@Rapitor He won't get it.

@fredley I'm not a mod, but I don't think that's necessary.

@Fluttershy I know, but the fact remains that there is still a chance

@GnomeSlice I tried to ban my sock for a million years and it...broke chat

Oh, your sock.

Jin
@MadScientist we're not adding new features atm if that's what you mean.

3:01 PM
Yeah, the longest possible chat ban is ~1833 years

@fredley That's so helpful to know.

Jin
@Frank weird. i can't reproduce that..
@Frank what browser/ver/os are you using?

@Jin You really should add a feature to allow banning for longer than ~1833 years
I mean, where's the point in banning someone for only ~1833 years!

3:05 PM
@KevinvanderVelden "Let this ban be upon you, and upon your children, and upon your children's children."

Q: Does %EXP and % Magic Find from my follower count towards my character?

ChaseCIf I equip a % EXP bonus or % Magic Find item to my follower, does it count towards my character? Would inserting a Gem of Ease in my follower's jewelry count towards my exp?

@fredley Ooh, just allow bans for a number of generations

@Jin Firefox 36.0.1, Windows 7.
It hides the negative post, but if you move the box over top a non-negative one, you can see it, no problem.

@Frank which page is that one? just a regular question page and happens when you flag?

Q: PS3 - PS4 co-operative play

WillMy friend has himself a PS4 but I'm still stuck with my PS3 till i win the lottery, does anyone know if there are any titles that allow PS3 - PS4 co-op or pvp? Apparently it was "technically" possible on Destiny but Bungie just decided not to to keep pvp fair which really sucks. Or does anyone kn...

3:13 PM
@Jin Yep. I can give you a link to the post.

A: Someone continuously down-voting my questions

ApurvaSo I cannot get any help!!? He's not gonna stop down voting my question. If he down votes all my questions he will start down voting my answers and all I can do is just sit and watch?

The flagging dialog also seems to have the wrong z position in that case, behind the editor

@Yuuki So something with baby punching is the theme?

@KevinvanderVelden Hmm... Song of the Sea may or may not be the frontrunner for that, as it's the only one I see with babies.
Okay, maybe Princess Kaguya too.

Jin
@MadScientist i noticed that too. we're looking into this.

3:19 PM
I was useful! Yay!

Also, I believe I will be starting my next kit this week.
LEDs aside, it will still have a gorgeous paint job.

3:33 PM
@StrixVaria: I just read two chapters on break.

@Wipqozn heheh
Good book :D

@KevinvanderVelden It is. I stopped reading ti when MH4U came out, because I'm amonster.

@Wipqozn I want the next book already.

@Frank I still need to finish this one.

3:35 PM
@Wipqozn that is a pretty horrible thing to do
@Wipqozn that's your fault. GIVE ME THE NEXT BOOK D:

Speaking of Monster Hunter, I might actually get a chance to play it tonight.

Just remember: The solution to waiting for more books in series is to just read more books.
@Frank Oh cool

This weekend was completely filled.

@Wipqozn that is a solution I approve of

user15026
I wonder if anyone will let me know if I am working tomorrow. I bet they'll call like when I am at my interview or something.

user15026
3:37 PM
@wipqozn the solution is only good when you can acquire more books.

user15026
That said, I should be getting my ereader back today so I can go back to my Discworld reading after I finish Lackey's Arrows of the Queen trilogy again.

I've really been wanting Mercedes Lackey to continue the Crown of Vengeance series.
I love the lore of that universe, with the Wild magic, Knight-Mages, and all of it. It's just so good.
Speaking of, I've been meaning to re-read those books.

@AshleyNunn You don't count. You're a robot designed for reading books.

@Frank I got a great deal on a book on clearance at Barnes and Noble the other day

@SaintWacko I randomly hit up Chapters on Saturday, after going out for steak with my girlfriend. She made a comment that it looked like it was still open, so I'm like, "Really? Let's go!"

3:47 PM
The first five John Carter books in one hardcover volume
$8
I've been wanting to read them

@SaintWacko I...don't believe I've heard of this series.

@Frank LadyWacko and I had our two year dating anniversary on Saturday, and we went to Gardner's (local used book store) before dinner

Also, I just finished The Given Sacrifice.

@Frank Edgar Rice Burroughs

@SaintWacko Oh, right. That's his Man on Mars series, right?

3:48 PM
@SaintWacko didn't they make a movie from that?

Very classic series
John Carter of Mars

@KevinvanderVelden Yes and it was awesome

@KevinvanderVelden Yes, apparently it wasn't very good

Heinlein references John Carter a lot

3:49 PM
I like @GnomeSlice and @SaintWacko's answers

I've been wanting to read it for a long time
@KevinvanderVelden What?

