5:00 PM
I expect Google Fiber to have already put down fiber on Mars.
Honestly, all I want out of a trip to Mars is for us to go dust off the various rovers, say "Good Boy", and either get them rolling again, or bring them home.

@MadMAxJr the mars rovers have a better internet connection than my workplace

Yeah but the lag time is atrocious.

@MattGiltaji the mars rovers don't have any internet connection

Comcast regrets to inform you that Mars is outside our service area.

@murgatroid99 they must be using something to send the data back to JPL and NASA
all those pretty pics

5:05 PM
It's radio.

FDL 56M
VULTURE 5M

@OrigamiRobot :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

CLAIM SOME RANDOS

@MadMAxJr you rejoice
Glad that you don't have to deal with comcast =p

50M is niiiiice
5M on vulture is tempting

5:06 PM
@MattGiltaji That's direct radio transmissions

@Unionhawk INDEED

> The data rate direct-to-Earth varies from about 12,000 bits per second to 3,500 bits per second (roughly a third as fast as a standard home modem).

Americans and internet ... You people invented the damn thing, but got the slowest and most expensive access to it :-/

I mean, it's basically a heavier Eagle

@OrigamiRobot now that is more like it.

5:08 PM
50M seems like a very reasonable price point for FDL to me

THAT'S SO LOOOOOOW

@Carpetsmoker it has hardly been upgraded since they invented it, which is why it's so crappy

@MattGiltaji I really hope your workplace Internet isn't worse than that

We'll see especially with increased income

ED really is doing things right to pull me away from MH4U...

5:09 PM
We gave money to ISPs to lay fiber to improve US internet speeds. Some got started, abandoned it, kept the money.

THE ONLY THING KEEPING ME AWAY FROM THE VULTURE IS THE HARDPOINTS

Yes

I'D RUN 2x C3 BEAMS

2 hardpoints is very very meh

Google is slooooowly going "Hey guyyyyyys.. Guess what I've got?" with their fiber internet

5:09 PM
how much was fed dropship dropped to?

AND THAT DOESN'T SUPER EXCITE ME

I know they're large hardpoints, but it's still meh

@Rapitor 20M

@OrigamiRobot I read "stimulate" here...

@OrigamiRobot So, clipper price then

5:10 PM
wasn't it that originally..?

@Fluttershy I COULD PROBABLY ADAPT TO THAT

@Rapitor Was 36

Yeah, 37

@OrigamiRobot surprised this hasn't been mod-abused to say "STIMULATE"

5:11 PM
well then. no wonder I ignored it and set my sights on clipper.

FDL at 50 puts that at around Python price range

@Batophobia I WOULD CONSIDER THAT ACTUAL ABUSE IN A NON-JOKING SENSE
SOOOOO, I MIGHT WANT A DROPSHIP
WISH I'D FLOWN ONE IN THE BETA

@OrigamiRobot does it come with space marines?

dropship just kind of looks awkward to fly

Ugh.

5:14 PM
@OrigamiRobot 4 medium and a large... doesn't sound bad from a hardpoints standpoint

@Unionhawk THAT'S WHAT I'D TREAT THE FDL AS

I just noticed I'm two episodes behind on Sailor Moon Crystal.

I'm not sure about the positioning on those points though, it seems fairly easy to get into a dropship's blind spot

Oh, does anyone want a free copy of Assassin's Creed III by the way? I have a giftable one on Steam that I don't need.

I DON'T CARE FOR ANY OF THE C4 OPTIONS
@TimStone IS THAT THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION ONE?

5:15 PM
Yeah

MAYBE
LEMME CHECK SOMETHING
HOW WOULD YOU COMPARE IT TO THE GAMES THAT CAME BEFORE IT?

@OrigamiRobot i found tree running and hunting pretty fun, pirate ship missions interesting (though controls are clunky), overall story not that great

@MattGiltaji WASN'T THE PIRATE ONE AFTER 3?

@OrigamiRobot I think this is the one where Desmond dies so you'd probably like it best of all.

@OrigamiRobot the pirate one(4) is all the good parts of 3 without the bloat

5:20 PM
@OrigamiRobot There's a naval bit in III as well, though the controls in IV were obviously beter.

