I'm not sure what I just watched
@Unionhawk In case of confusion, rewatch
@Rapitor A good number of the animators that worked on Gurren Lagann also worked on Kill La Kill.
They left Gainax and formed Studio Trigger. Which is also headed by Anno, I think.
@Yuuki mhm. since Gianax is no more a lot of the staff went on to Trigger, with Kill La Kill being their first, and this season's anime is a bit tamer, but still bonkers
LinkedIn is the worst.
@Rapitor What's this season?

> I am a recruiting consultant specializing in software and wanted to alert you of an opportunity you may be interested in. I work with Amazon.com based in Seattle, WA, and am searching for software engineers of all levels to join a BRAND NEW TEAM in Seattle working on a STEALTH PROJECT.
I've always wanted to work on a STEALTH PROJECT
@Sterno Oh, boy! STEALTH PROJECT! That means it pays triple my current salary, right? Right!?
When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace, known in Japan as Inou Battle Within Everyday Life (異能バトルは日常系のなかで, Inō-Batoru wa Nichijō-kei no Naka de), is a Japanese light novel series by Kota Nozomi with illustrations by 029. SB Creative has published seven volumes since 2012 under their GA Bunko imprint. A manga adaptation with art by Kōsuke Kurose began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten's Comp Ace from September 2013. An anime television series adaptation by Trigger began airing in Japan on October 6, 2014. == Plot == The story focuses on Senkō High School's Literature Club, whose five members...
@Frank Depends on your level of stealth.
@Rapitor Yeah, kinda interested in that.
@Rapitor Gainax is still a thing. It's just not the big player it used to be.
@Sterno I feel like this has happened before
HOLY CRAP WHO IS HAMMERING THINGS IN THIS BUILDING
17:11
@Rapitor Hadn't heard of that one. Might check it out, see if it's any good.
@DwarfSlice If you're okay with not-giant robots and Western animation, Big Hero 6 is dropping next week.
@Sterno Amazon Recruiters have reached out to me at least every month recently.
@Yuuki it's still got robots. and baloon bots
@Yuuki I've seen a couple trailers for this movie. Even if it's a kid's movie, it looks pretty good.
@Rapitor I said "not-giant".
17:12
Welp
@Frank I like the music in the trailers, but apparently it won't be in the movie.
That just happened
@Frank Disney animation does super kids movies like Frozen, and animated movies for everyone like Wreck-it-Ralph
@Rapitor To be fair, I kinda liked both of those.
I don't think many young kids would get any of the jokes or references in wreck-it-ralph
17:13
It's also the first Disney-Marvel animated movie.
@Frank This
Disney owns practically everything at this point...
waiting for that artical on their purchase on like microsoft or google
then world domination
@Rapitor Yeah, that's not going to happen
Also, to prepare for Avengers 2, my little sister and I are watching through all of the movies in the Marvel Cinematic universe. In order.
Disney doesn't seem like they'd go that route... I feel they're more likely to purchase Amtrak and Delta and put the hubs minutes from Disneyland/world
17:16
@Frank That's awesome
@Frank that will take quite a while
@Sconibulus Aren't there already airports and train stations near Disneyland/world?
@Sconibulus hahahahaha it's funny because it's true
@Sconibulus yeah, they have their own transportation stuffs
@Rapitor Ten movies. We're starting in the middle of January, and watching two movies every three weeks.
By the time we're done, there's three weeks until Avengers 2.
17:18
@murgatroid99 yes, but they are not national hubs, as far as I know
"Here delta, here's a bajillion dollars, make this a hub pls"
@Unionhawk This seems like a more likely scenario to me
New user is posting links to their youtube videos. Not disclosing that it's their video. Spam?
I don't like the song Disney seemingly replaced it with.
17:21
@Frank Eh. I've posted links to my own videos that I made to answer questions without specifically saying that I made the videos
@Frank New user. Notify them of the policy before punitive action.
@murgatroid99 You're established. The majority of your posts aren't there to promote your videos.
@Yuuki That's what I'm currently doing.
@Frank I guess I'm just trying to say that if the answer is primarily promoting the video, that's different than if the video is primarily answering the question
@murgatroid99 We still require video answers to be summarized, just like link only answers.
@Frank Of course
I didn't say otherwise
When I said "the video is primarily answering the question", I meant "the primary purpose of the video is answering the question"

Q: What are the keys to having an active clan?

SparowWhat are some of the best things to do for your clan in order for them to be active? There is no way to monitor day-to-day activity, and some of my members are inactive despite us begging them to attack in wars or donate. Is there any good way to get members to be active?

