in general, moving messages disrupts the flow of other rooms, and should be done sparingly

And my feelings in this case were spot-on as the conversation ended there and moving the conversation to TIF would've accomplished nothing other than an abrupt gap in messages and shunting someone to a room that they had not consented to be in in the first place.

If you feel that I don't have the capacity to make the discretion on whether to migrate messages are not, then I'm okay with dropping my room ownership, as the whole reason I have it is predicated on me running an event that no longer occurs.

As far as the membrane between the Bridge and TIF goes, I feel like TIF-esque conversations in the Bridge are fine so long as they are short and self-contained. How "short" and "self-contained" are defined is up to the room owners and mods who have the ability to migrate messages.

@BunsGlazing I liked that Titanfall 2's campaign didn't feel like there was any unnecessary cruft to it.

It was short but every part of it was important to some degree (arguments can be made about the sewers and factory).

I completed the whole thing in an afternoon+evening but it was definitely worth the time I spent on it.

(and the map in Dead Cells behaves very much like a traditional 'vania map, while the map in Hollow Knight behaves like something that hates you personally)

It reminds me of Dark Souls, where you don't get a map at all and you have to learn areas by moving around in them.

Hollow Knight is one of the best metroidvania games ever release IMO

I really like the concept of its map system but I find the implementation infuriating.

It's entirely possible to explore most of an area without getting the map for it. Once you do find the map it's a mandatory money sink. Once you pay the money the map is still of limited usefulness between only updating at benches (which themselves sometimes cost money!) and basic functionality requiring an equipment slot.

You need to sink more money into it to unlock things like "the map displays save points".

Basically, it's a huge money sink to unlock functionality that is still sub-par compared to most vanias and half the time isn't even available until after you've explored 90% of the area you want the map for.

Oh, and if you sit on a bench in an area you don't have the map for, it'll say "map updated!" and then "lol no map" when you call its bluff.

Here's an alternate implementation: the map fills in with basic room outlines as you explore. Resting gives the Knight a chance to think back over the terrain and fill in more detail; detailed areas will show save points, uncollected items, NPCs, etc and will show your location in them when you return there.

The mapper is still around but fills in unexplored areas with the "basic outline" pro-rated based on how much you've already explored.

There, the mapper is still useful, there's still that nice atmospheric connection of "sitting down to gather your thoughts and fill in the map", but the map is also, y'know, useful.

I think I almost never explored most of an area before finding Cornifer

(this is all fresh in my mind because I was recently convinced to give Hollow Knight another try after ditching it the first time before I even got the dash ability)

And from my point of view, what you're calling a "sub-par" map is more of a deliberate choice to create a different play experience by giving players different information at different times.
