Q: Are popular porn sites more likely to be infected with malware?

Kervin JacquetI'm trying to help my friend understand this because he believes that since a site is very popular, that it's less likely to infect its viewers because of its security! Is a popular site less likely to infect its viewers? Please answer this question as detailed as possible so I can direct him to...

> Here’s how Ramalandi’s Gift is currently intended to work. This is all with the caveat that it’s still under development, and potentially subject to change:

It will add a socket to an unsocketed weapon
It only works on weapons
It will work on enchanted weapons, so long as they don’t have a socket
It effectively adds an item affix in the form of a socket
I guess Bliz finally caved to the fact that sockets > anything at all.

Aereo goes down, Fox uses it within hours to attempt to kill other innovation it doesn't like.
@Frank the dissenting opinion is very reasonable. The key thing missing from the assenting opinion is that while Aereo looks like a cable company, by definition, it can't be a cable company because it doesn't carry cable!

Q: What do the numbers in Warhammer 40.000 Carnage mean

Mathias711I installed Warhammer 40k Carnage the other day and enjoyed it quite a bit. But after a while I wanted to know how to maximize my score and get three stars everywhere, the first time. Of course that means get damaged as little as possible, as fast as possible, with a combo as high as possible. So...

@MBraedley @Frank What are you two talking about?
@MBraedley The test the Supreme Court used is incredibly questionable; "If it acts like a cable company, it's a cable company"
@James the Supreme Court decided that Aereo was infringing on the broadcasters copyright
22:02
@MBraedley What is Aereo?
@James From what I can glean off radio broadcasts, it was an antenna that allowed you to receive broadcasts without paying for them (like cable channels).
I'm probably wrong somewhere in there.
@Yuuki o.O
@Yuuki it's more than that. It's over the air over the internet plus DVR
It does look like someone streaming a cable tv/satellite tv hook up :D
22:05
And they twisted themselves into knots to comply with existing law.
@James but no cable, just broadcast TV
It was insane what they did to stay legal.
I could understand secondary infringement, but the assenting opinion is just... Wrong
Neat bit of tech really. Streaming public Television.
@James And is now officially illegal.
Because, "They're a cable company"
22:08
7 mins ago, by MBraedley
@Frank the dissenting opinion is very reasonable. The key thing missing from the assenting opinion is that while Aereo looks like a cable company, by definition, it can't be a cable company because it doesn't carry cable!
I would be willing to bet that its because of what they are doing with the content
@AshleyNunn More burnination. If you need some stress release, anyways.
@James they weren't doing anything a private citizen couldn't do
@MBraedley The Supreme Court out and out admitted that they didn't bother checking the differences.
It was just, "Looks like cable? Yep. Cable it is."
22:09
@MBraedley Except charging for it
@Frank I know, which pisses me off
Looking at the Steam Daily Deals. I cannot see how a 12-year old game is more expensive than most of these.
That would be the whole key.. Recording other people's media then offering access to it in another manner for free is likely the issue.
@MBraedley Yep. I have lost all respect for the American Supreme Court on technological matters.
Sure, Age of Mythology is fun, but I don't think it warrants its current base price of $30.
22:10
@James they were renting an antenna and DVR, and enabling the use of them
@James The issue is that the TV companies didn't like it, so tried to kill it.
@James no, that's the cable company misrepresentation
@Braiam ROFL
@MBraedley k, From the bit I read on their site and what they offered that is also My interpretation
@Frank Of course they didnt, They sell ad space based on so many different thing not to mention localities.
@James And they shouldn't be allowed to kill innovation just because they don't like it.
With their now targeting advertisement going to the wrong audiences and not generating revenue it is indeed going to be something that a company that is making the content is going to be upset about
22:12
Face it; the TV and music congolomerates are twenty or thirty years out of date.
user15026
@Frank You know I like destruction :D
@Frank Innovation is fine and its a neat bit of tech
But selling other people's content is definitely a big nono.
Anything they say should be responded to with, "Yes, gramps, we know you don't like it. Go sit in the corner again."
@James as far as Aereo is concerned, the broadcasters have already been paid with that advertising
@James They're doing nothing of the sort.
22:13
okok we are not going to agree on this.. Annnnywho
What they're doing is the literal equivalent of grabbing your personal antenna and DVR, and moving it somewhere it.
Wayward Souls on the iPad is a pretty damn fun rogue like :)

From what I can tell, the stake is reduced by however many people/horses/snails/turtles/rocks/etc. tie and returned to you based on the original odds.
So in a three-way dead heat, your stake is reduced to a third and you get money back as if you bet that reduced stake and won.
So, $75 bet on 100:1 odds resulting in a three-way dead heat would be (75 / 3) * 100 = $2500.