Oooo, that's a cool tattoo (cc @spugsley)

Q: How Do I Use Redstone Comparators in Minecraft

John HickoxI didn't have a computer, and because of that I missed the updates, one of the most things i'm confused about is redstone comparators. -How do I use them? -What can I use them for?

3:50 PM
Haha

SUCH DELAYED GRATIFICATION

@Yuuki that is really well done, it must have taken days of actual work

I haven't actually seen it

@Yuuki I don't know much about tattoos, but won't a really fine design like that blur over time?

@SaintWacko Indeed.
Heinlein has a lot of character inter-mingling, though.

3:51 PM
@fredley probably, hmm

@Frank Why? O_o

It'll take years though

@Fluttershy Straight from Wikipedia.

@Frank That's true
Especially The Number of the Beast
Such a good book

@Frank I must be looking at a different Wikipedia page then, because it's not.

3:52 PM
@Fluttershy Er? He skipped a small section, but otherwise, it's a word for word pull.

@Frank That's not what word for word means.
He made suitable edits to it, so it's not a direct copy.

@Fluttershy The only edit he made was removing a short section.
It still requires attribution.
Oh, he removed the part about Legend of Zelda as well.

He took two sentences from the wikipedia entry, looks like

Hmm. Now we're getting into slightly iffy territory.

@SaintWacko Which, in the past, has been suitable to take it from the straight copy/paste area and into something a bit more grey, unless I'm misremembering.

Still, there's nothing original there. It's still directly pulled from Wikipedia, without attribution.

@Frank Except that by making the edits made, it became original. Again, I could be remembering incorrectly.

@Yuuki so much meat... so hungry now

Okay, another reason to love SwiftKey - I threw Dutch in as one of my active languages (because I am using Duolingo on my phone) and it seamlessly switches between languages without me having to do anything other than starting to type words in whatever language.

@AshleyNunn That sounds interesting.

user15026
I suspect this will not be as easy with a Cyrillic keyboard to swap to, but it's pretty great.

4:04 PM
I wonder how they pull it off with Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Japanese.

@AshleyNunn yay dutch! Drunken germanenglish!

user15026
@Yuuki no idea if they do or not, I have just used it with two languages that both use Latin characters.

@AshleyNunn Well, you can use Latin characters for Chinese with pinyin.

user15026
@KevinvanderVelden my family's Dutch on my mom's side, and my grandma speaks more and more Dutch as she gets older, so I keep wanting to learn.

I was wondering how SwiftKey would decide between using Simplified and Traditional.
Which have the same pinyin but slightly (some more than slightly) different characters.

4:06 PM
@AshleyNunn well, there's plenty of people here to poke if you have questions

user15026
@Yuuki no idea if it would, and it isn't something I can really test, because I wouldn't know what was going on

user15026
@KevinvanderVelden right now the difference between je/jij and so on is confusing me.

And Japanese has the same characters (kanji) as Traditional but different romanizations.

user15026
I know I learned this stuff in my university Dutch classes but I forget it all.

For example, this is the Simplified character for "horse" - 马
And traditional - 馬
Pinyin for both is "ma".
For those who only see boxes, here's an image:
Traditional on the left, Simplified on the right.

4:09 PM
@AshleyNunn there generally isn't in je/jij, they can usually be used interchangeably.

user15026
Okay, because Duolingo is like "Haha you picked wrong" and I am trying to figure out if there is a difference.

Japanese kanji for horse is the Traditional character but with the romanization as "uma".

There is in some cases

@Yuuki that looks like it takes a very long time to write

@Rapitor There's a reason why we shifted to Simplified.
Some Traditional characters can take a loooong time to write.

4:11 PM
even simplified looks like much

@Rapitor Three strokes (I think). Writing horse takes five.

Pillars of Eternity in 3 days. I am so excite.

We have something called full pronouns (jij) and reduced pronounced (je), reduced is generally less formal

@JasonBerkan Six actually, if you use two strokes like me to write 'h'.

@JasonBerkan yeah. it probably is just because I'm used to this language

4:12 PM
Here are some big differences between Simplified and Traditional.

And the full pronouns jij, jou, jouw (2nd person, singular) and jullie (2nd person, plural) all are reduced to je
And I'm probably confusing you more than helping you

user15026
@KevinvanderVelden Oh well that's just confusing, haha

But this is atypical.

If you have a math question I can explain better :D

user15026
@KevinvanderVelden I will have to check the Duolingo site, they usually have more explanation stuff that you don't see on the app.

4:14 PM
@Yuuki why were they so fancy to begin with?

