I want to teach my friend to play videogames, and am asking for an advice about where to start. I can tag it with "Portal", as I plan to use this game (as for now), but I don't think that it's really a good idea.
Hello! I have an aquintance who hasn't played any computer games, ever, and wants to learn them. Of course, there are no preferences yet, as there is no knowledge about games at all. Where should I start teaching?
I plan to use Portal for that training, as it has a nice tutorial, controls are very simple, and also commonly used in most of the games as a basis (WASD, E to interact, mouse to use item in hand variously). I plan to simply let her know of those concepts and then let her complete the tutorial herself etc.
Thank you for all that advice, it is all very good. I think, I will download HL1 in my Steam Library, and fix my Minecraft server while watching my friend learning the basics of movement.
We will start with Peaceful in Minecraft, but it is still a bit advanced as it requires crafting and respective knowledge.
I can't find a way to use a Galacticraft oxygen collector to fill a Mekanism machine with oxygen. Is there a way I can do this with these mods? If not, are there any other mode that can help do this?
If you're looking at an FPS in your steam library go with Serious Sam, @Baskakov_Dmitriy. Those games will give you good FPS control if you don't already have it. You'll learn to move, aim, shoot, and do all three at the same time. She'd also learn how to prioritize different enemies.
It might be a bit harder to hop into at first than a game like half life, but I think she'd wind up learning and refining all those core movement mechanics a lot quicker.

I managed to get 3 weeks + 2 weeks at christmas last year due to overtime.... but I think I may have actually messed my overtime up last year and didn't actually use any of it, so I basically just gave myself free vacation.

I like that WoW decided that MMOs don't already have enough of a time sink while you're at the computer, so they have mobile apps now to make sure you're constantly checking in no matter what you're doing.
