Joonas: "In the river looking for water", great! Why can't I give both contributors a green tick? I have always thought that "wood", in this expression, meant wood = lignum; not wood = forest = silva: can't see the wood (timber) for the trees?

@tony Perhaps Finnish biases me, but I always saw it as forest, not the material. But you could use it either way, just with a different meaning.
If you really like an answer, any answer to any question, you can give it a bounty. I've given quite a few of them, although not recently.

@tony, in German (as I suppose in Finnish) it is quite clear: "Den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht sehen" – Wald means definitely silva, not lignum.
Re vera, nescio utrum responsum anteponam ad illud rogatum: meum an quod ab Expedito Bipes est confectum.

Sed arbitror bonum esse multa responsa habere apud talem quaestionem.

@SebastianKoppehel Semper ita! Solius rogatoris est responsum aptissimum eligere, sed omnia responsa omnibus lectoribus usui esse possunt.
Una mensurarum salutis situs a Stack Exchange adhibitarum est numerus responsorum.
@Nickimite Regarding the constant value question, I agree that constans can be used as an adjective. I was just wondering whether using the underlying verb could lead to new translation options, like virtus constat.
I haven't thought much about that question yet.

@JoonasIlmavirta Legi, ut memini, idoneum numerum medium responsorum esse unam ex multis mensuris ad statu beta exsistendum.

@SebastianKoppehel Ita vero. Vidistine hoc?

Illam paginam non cognoverat, sed valde notabilis est. Videtur nos debere plura rogata scribere ...
Ugh, cognoveram. My Latin is not good enough for chatting :(

@SebastianKoppehel Yours is better than mine! I can understand some bits here and there, but not everything. I still like reading it, though. It's like immersion for me.
