@RebeccaChernoff I've got another blog question, if you're here
I'm doing a comparison of a few similar apps where I rank each app on a bunch of metrics and tests. The 'best app' is determined by the app that has the best score overall, but I'd like to be able to customize that to each reader's priorities.
For example, if a user doesn't care about price, that's a factor in which app they choose. Or if a user doesn't care as much about ease of use as they do performance.
So, to do that, I'd like to include a little JavaScript 'widget'.
Is there any way that I could add an arbitrary script that works with arbitrary HTML in a post?
@JasonSalaz it's a joke based on the similar sounding etymology and entomology, the former being the study of the sources of words, the latter being the study of insects
Re: XKCD, the alt text of that comic talks about yet another joke then. I figured today's comic was referencing etymology man two strips back, but then I read the alt text and was further confused.
@JasonSalaz My concerns were valid for the EULA as originally written, but I'm delighted that you were right about their intentions. I can print the output of iBooks Author and charge to recoup my photocopy cost without violating the EULA now. I couldn't before.
Re XKCD, I got the joke in the cartoon, but I'm still lost on the alt text.
What's the current status?
Let's say this first: The Super User blog is a great idea, and we've had enormous success with it. We've had a lot of diverse contributions, inspired by our Question of the Week posts on Meta, and several regular writers. Even more so, Stack Exchange has launched a num...
In addition to replacing UserVoice, would it also be a good idea to replace the blog itself with Meta? Given WordPress' recent flakiness, I think that a more stable replacement is in order. The idea isn't as crazy as it sounds - a blog moderator tag could prevent people from posting their own stu...

It's not a bad idea, but I think it has some downsides
too many eggs in one basket
meta is already stretched as a semi-discussion site, stretching it into a blog feels a bit like kitchen-sink-itis
would be additional coding work specific to meta

We're definitely looking at this and I, at least, feel it is strongly on-mission.
However, it would be a major feature and will take (seriously, no really) 6-8 months to put together.
And of course there are other things we're working on, but just know that we think this is a great idea that so...
I appreciate that things change for a multitude of reasons, it's just funny.
No.
Not everybody can be bothered to keep up with MSO. blog.stackoverflow.com is a better outlet for Jeff's propaganda because it is
almost always on topic, and almost never repetative
posts are 100% official
has a much higher signal-to-noise ration than MSO
lower volume of posts, which suits...
I know there was a lot of stuff there that's no longer relevant now that SE 1.0 no longer exists, but I still think that the content should be preserved somewhere
ugh, when I type app and wait, chrome's first result is .blogoverflow.com and not .stackexchange.com, UGH. blogoverflow is not my majority browsing case
p.s. stack exchange. 'blog.askdifferent.com' and 'askdifferent.com' would go a LONG WAY TOWARDS FIXING THIS.
Ghost Buttons on the iPad's Split Keyboard
Many have complained about the split keyboard not matching their natural finger choice for the middle letters (TY / GH / VB), but as it turns out, those keys all exist on the both sides of the keyboard. Want to hit Y with your left finger? Do it, it's t...
That site is absurdly unstable. Who posted about it?
If someone has physical access to your computer, you can deter, but you cannot prevent. Period. End of discussion.
It depends on what you're trying to prevent exactly, but given enough time, effort, skill/knowledge, and access, they can get in. It's really as simple as that.
The only secure computer is the one that has never been used for anything by anyone
Unless you want to type in your unencryption key for every bye of information that is unencrypted as and when required.
And even then your key is in emory for the length of time it takes to sign the hash etc.
There really is no way around this, if it can be made available to 1 user it can be made available to more given the right tools, enough time, and sufficient access whether remote or local.
Afraid I've got to leave again atm, but if it seems likely that it stopped working after switching the power supply, that's probably the problem. Strange as it sounds...