@OrigamiRobot my comp can't run that one, but this does have a pirate ship

@Rapitor @TimStone CONFIRM?

if you've played 4, 3 will seem pretty mediocre

I like both 3 and 4, to be honest.

@Rapitor I HAVEN'T, AND THIS IS FREE

5:21 PM
then go for it

I'LL SAY IF YOU CAN'T FIND SOMEONE WHO IS EXCITED TO TAKE IT, I WILL
I'LL CERTAINLY PLAY IT, BUT I'M NOT SUPER EAGER TO DO SO

mod abuses for future eyeballs

> "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." — Terry Pratchett

@fredley It's rather short, but yes, he'll be warm for the rest of it, indeed.

@Frank that's the joke

5:29 PM
@murgatroid99 I'M EXPLAINING IT, JEEZ

SHIELD BOOSTERS ARE UTILITY MOUNTS?
Oh man

@Frank E.B. White — 'Explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog. You understand it better but the frog dies in the process.'

Then we have both a burnt dead man, and a dead frog.
And everyone was happy.

@OrigamiRobot a large beam?

5:31 PM
Beams are the best at shield destruction

@Android people:

@Rapitor YES, BEAMS ARE GOOD NOW

why not cannon? or something to wreck hulls

March 19

5:31 PM
@murgatroid99 CC @StrixVaria

@OrigamiRobot Technically, C2 and above beams were always good

@Rapitor CANNONS SUCK

It's just C1 that was lazy

TOO SLOW TO EVER HIT

i find shields to be least problematic, hulls on the other hand

5:32 PM
Hull can be annoying, but once you have shields down, typically your opponent goes into panic escape mode. Until then, it's attack

@murgatroid99 The joke here is that explaining joke ruins it.

1.5km distance and cannons destroy. i thought about trying frag cannons because i like to brawl at 750m or less.

@Rapitor JUST TARGET POWERPLANT

@OrigamiRobot Do you know if KWS info is shared with wingmates? I should think it would be

@Wipqozn That wasn't a joke. It was an analogy

5:33 PM
UNSURE

Science may be required

@Unionhawk tested last night with friend, they are not

Curses

@murgatroid99 NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE

5:34 PM
might be a fix in this patch?
it sounds like it should be a thing

@murgatroid99 The joke here is that what you quoted wasn't a joke, but I said I was,

It should, for sure

Looks like factorio, but in a space sandbox

Don't think it is

k, I'll just throw this site in here and stop linking to stuff

5:36 PM
@murgatroid99 This is funny because it explains how explaining a joke ruins the humor of the joke by comparing it to something else with similar properties. Specifically, it holds off on showing exactly how they're similar until an unexpected phrase at the end, allowing the reader to draw his own conclusion.

cc @StrixVaria
this is really well done

@murgatroid99 Do people actually dissect live frogs?

> Tactical RPGs are awesome! You carefully plot out movement, work to flank enemies and chain attacks, spend time thinking about using the perfect attack, support or defensive ability! And then after a successful combat mission, you come back to your base of operations, chat for a bit with your 10 other psychically gifted allies, and then doom one of them to be erased from existence.

@Chippies Psychopaths.

> That’s right, there are traitors in your midst, and the only way to suss them out is to establish bonds within the group of warriors — the only group capable of preventing the world from being obliterated at the hands of the evil extra-terrestrial being literally called “The End.” After using your psychic powers to rifle through your allies’ minds, there’s a short trial and then the one found guilty of being a traitor is erased.
> Well the worst part is that you won’t find out until the final battle with The End - if any in your party left are traitors, they’ll turn on you, making the battle that much harder. Oh, and because we couldn’t make it that easy, traitors are chosen at random for each playthrough. Good luck!
That sounds pretty awesome.
If a bit depressing.

5:41 PM
@StrixVaria the quote implied that the frog was alive, and I've never had to dissect one myself (is that an American thing?)

@Chippies I think that might actually be a thing, but I've never done it myself

@Chippies In the olden days. Remember ET?

i wish the wiki (or something) showed hardpoint locations on ships... @OrigamiRobot @Unionhawk know of one?