@Lazers Speaking of spam...
@murgatroid99 Making videos to answer questions is awesome. So long as there's something in there that goes, "Hey, I made this video to show you how to do this." And there's a summary of what's there, in case the video ever gets removed. If it looks like people are answering questions to promote their videos, though, and that's showing up from one of their first posts, it's starting to get a little iffy.
If the video answers the question I see literally no problems with it.
Other than the obvious "don't link only", but nobody is arguing that
@Unionhawk Even if its self promotion?
@Frank Even if it's self promotion.
I agree with @Unionhawk
17:29
@Unionhawk Our rules are that you have to disclose that.
@Frank Link to user?
@Frank Why does it matter?
@Frank I think that if anything, you should just comment that they should say that
@Unionhawk Because it colors how people look at their contributions.
@murgatroid99 That's what I've currently done.
But we've got three answers from him. Two have links to his videos. He's responding to summarizing the video content, but so far, nothing about the fact that they're his videos.
17:30
@Frank You only commented on one of the video answers (that I can see), and you were kind of vague about the fact that it's actually a rule
Flag it for moderator attention then, @Frank. You commented asking him to edit it in. If he doesn't do that, then I think it falls to the mods to deal with.

A: Limits for self-promotion in answers

Jeff AtwoodThanks to everyone who participated in this dicussion, particularly Ira. Based on what we've decided in this question, I have updated the /faq on all sites to make it policy: May I promote products I am affiliated with here? The community generally frowns on overt self-promotion and ten...

@Wipqozn I don't like the whole, "Meh. Let the mods handle it" stance.
Frankly, I find it worse when the answer is something like "I made this video on my amazing Minecraft channel that has let's plays every Thursday" as opposed to "Here is a helpful tutorial video"
17:31
@Frank If you use words like "generally" and "we tend to frown on...", they might not get the message that it's actually required
That's kinda just passing the buck.
@Frank Certain things are mod responsibilities. This is one of those things.
@Yuuki I think there's a difference between the SO brand of self promotion, and the "I made a video about this" brand of self promotion.
2
@murgatroid99 Man, I get flak for speaking too authoritatively, and now I'm getting flak for not speaking authoritatively enough. :P
I don't think regular users should be getting into extended discussion about users not following rules. You told him the rule, if he doesn't respond or make the edit, then it's something mods should deal with, not a regular user.
17:32
@Wipqozn Mods are exception handlers. This is something we can handle ourselves.
hi im a mod
@Frank If it's an actual rule, and you make it sound like it's not, they might not understand that it's an actual rule
@Frank You must walk on the razor's edge, young Padawan.
@badp readies abuse button
There's no mod abuse here really
Frank told him to add a description... and he did
17:34
Hello, welcome to Arqade. As a rule, we require that you disclose when you reference outside resources that you are affiliated with. In this case, it just means that you have to say in your answer that you made the video you linked to. — murgatroid99 11 secs ago
and I'm like
@murgatroid99 That's much more clear.
(translation: @badp is confused as to why this is still an issue) does that sum it up well enough?
@Unionhawk It's policy on all sites.
> However, you must disclose your affiliation with the product in your answers.
If they edit the information in following that comment, then that confirms my hypothesis about @Frank's wording
17:35
"Product" does not mean "thing you can sell".
@Unionhawk and/or amazed that the user actually went back to add details
@murgatroid99 I hope they do.
Given the avatar and name I was fully expecting some sort of @fredley joke account
He made an edit.
> Here is a tutorial I made showing you [how to install Optifine for Minecraft 1.8][1]
Yay, problem solved.
17:36

Hooray, non-issue status achieved
Yes. Balance is restored.
I argue this was basically a non-issue to begin with but whatever!
Yay!
ORAGAMIROBOT THE LOUD, you are the first to make it to the tower
Problem, it is solved! Yay!
17:37
@Unionhawk Frank's concerns about not stating it was his own video are valid.
@Wipqozn The username and avatar matched for both, I think the "I made this" is self-evident.
@Wipqozn always good to see a user listen
8 mins ago, by Frank
@Unionhawk Because it colors how people look at their contributions.
Whatever
11 hours ago, by Unionhawk
(whenever I say "who cares", it's a rhetorical question where the answer is "I don't!")
If you have to click through a link to find out the user made it, that's sorta sketchy in my book. It feels like they're contributing for the wrong reasons.
Especially when the bar for disclosure is so low.
17:40

A: Why does saying "Swiper, no swiping!" three times prevent Swiper from swiping?

RichardThis is discussed at some considerable length in this article from howstuffworks. In short, his swiping is to be viewed less as a character flaw and more of a character trait: Show Co-Creator Valerie Walsh gives us some further insight: Swiper is a one-dimensional character. You don’t know w...