22:28
@MBraedley /s/Guys guys guys/@AshleyNunn @AshleyNunn @AshleyNunn
@LessPop_MoreFizz does @AshleyNunn understand the joke?
@MBraedley except that Aereo, because of it's timeshiftimg, and record/fast forward capabilities, inherently devalues that advertising, lowering the rates the broadcasters could be paid. Cable companies pay broadcasters to carry their broadcasts. Aereo doesn't. There is no tangible difference between what Aereo offers and what a cable company offers, therefore, why should there be a tangible difference in the compensation model?
user15026
@MBraedley I have been resisting that SO HARD
user15026
@MBraedley Yes I do :)
user15026
I want that game SO much but I am trying not to spend money on it
user15026
22:31
because I need to spend less money
@LessPop_MoreFizz it's odd you say that, because the dissenting opinion implies that forced time shifting is all Aereo has to do in order to be legal.
@MBraedley Key words: Dissenting Opinion.
@LessPop_MoreFizz also, at issue is Aereo being a public performer. Is it a performance? Probably. Is it public? I don't think so.
@LessPop_MoreFizz in response to the assenting opinion
@MBraedley Yes, but the point is, that that is an interpretation which, as of now, does not carry the weight of law - it may be correct, but it'd be tested in court, and I do not think it's as open and shut as you seem to conclude.
@MBraedley be careful about applying a dictionary definition to a legal term of art like 'public performance'.
@LessPop_MoreFizz not a lawyer, just my opinion.
@LessPop_MoreFizz I'm not saying it wouldn't be tested, but it is an interesting point
22:37
@MBraedley Right, and I'm telling you, as a fellow non-lawyer who has opinions on such matters, that one very easy trap to fall into is mistaking the dictionary definition for a word with it's specific, technical, legal definition, which is often quite different.
The Aereo opinion goes into pretty great detail about the definition of 'public performance' and why aereo falls under that umbrella; it seems like the least controversial aspect of the whole case, tbqh.
@LessPop_MoreFizz fair, but reading some of the follow-up, there is also mention of the public being those outside of family and a description of people generally referred to as friends. Your antenna cannot, in general without violating the Aereo TOS, be used by people outside of those described
Ergo, not public
Now, I haven't read the entire opinions, just snippets from those reporting on it.
@MBraedley Right, but the courts logic is that Aereo's usage of a hundred antennae in a datacenter, while a clever end run around those readings of the law, doesn't materially change the one-to-many nature of what they're actually doing. Fundamentally, they just built a new cable provider and, through the use of a clever gotcha vis-a-vis previous interpretations of the law, refused to abide by the existing statutes that govern cable providers.
The key distinction between Aereo and the Cablevision decision (which is what set up the 'separate transmitter' precedent), is that the cablevision decision applies to recordings of a signal that is also contemporaneously being broadcast into your home via the cable box.
The dissent is primarily a dissent based on liability, not on propriety.
If it's being distributed to paying customers, as far as I'm concerned, it's probably a public performance, legally speaking.
22:53
The biggest problem that I have with the decision is the "if it looks like a cable company, then it must be a cable company" opinion, despite the fact that, by definition (that cable companies carry, you know, cable), Aereo is not a cable company.
"Since Aereo looks like a cable company, we get to apply all this precedent that applies to cable companies, even though Aereo isn't actually a cable company."
@MBraedley The "It Looks Like A Cable Company" aspect is primarily based on what it does, not how it does it; the Copyright Act of 1972 was written when a particular technology was used to do a thing. The fact that a different technology is used to do the same thing doesn't make it suddenly legal. Wire fraud laws written for the telegraph apply to telephony. Etc. etc.
@LessPop_MoreFizz What it does is not provide cable channels!
@MBraedley Which has absolutely nothing to do with the 1976 copyright law.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Then you have to justify the application of precedent.
Which, AFAIK, wasn't done.
Or at least not properly
@MBraedley In 1976, 'cable tv' wasn't providing cable channels either.
The copyright law of 76 was primarily written in response to the earliest form of cable television, which was basically a giant antenna that received crystal clear broadcast quality (versus shitty rabbit ears), and wired it directly to subscribers homes for improved quality.
What the law of 76 established was a compulsory licensing regime wherein the cable companies had to pay for the right to retransmit in that manner.
And Aereo basically did an end run around that application of the law by using hundreds of antennae in a server farm, rather than one big antenna with a bunch of splitters.
23:00
See, that's some background that's, you know, important.
