caniuse.com is fantastic for figuring out what works on which browsers

html5boilerplate.com is a nice resource for starting a new site from scratch. a lot of web standards experts are involved

then there is modernizr.com fir more older/newer browser support

chances are if your new job has an existing site and workflow they will explain all that to you when you start