@MattGiltaji Originally evolved from pictures, basically.

@Yuuki horse kinda looks like a horse, i guess

@MattGiltaji This is turtle - 龜
That's a bit small to distinguish...

@Yuuki that doesn't look like @Wipqozn at all

4:16 PM
@Yuuki that's a really nice looking T

Jin
@Yuuki traditional ftw

And this is Simplified just for comparison.

@Fluttershy I don't think removing text removes the need for attribution. But, like you, I think it's a fuzzy area. I'll see what I can find.

@Jin Traditional does look better for calligraphy, but it's a PITA on your hand.

Jin
4:18 PM
@Yuuki it is.
i actually learned traditional after I left mainland china. because most Chinese newspapers and magazines in the US are from HK or Taiwan
I can't go back to writing simplified.. they just seem so ugly

@Yuuki i think all calligraphy is a pita on the hands... that's why it stands out

Hi.

I used to play a game on my grandfather's PC in 1995 - 2000 and the only thing I can remember about it was that there was a cartoony-looking archaeologist standing in a corridor full of doors and behind each door was, I guess, some kind of level, perhaps puzzles, as if it were a kid's game.

I know it's vague but this has been bugging me for a VERY long time so I'm really hoping that someone can help with this.

Thanks.

@Jin How many characters do you know?

Jin
@fredley hmm it's hard to say... most of the common ones i guess?

Pita or pitta (/ˈpɪtə/ or US /ˈpiːtə/) is a soft, slightly leavened flatbread baked from wheat flour. It is used in many Mediterranean, Balkan and Middle Eastern cuisines and resembles other slightly leavened flatbreads such as Iranian nan-e barbari, South Asian flatbreads and Central Asian naan, and pizza crust. == Etymology == The first known mention of the word in English was in 1936. The English word is borrowed from one or more of Modern Hebrew pittāh, Modern Greek πίτα, and perhaps Balkan languages. These all probably come from the Byzantine Greek πίτα 'bread, cake, pie, pitta' (attested...

4:20 PM
@Jin Completely unrelated: Do you know of the Gundam Breaker series of games?

@SaintWacko A hand sandwich, if you will.

@mythofechelon sounds a little familiar, do you remember anything else?

@Jin I have no idea by the way, even understanding a handful of characters like that seems unimaginably difficult

Jin
@Frank i know of it, never played

@SaintWacko don't mock my laziness for capitalizing

4:21 PM
@Jin I find I'm really enjoying the latest one, even if I can't understand a single word of it.

@fredley Chinese is fairly systematic, if you don't know a character, it can be fairly easy to guess its meaning.

@SaintWacko great, now I want to eat shoarma

Jin
@Yuuki where are you from?

It's also super awesome at helping figure out actual kitbashes.

@Jin Nanjing.
It really depends though and you probably won't be able to guess much.

Jin
4:22 PM
@Yuuki 沈阳 here

@Yuuki Wow

Jin
@fredley it's similar in English too, if you see a word you don't know, but know the Latin/Greek prefix and sufix you may be able to guess the meaning of the word

@fredley Chinese has something called "radicals", which are basically our analogues for root words and/or -fixes.

@Rapitor Nothing else, I'm afraid. I was very young.

@Jin I guess
@Yuuki That's so radical

Q: What is this archeology PC game?

mythofechelonI used to play a game on my grandfather's PC in 1995 - 2000 and the only thing I can remember about it was that there was a cartoony-looking archaeologist standing in a corridor full of doors and behind each door was, I guess, some kind of level, perhaps puzzles, as if it were a kid's game. I kn...

@Lazers Yes, as you can see I was referred here.

@fredley You're radical.... radicool!

Jin
@Yuuki jin = 今

@Wipqozn ...

@mythofechelon lazers has a bit of a lag

4:25 PM
@Wipqozn I've never seen that word before, so I have no idea what it means

@fredley oh no, what are the latin roots?!

@mythofechelon Damn it, now I want to play the african alphabet puzzle game

@MattGiltaji Something circumperambulatory

I can't remember the name.

@mythofechelon lazers is a sentient robot, it won't respond, that said. I can't really place what you are looking for. i don't know too many old PC games, but I would guess try going for the most famous ones like monkey island?

4:26 PM
@MattGiltaji Rad- is the Latin root meaning "radish" and cal means "calzone pizza". So, "radical" means "a radish calzone".

We have question or two on the site about it, though.

user15026
@wipqozn African alphabet puzzle game?

@AshleyNunn Yes. You were some bald dude, and you went around collecting letters, and you took aa raft to get to the next level.