@MBraedley Which, if you'd bothered to read the arguments with any sort of detail or even just a modicum of trust that the broadcast actors weren't acting in bad faith, you might have noticed shows up in most of the more serious and in-depth documentation thereof.
It's not exact, but it's a decent analog to work with. They have a service that transmits television to many paying customers. By definition, that's in no way a private viewing. Whether or not they actually broadcast cable channels isn't relevant... what the puppet said. Sigh.
It still doesn't change the fact that the assenting opinion is utter crap and can have holes punched in it so big that an aircraft carrier can sail through it.
Aircraft carriers don't have sails. flees
@Unionhawk Not only is it a decent analog, but the retransmission clause specifically includes the phrase " “by means of any device or process.”" to allow for the forward movement of technology.
23:03
@Unionhawk As a contractor for the navy, I choose to keel haul you
@MBraedley The decision was specifically designed to be as narrow as possible because the court was terrified about the implications w/r/t cloud storage and secondary liability; they basically did the minimum they could to ensure that the broadcasters have a leg to stand on vs. Aereo as currently constructed and punted the rest in hopes that congress manages to function within the next 5 years and put something together that makes more sense. Which is... naive in a way...
but at the same time, I'd rather the court make that bigger decision five years from now than yesterday, so I'm more or less okay with the punt.
@LessPop_MoreFizz It's the fucking supreme court! They're supposed to make the big, broad decisions that are completely clear and bullet proof.
@MBraedley No. No they aren't always supposed to do that.
Spoken like a Canadian.
If their going to be narrow, then they have to be targeted, which they weren't.
It's all too wishy-washy in the language.
Anyways, once it installs, I'm going to play Asseto Corsa while drinking beer. We'll see if being drunk really does effect driving performance.
Oh wait, it's 4 gigs. That's going to take some time. Perhaps FEZ then
@LessPop_MoreFizz Haha, Congress functioning. That's a good joke.
23:15
@LessPop_MoreFizz They did so in the worst possible manner.
@Yuuki I did call it naive...
So at the end of the day Magical Diary isn't nearly as bad as I painted it in my head; another mind canon crushed. Analogue: A Hate Story and Don't Take It Personally are still better though.
@Frank I don't know that they did. The worst possible manner would have been for them to settle on a broad secondary liability interpretation that condemns all cloud storage services to infringement lawsuits until the end of time.
@LessPop_MoreFizz No, what they did is even worse; they came down with a ruling so wishy-washy, it's going to take years of litigation to test the bounds of the crap they call a ruling.
They very easily could have done that, and had quite a bit of legal rationale for doing so, whether that decision would have been 'right', it certainly could have been legally right in fairly broad terms.
@Frank No, that's... exactly what they intended to do.
23:17
@LessPop_MoreFizz They shouldn't even have bothered.
rather than make a broad ruling with potentially unknowable consequences, they created a very narrow ruling specific to a set of facts, to allow other narrow rulings to apply to other sets of facts.
Because now, it's a precedent to sue anything that could be construed as a cable company.
Which is, y'know, exactly what the court intended to do.
Whether it is actually a cable company or not.
And Fox has wasted no time at all to use it to attempt to kill Dish TV.
@Frank Aereo is very very very clearly a cable company as read under the 1976 law. They glommed onto a lower court ruling from about 5 years ago, which was about DVR systems, and tried to turn it into a loophole they could drive a truck through. The court closed that loophole. They didn't do anything further, because to do anything further would have been to establish broad precedent without a clear need for it.
23:20
Oh lol, this is rich
@LessPop_MoreFizz I disagree with your interpretation. Aereo was not a cable company.
Reading it as such means any company that does something that kinda sorta looks like a cable company is illegal.
@Frank As defined by the 1976 law, Aereo pretty clearly is doing all of the things a cable company did in 1976.
I have gotten an email on skype on how they're adjusting prices to match VAT. They blame it on VAT being complicated and hard and making it difficult to realize how much stuff really costs.
Regardless of what it does or not.
@Frank No, it doesn't mean that it's illegal. It means that if you retransmit, you have to pay.
23:21
This is 100% written by an American and just translated mindlessly to other languages - or better, cultures.
@LessPop_MoreFizz And it tied itself into knots in order to comply with all legalities.
Their solution was utter insanity.
Ugh. I'd love to argue with more Canadians about US law, but I'm off to enjoy paradise. I'll check in with you lot later.

@Chippies Not anymore, they don't.