I honestly think that it's still to enforce "spam" rules on random people on the internet
Reddit does that and it's stupid
@Unionhawk You're arguing a bit too much for a "I don't care" reaction.
Anyways, back to giant robots!
So you're telling me the difference between a helpful user and a user who is promoting their stuff is an "I made this"?
2
@Unionhawk Yes.
17:41
Really?
...
Is it really this much of a problem to ask users to follow rules?
#AllTheParagraphs
@Unionhawk Relevant:
(P.S. not that relevant at all)
@Yuuki lol, that comic :)
@Yuuki That's plagiarism. :P
17:42
Was it really necessary to ban me over that
@DwarfSlice Probably
@DwarfSlice Huh?
What happened?
@Yuuki I got a 30 minute ban 30 minutes ago.
For the gif of the lady with the hammer
@Wipqozn This happened. Dora is now more legitimately answered than many questions on SFF.
@Koviko Nah. SFF has always been an excellent source of answers. The problems The Bridge has with SFF has to do with their question scope, not the quality of their answers.
@Yuuki I just, think that the bar for "spammy self promotion" should be more geared towards "is user helpful y/n", especially in the context of youtube videos and not "I made this thing". Why is the user making the thing relevant?
Dat Windows 93 though :P
@Yuuki He posted a NSFW picture
@Unionhawk It's not.
17:44
@Wipqozn I mean that this answer has a very official source rather than a scramble of canon.
EXACTLY
@Wipqozn What was nsfw about it?
@DwarfSlice The scantily clad lady drawing attention to her buttocks.
My idea of "legitimate" is colored by my time spent on Arqade where we make lots of guesses and assumptions about lore and mechanics, but an official developer response is the only "legitimate" answer.
she was fully clothed, what are you talking about
17:46
@StrixVaria Where can I find this image?
it's from a shitty music video
@Koviko Not on the bridge, preferably.
jeez
it didn't even get flagged
nobody even asked me to remove it
you just banned me
it wasn't even bad
:18345667 I didn't realize how much I liked this song until just now.
Like, if it's a link only like "Click on my video to learn!" yes that's spammy self promotion and furthermore a link-only, but if the user posts an answer and supplements it with a video why does it matter if they made the video or not, mention or no mention
17:47

@Unionhawk Because it colors how people look at their contributions.
@Unionhawk D: I have some videos in my answers
@Batophobia Eh?
With video answers, I am conflicted.
@Chippies @Arperum Damn.. I might be losing my game's progress from an unknown time :(
17:48
@Unionhawk Because, at this point in time, it is a network-wide policy. If you want that to change, you should bring it up on either our meta or Meta.SE.
Anyone else here play the Hexxit modpack?
If the main reason users are posting answers here to direct traffic to their channel, they can be (and should be) flagged as spam.
You don't try to change the law by breaking it first.
Sure you do/.
17:48
Utility is entirely beside the point.
@Unionhawk Consider this: Do you REALLY care that much?
@Frank I disagree 100%
On one hand, I think that the relevant content of the video should be expressed in the post just like linking to a website, you should quote the relevant material in case the website ever goes down or is changed.
Would seem that when my computer was crashing this morning and I tried to save my file which all said it was ok... Dropbox is reporting it at a size of 0 :(
@Batophobia I guess I do. If only for the principle of the thing.

@Frank Well then, I shall respect your right to be wrong on the internet.
@Koviko This is an orthogonal problem
On the other hand, I think if it's easier to just answer with a video rather than typing it out, you should be welcome to do so and the upvotes/downvotes will speak from there
@Frank No.
You.

