Hey I have a quick question for someone, I was just wondering if anyone has ever proved that there are infinitely many Pentagonal-Triangular numbers. (I came up with a proof in my number theory class a long ways back for extra credit that involved Brahmagupta's lemma), (The problem boils down to a pell-like equation for which there are infinitely many solutions).

@RustynYazdanpour sounds vaguely similar to finding all square triangular numbers (again, an infinite sequence of solutions) - I wonder if every pair of "figurate numbers" gives rise to a similar Pell-like equation?

@OldJohn Yes I find these problems interesting, I handled all the square,triangular,pentagonal cases deriving every scenario.
@user58512 I've seen those sites... It doesn't say that there are infinitely many solutions for the pentagonal-triangular cases... It just gives solutions
 
I would be interested in the general case: are there an infinite number of n-agonal numbers which are also m-agonal?

Q: Finding integer solutions for trigonometric equation $8\sin^2\left(\frac{(k+1)\pi}{n}\right)=n\sin\left(\frac{2\pi}{n}\right)$

bartoI thought up the problem of finding a regular $n$-sided polygon that has a diagonal with lenght $d_k$ such that the area of the polygon equals ${d_k}^2$. By doing some easy trigonometry within the polygon I got the equation $$8\sin^2\left(\frac{(k+1)\pi}{n}\right)=n\sin\left(\frac{2\pi}{n}\right)...

I wonder if you saw this, very good question
I added cos^2 to both sides and thought I'd solved it for a moment, but didn'tt
want to see it solved
 
@OldJohn So would I. For example there are no pentagonal-square-triangular numbers. It is not hard to derive silcox's system.
no pentagonal-square-triangular other than the trivial (1,1,1)

@AnthonyPeter A common way to find out which journal is worth submitting to is to find a journal which has already published papers in your area - and if you find a paper which includes the words " ... it is not known if XXX is true ..." and your paper includes a proof of XXX - then that would be a good journal to submit to
