Actually a lot of linux distros have seen as high, if not higher levels of OS bloat as Windows

Anyway I think Vista gets a bad rap it doesn't deserve

It had issues but they were addressed pretty quickly

I did not downgrade back to XP after upgrading to Vista and tbh the only reason I upgraded to 7 was the awesome taskbar

other than that, I was content with Vista

7 was more lightweight than Vista though

I am not saying 7 wasn't good, just people overstated the jump. I'm glad MS was able to recover from that negative publicity though

@GodEmperorDune if you had a decent enough PC, the performance boost was maybe 10-15% at most

which is noticeable, but it was even less than that after the SP1

@Chippies it was noticeably faster and the UI was much more responsive

Vista was regularly beating XP in benchmarks after the early ones

I'm sure a lot of people also compared Vista on their older PCs to Win7 on a newer PC

Vista had good gaming performance, as long as you had enough ram

XP on 256 barely ran in my experience

my friend ran a WoW private server on 512mb with ~20 people at times

to be fair, I had a lot of useless junk disabled and I had to clean it all the time, due to only having 8gb of HDD space

I could say the same thing for you guys and Vista

@twobugs as I said, my Vista was just fine, but obviously required much more ram than XP

it utilized the ram better than XP, but the min req was higher

either way, Vista wasn't as bad as most people say it was

the problem was that it was a pretty big technological jump coming from XP and the hardware requirements matched that

With my GeForce GTX 970, I wanted to play Half-Life 2 again in 4k on a 1080p monitor. How would I do that? I have tried to adding custom resolutions in the NVIDIA control panel but I couldn't get 4k to work, but I did get 1440p to work but it looked blurry.

also, CRT's could do pretty high resolutions

Some engines also render particle effects at a lower resolution and then upscale them for speed, this would make them run at effectively original resolution

Yeah, I would just run with MSAAx8 (a 970 should easily be able to handle that) and be done with it.

(I mean, assuming they're normally rendered at a quarter)