@Frank Well then, I shall respect your right to be wrong on the internet.
@Frank Can we please stop with this stupid quote
It's condescending and obnoxious
2
17:49
._.
I've deleted it myself
Good lord, it's a star spam
STARS
I'm just finding the irony here of using his own quote against him somewhat amusing.
@RPiAwesomeness You haven't seen star spam
2
17:50
@Rapitor All the stars
Especially when he enjoys using it against me.
@Unionhawk I've seen something close to it
@Frank Sure, fine, but that quote was never not stupid
@RPiAwesomeness Nah its just the rare Bridge agreeing with each other time it seems
@Frank I have words that would rightfully get me banned right now to respond to this, so I won't use them.
Just know they exist.
17:51
I think we should all just hug it out.
2
@Frank um.. @badp and @Unionhawk are the same person all of a sudden? :D
@James WHy?
apparently @DwarfSlice was beaned again
> yesterday, by Unionhawk
@James Frank linked Union quoting it.
17:51
@Arperum I dont know! I am all Distraught! :(
@Rapitor He posted the video containing the image that got him banned earlier.
QUote of a quote is still a quote
> I have… seen things you people wouldn't believe… Attack stars on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched pins glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those… moments… will be lost to modabuse, like [small cough] tears… in… rain. Time… to die…
""You miss every shot you don't take" ~ Wayne Gretzky" - Micheal Scott
@Koviko Ahhh
17:52
@Koviko Quote overflow
@Unionhawk Well, if you want to disagree, I have no issue arguing it out with you. But you're going with is, "No. I disagree." without actually arguing.
@fredley oh zeus what the hell
@Koviko this quote has always bothered me, just because it's super wrong
CHANGE YOUR GRAVATAR BACK
@Wipqozn What
I didn't do that!
wtf
17:52
@fredley I am soooooooooooooo there.
@Sconibulus I once sold pies without ever attempting to sell pies
@Sconibulus You also make every shot you don't take, but that's not as motivating
@Wipqozn Pot. Meet kettle.
cc: @badp WAT
any good hockey player knows roughly 5% of goals are lucky bounces off of attempted passes
17:53
@fredley You're probably attached to meta.SE
I also once sold a couple muffins twice
@fredley OMG The porkchop is gone!?
that counts as a made shot you don't take
Chat's being weird, it's fine on site
I'm so angry at this that I'm going to leave chat forever!
3
17:53
I'm still attached to gaming
I think it's safe to say
but the gravatar has got confused
@fredley amd you're gaming avatar is right... this is weird.
I BLAME CACHEING
@fredley Yeah, caching is always at fault.
17:54
I BLAME ME BLAMING THINGS.
@Wipqozn your*
@Batophobia Just link to the actual xkcd link
17:54
@fredley mod abuse!
IT'S OKAY, PORKCHOP IS BACK
@badp YOU DONE REFRESHED MY SCREEN
What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!
3
It has hover text
/me looks in
@Frank I mean, the argument came down to "why is this an issue" "because it is, okay?", so I don't think this would be productive.
17:54
@fredley mod abuse!
@James what happened? :(
xkcd spamming :D
@badp what do?
@djsmiley2k Run. RUN! RUN!!!!!
@badp I think you should show @Wipqozn the same courtesy you showed me
17:55
@SaintWacko I've been running all my life.... time to stop I think.
@Unionhawk My point is that you're kinda arguing to the wrong people.
@fredley moderation tools → refresh profile
@Batophobia Dunno I think something made my computer unstable this morning (ithas some CRT Dialog box up) but I was in a hurry to work so I saved it real quick .. but with the file being empty I am concerned :/
@djsmiley2k Bad place to stop!
@Unionhawk Wait, what argument was it? Was it the video content argument or no?
17:55
@Yuuki Fair enough.
although nothing changed for @Wipqozn.
@badp How did it even become unfresh?
Well, heh.
I think I had around 1500 souls to ascend with as well :/
@fredley iunno
17:55
hehe
Even if everyone on the Bridge agreed with your position, it doesn't make a difference because it's Stack Exchange policy.
@James I'm guessing this was meant for @Arperum
@SaintWacko lol yah maybe.
@Yuuki er... what happen? I wasn't looking
@Yuuki We could always try to get it changed. The whole meta thing should allow for the site culture to mature.
17:56
@Unionhawk I could keep this going, but whatever. You're right, it would just be completely unproductive, as we won't agree on this.
@Koviko ... That was my point...
@badp Yes it was, that is the second time its chosen to reply to you instead of whom itshould be going too..
Damn!
If @Unionhawk has a problem with Stack Exchange policy, he needs to go the proper channels.
Effing mouse track pad!
@Arperum I haven't tested it much, but I think the gold is based on the highest zone you have available. The reason I say this is because if I ascend, my highest zone is 101, because of Iris and if I click on candy in level 1, I get enough gold to buy 100 King Midas and even few above him
17:57
The Bridge is not a proper channel for changing network-wide policy.
@James I'm popular!
@Batophobia Grah! Yes! [gets away form the keyboard]
Yeah yeah I might take it to meta.SE someday
in the mean time I will rant on the bridge
er, have ranted
@Chippies hmmm, I'll test when I get a candy.
What's the latest on the @Sterno Dora question?
17:58
I don't even think it requires a policy change per se as much as a clarification
@RPiAwesomeness We called that version "Windows 3.1"
@Unionhawk The current rule is "If you made something and you link to it, you have to say that you made it"
@Powerlord It's so rainbows and and dancy!
It would need to change for that to only apply sometimes
And Virus-y, but that's normal for Windows :P
17:59
Okay, let's pretend I'm secretly CaptainSparklez. Does this answer now break the rules?

A: How to channel Redstone current vertically?

UnionhawkYou can place redstone dust on glowstone and upside-down slabs. This is important because they are also transparent blocks, so the redstone current won't be blocked. You can set up your glowstone or top slabs in an alternating pattern, with redstone on top, and then run the current from there. ...

@murgatroid99 And exactly where it would apply then.
