Q: Questions asking for cheats in games where the singleplayer also has multiplayer components

Nate KerkhofsWe have Where do we stand on cheating in single player games?, about cheating in singleplayer games (which says "cheating in singleplayer is fine") and How do we stand on cheats, in particularly for multiplayer games? (which says "cheating in multiplayer is deplorable"). However, some games that...

Q: Is It Possible To Sign Messi on Career mode With Man. City

XFazeXHello I have tried buying Messi and giving him 1.1 million wage a week but still wont join I am currently Man. City

For most cases, is hash comparison of two files a suitable method of determining whether said files are identical?

6:10 PM
@Yuuki yes
collisions are possible but they are an edge case

@Yuuki most compare tools i use don't even go that far by default. they do timestamp & filesize for basic, then binary for more robust

Two arbitrary files, I take it?
I usually only compare versions of the same/similar files

@GodEmperorDune I'm writing a basic music library manager and whenever you add a file/track to the library, I think I'm going to generate a hash to be used for comparisons just so I don't add the same file multiple times.

@Yuuki in that case: Excepting differing encodings =p

Since you'd be iterating through the entire library whenever you add a track, it'd be easier to do a simple hash/string comparison for each track rather than comparing the binary for each one.

6:16 PM
@Yuuki you might want to just pop up a confirmation "X looks like Y, are you sure you didn't add this already?"

Differing encodings would fail with a whole binary comparison =p

yeah you might be better off comparing track metadata instead

This kind of thing is the best: github.com/timmartin/libfooid

I agree, metadata makes the most sense. You'd detect and avoid the most collisions that way, I think.
If they try to add a track with no metadata call the user and idiot and close the program. Everyone wins!

Well, when adding a track, I was thinking about putting up a dialog that allows you to fill in metadata.

6:20 PM
@Yuuki that works for one by one adding but would be a pain in the ass for adding bulk files

Well, I'm just starting out so adding files one by one is the goal for now.
I'll handle bulk additions sometime later.

maybe you can accept the track into the library but put some sort of flag or question mark on it for "hey User you need to do something with this later"

There are probably ways to hash that stuff that would detect different encodings of the same song, like the stuff used to automatically identify songs or copyright enforcement on Youtube. But that might be far too complicated for this case

This kind of thing is the best: https://github.com/timmartin/libfooid

Meh, it's just something I decided to cobble together because it's still a few weeks until classes start and I got frustrated with adding music to my phone yesterday.

6:25 PM
@Yuuki maybe instead of doing all this checking when you add a file, you can run it on demand
and it scans the whole library for similar stuff

I love how our Subversion server stopped talking to our Active Directory server today or something... just dumps out "Password Mismatch" when anyone tries to log in using an AD account.
(dumps that to a log file that is)
So, how is everyone else's day going?

flawrJavaScript, 131238 bytes The naive approach turned out worse than expected. In hindsight I should have expected it. But I thought I'd share it anyway. Full code here. Idea: Iteratively escaping and adding the N-1, ... alert("14,alert(\"15, alert(\\\"Stop!\\\")\")")

@Powerlord looool

@Ohnana I ended up being the defacto Subversion admin and the people I need to ask what's going on are, of course, not here.

I love how when I use Tortoise SVN, it makes me enter my username and password about 4 times before letting me get latest

6:35 PM
@Powerlord i really want to laugh again but that's too evil for me

The Subversion to TFS migration was supposed to happen last week and relieve me of this burden, but the administrative guy who was supposed to do said migration was slacking and didn't do it yet.

:(

@Powerlord tfs ftw

@ardaozkal you're such a microsoft fanboi :p

@GodEmperorDune Well, tbh I am. I'm even listening to a webinar through Skype for Business right now. However, TFS is pretty neat.

6:41 PM
@ardaozkal i want to burn skype for business with napalm and thermite

I've never used Skype for business but the default Skype client is awful. One of the few pieces of software I've seen get worse with every update

@Ohnana Lync/SfB 2013? It can burn in hell. SfB 2016 is pretty neat though.

@ardaozkal if you are exclusively using microsoft stack and all the integrations, TFS can be very powerful. if not ... not so much
@twobugs what about itunes?

Never used iTunes

@GodEmperorDune not much of a software nor update, but steam sales get worse on every sale too.

6:45 PM
@ardaozkal part of that is that you've already bought what you want during a previous sale
and it tends to be the same titles on sale every time

I actually bought several games in the last sale

I did too

Even though I already have a ton of games

but It was nowhere near what I bought on previous sales.

Yeah, as @GodEmperorDune said, that's probably because you already own the games, not because the sales themselves are worse

6:46 PM
yawn

they should just put all games on sale and make everyone happy

mah answers, no one accepts them :(

most of the stuff i wanted to buy during 2015 winter sale i found out was already in my library from the 2014 sale

lol
How we doing everyone?

@Dragonrage %30 off in everything would be possible

6:47 PM
I think there have been some crappy Steam sales but the winter 2015 one was fine
I ended up spending some $$$$

@djsmiley2k no one answers my questions... oh wait

@ardaozkal Docker is getting quite popular

6:49 PM
@NewlyOpenedProposalsforEntertainment how is this not overlapping with on SO?

@Dragonrage Just go with @fbueckert's strategy and downvote everything ever.
I bet he'd downvote some of his own stuff if he could.

Oh i just thought of a good strategy for getting badges for helpful flags
I'll just go make a bunch of bad questions and then flag them.

@Dragonrage Cast helpful flags?

@Dragonrage I think that won't actually work

user15026
@Dragonrage Do not do this thing.

user15026
6:53 PM
It will likely end in sadness and some time out for you.

@murgatroid99 It might, but it'll probably also result in a ban.

It was a joke.

@Arperum Well, yes, you'll definitely get a ban for getting a bunch of low-quality posts deleted by others
But can you actually get helpful flags on your own posts?

@Dragonrage there is a hidden tag on Bridge topics all the time.

6:55 PM
@ardaozkal Also, we haven't yet invented a sarcasm font

Q: Actor playing Agent Carter in The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Live Action Trailer

JonBonJoviAs the title says, I'm looking for the name of the actor playing Agent Carter in The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Live Action trailer. His face can best be seen at about 1:58 https://youtu.be/cnjaHdCu0Vk?t=1m58s Any help would be appreciated

@murgatroid99 I don't know, I'd say test it, but I don't know a situation where it would be needed.

Does this fall under GAME-ID?

user15026
That and trust me anything you can think of even as a joke, people have tried for real, and really, it's a bad idea.

Basically, it's not good to joke about gaming the site mechanics.

6:56 PM
@djsmiley2k They're not asking to identify a game

@djsmiley2k Never knew an actor was a game.

user15026
@twobugs Pretty much, because we tend to assume people will try anything.

I don't think that question counts as Game Identification, but I also think it has almost no bearing on actual gaming

it's id'ing someone in a trailer, for a game

6:57 PM
how about wingdings for sarcasm

is the game even out?

Yeah, I think it came out a while ago

@Dragonrage comic sans

wingdings is more readable though

ty @twobugs :D

6:58 PM
I'm not sure if it's on topic though, actors are not exactly our expertise thing.

yah, film thing
:/

That sounds more like a movies thing.

We definitely have other questions about identifying things within known games

I flagged as GameID as I couldn't figure what else :/

But if that's not a game at all, then I don't think it's on topic here

6:58 PM
@murgatroid99 once again, this isn't IN the game.
lol ok it's not Game ID

@murgatroid99 Yea, but for finding an actor I think the movies se might be better?

I used my super downvote!
