged as duplicate here, as you have stated
I'm actually spending around 10+ hours a day on the site except the moments the real life (you know that arkward adventure with that great analog graphics and not so great storyline) calls
To be honest, it's me that has to say thank you to people like you who have devoted time and experience to make this site a great place for finding information and help in the time of need.
@Rinzwind Well, being in chat is not all that important, really. Not all the current mods are active in chat and I'm basically the only U&L mod who's often in chat.
If it was two people arguing about a technical point, I'd probably be stuck and not know the answer. If it was site policy, I'd do my best to express it to them as well I can.
Either way, I'd try to diffuse the situation quickly, with little collateral damage.
Say, @Tim, you said you would re-evaluate actions. What about askubuntu.com/questions/783993/…? Do you think you could have handled that a bit better?
I didn't look into the facts behind it, so I don't know where the truth lies. :)
BTW, I don't pull that out to put you on the spot. Just wondering how you would manage that as a mod. Obviously, the mod has a very different position than you have currently and you could address the situation with more authority.
I think I expressed myself well, and engaged with others without getting angry. I also asked on Ask Different, and they close those as off topic.
So while I think it's something we need to discuss as a community, I'm happy with how that went, and the closure is acceptable. I'm probably not going to vote to reopen (and certainly would not with mod powers).
That sort of question is something we need to agree on Meta, the site scope should change, and the help centre could be updated to reflect that.
I'm still not convinced that we should do the same as Ask Different (because Apple make the devices etc) so we need to decide. I may make the meta post later, my brain is frazzeled with Statistics rn
let me ask this.. I want to buy a Dell laptop preloaded with Ubuntu. It so happens that my local store ran out of stock. So, I am posing a question "When will my local store have Ubuntu laptops?"
Yep. Right on. And if you look at the comments, you'll see that I was initially opposed to leaving this question open. I still am.
However, I fail to see that we should just throw out the opinions of 30k users. Obviously, there is a reason they have gained that reputation. They know the site.
Bear in mind, there are all sorts of things in meta. If the site users think it is important, they'll take it to the top.
Okay the differences with Dell are 1. They also sell it with Windows 2. They're not partnered with Canonical 3. We're talking about their online site only
Okay better comparison: Asking on "Ask Windows" when the surface pro will be back in stock on the Microsoft store site?
This is a subject that we've touched upon slightly in the past, but either the questions are based on old close reasons such as "General Reference" and "Too Localized", which are now gone - or they're a little more specific.
Movie Trailer Based Questions
How do we deal with questions about rum...
@jokerdino just curious, in summer, I am pretty sure I am out for 3-4, probably only secretely logging in once and a while, would disqualify me in anticipation? Same in October for a few weeks.
@ParanoidPanda no. And mods are more in the public eye than others. Gilles has a post somewhere where he says another mod who had their real name in the profile got called at home by an irate user.
you would to have it explicitly set to show your email address to show it, otherwise only the options to use the launchpad contact form to mail through the system