@Rapitor Ah. I did not know that! I'm watching a gameplay video of The Secret of Monkey Island now but I really don't think it's that. It was much simpler and I believe that corridor was the main menu, so to speak.

user15026
@mythofechelon it feels similar to the Dr Brain games, but I could be completely wrong.

user15026
4:29 PM
@wipqozn I see.

Jin
is anyone here playing WoW still????

@AshleyNunn That (abandonia.com/files/games/49/Castle%20of%20Dr.%20Brain_7.jpg) is evocative but I recall the style to be much more Horizon Line Perspective style of corridor.
@AshleyNunn Also, I believe it was almost perfectly symmetrical with the archeologist leaning in on one side.

@Lazers Oh man. That just poked some part of my brain and now I need to know the answer too

user15026
@mythofechelon not sure then. Sorry. :(

I am ready for Avengers 2. READY, I SAY

@Sterno when does it come out?

Early May I think

yesterday, by Unionhawk
Wat wat = new Wat();

Things don't get weird until you call Wat.Wat(wat);

Spelling Jungle, also known as Yobi's Basic Spelling Tricks is an educational adventure game created by Bright Star Technology and released by Sierra in 1993 for both Windows and Macintosh PCs. The program is designed to help strengthen reading, spelling, and logic skills in children ages 7–10. The objective of Spelling Jungle is to paddle a raft up the river and stopping the flooding at its source. The player must make frequent stops in his journey and complete puzzles, where the player must walk over letter tiles in order to spell out a certain word, avoiding enemies like lions, alligators, or...

@Wipqozn Did it an unnecessary U's to "color?"

@Sterno Probably not

Is it time to go home yet?

4:42 PM
So will any of you other nerds be playing Pillars of Eternity, or will I just be talking to myself and @LessPop_MoreFizz in here about how awesome it is?

@Powerlord Yes.
What
Is this real life

@Unionhawk must mine a lot of bitcoins

@GnomeSlice They're only giving away 5 copies.

How does bitcoins.SE have 8500 questions?

@Fluttershy Oh, 10 ways to enter
my bad
yeah you're right

4:46 PM
@Sterno How many of those 8500 questions involve avoiding being scammed?

@Powerlord too lazy to analyze
Remember that time I got @Wipqozn to play Bad Rats?

Speaking of bitcoins, does anyone know what it is that people are actually mining for? Like, folding@home does calculations for cancer stuff and whatnot, but what's the purpose of bitcoin mining?

So, only 9 more days until the SE staff reveal that the Lifehacks site was a joke. Right? RIGHT?

@Sterno Pull the number out of a hat, that seems appropriate for bitcoin
@Chippies bitcoin is the purpose of bitcoin mining
The calculations involved secure and prove the transactions

@KevinvanderVelden That is what I'm hoping is not the correct answer

4:48 PM
@Chippies Sorry, it is

So, bitcoin mining is basically a waste of energy for arbitrary currency?

Yes

That seems like a horrible idea
how many glaciers are being melted a day because someone is mining bitcoins?

@Chippies all of them

@MattGiltaji all of them every day, got it!

4:50 PM
@Sterno Yes.

Hmm, when did SO get rid of the homework tag?

Om nom nom little tiny tentacles

@Sterno Pillrs is on my radar, but I doubt I'llbe picking it up. Not anytime soon, anyways.
I still need to go back and finish Dragon Age 2....

@SaintWacko Just don't let them drink toxic sludge.

4:51 PM
I don't understand how come none of the green life activists haven't boycotted bitcoins yet

> It’s like a bitcoin, but with butts instead.

I liked Tacocoin, whose sole goal as a digital currency was to be exchangeable for a taco.

@Unionhawk Do you insert them in the butt crack to pay for things?

@MadMAxJr I would support this currency.

4:53 PM
@MadMAxJr tacos are cheap though

I think I've got 300k dogecoin sitting around, but mostly that was because I enjoyed watching Nascar fans going, "Da hell is a dog-coin?" after seeing Josh Wise race the Dogecar.

That's very similar to what I'm eating right now

No, /r/buttcoin is all about laughing at /r/bitcoin and bitcoin in general

It's delicious

@SaintWacko Stop getting in on @Yuuki's turf.
You monster.

4:53 PM
@MadMAxJr how much is that in real money?

Except what I'm eating also has in shell mussels

I think like $23.

I love seafood
Why is calamari so delicious?

No, tentacle beasts are not food.

Yes they are
They are delicious food

4:55 PM
Interesting, I think my employer is blackholing traffic to AlliedModders now.

Although LadyWacko agrees with you

Sane people would

@Sterno May 1.
I'm not quite ready yet; have two more movies to watch.

Pillars of Eternity tomorrow! Woo! :D
