Can we real talk for a second, before I post something to meta? The more I hang out around SE, the more I like it. I like the parent sites, I like the standards, I like the Q&A format. I even like the ability to get meta on the site, and establish de facto practices by voting within the community. However, there seems to be a problem when it comes to actually establishing policy.

When it comes time for us to actually make a decision on how to handle something as a community, is the Q&A format really the best way to establish that?

@twobugs But there really isn't a refinment stage. Meta posts are presented as finished, completed projects, and voted on from there, so you wind up with meta questions in the 20s with 6 answers struggling to break 5. I dunno, it just seems kinda ineffective to me

And it's fine to have multiple competing answers. If there isn't strong support for one or two then you don't have a clear thing to base site policy on, but that's not really a problem either. Some aspects are complex and expecting them to be resolved simply isn't realistic