I'm tempted to pre-order Flamberge

Negative

5:42 PM
@JasonBerkan I'm not actually sure if I've ever watched ET from start to finish and if I did, I was quite little back then

@Chippies I was present for some dissections, but never participated. All subjects were dead.

@Rapitor I AM TRYING TO FIND THE EXACT SAME THING

@Chippies I don't think anyone does live animals anymore, but even dissections of dead animals is not something that happens in school here in Germany. In university, yes, but it doesn't really make much sense in school

@JasonBerkan oh yeah, I have seen that scene by itself at some point

It'd definitely be nice to know from both a purchase and a defending standpoint

where hardpoints are will definitely determine what i can put on it..

@MadScientist I'd imagine dissecting live animals would be met with a lot of negative press nowadays and would be shut down pretty quickly

Like, if dropship has hardpoints on the bottom, fly above it so it has to pitch up to try to hit you and whatnot

Crap. 1982. And I remember watching that movie.

5:45 PM
@Chippies dissecting dead animals was debated at my school
we ended up dissecting a pickle.

We dissected a dead frog in Grade 7.

@Rapitor that's... what, why, what did you learn from it?

pickles have seeds.

@Rapitor yeah, but were pickles like, really rare in your area? Wouldn't you know that without having to dissect one?

@Chippies Floridian education system

5:46 PM
I've dissected a few animals in first semester, where I think it makes sense. But I don't think the use of animals is justified in school where most people are probably not all that interested

nothing made sense

I've only watched ET in full once
I should watch it again

@Unionhawk IT COULD JUST ROLL

Meh true

our state test (FCAT), had a specific math question that made me laugh so hard I got in trouble. "What would you use to measure the length of an alligator?" A. Ruler, B. carton of milk, C. Scale, D. a small rock, E. All of the above (all questions had all of the above as a choice)

5:48 PM
@JasonBerkan I DISSECTED A FROG AND A WORM

You know what I mean, though, how viper's hardpoints require you to aim above a ship and face in a certain manner to hit effectively

Steam doesn't want you to leave your PC anymore

@OrigamiRobot I did this + a cow's eyeball

MASTER ANACONDA

NOICE

5:51 PM
V. NOICE

Even split 4 ways that's 65k

CONFIRMED NOICE

@OrigamiRobot my anaconda don't

WTB COMBAT BOND INFO

much noice.

5:53 PM
> “It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. That is true, it's called Life.” ― Terry Pratchett

@Unionhawk like i said, about the same pre-wings. i wonder if they know what this will mean tho... people are just going to keep lone-wolfing

I can't even imagine how that works
12 sided controller that somehow reads hand movements?

Really, they want to make combat more viable

> “Time is a drug. Too much of it kills you.” ― Terry Pratchett

Right now, as it stands now, if you want to make credits fast, you get into trade.
Maybe possibly not with these changes we'll see

5:56 PM
yeah. but thats because trade is boring

Boring is not and should not be a balance mechanism

if it wasn't good money it wouldn't be done

@Rapitor YES, BUT YOU'D STILL KILL IT SO MUCH FASTER AND WITH MUCH LESS DAMAGE TO YOUR OWN SHIP

Exactly this
Plus, NPC wings are a (formalized) thing

SO YOUR INCOME/HR IS STILL INCREASING

5:58 PM
I just preordered Flamberge

DEFINITELY GOING TO FOUNDERS WORLD TO PICK UP A VULTURE
DEFINITELY MAYBE

Now I want to go home and play

It reminds me of Frozen Synapse
with a fantasy setting
and delicious pixels

did either of you figure out what trade dividends are?

@Rapitor 5%
THEY SAID IN THE BETA NOTES

6:04 PM
5% of what?

OF WHATEVER YOUR WINGMATES SELL

oh?

JUST EXTRA, NOT TAKEN FROM THE SELLER

Neat

hm. so wing trading is also good. as long as everyone works hard, your overall profits could increase quite a bit

6:06 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz how do I open the folder location of some music from itunes.

> “The whole of life is just like watching a film. Only it's as though you always get in ten minutes after the big picture has started, and no-one will tell you the plot, so you have to work it out all yourself from the clues.”
― Terry Pratchett

I finally reinstalled it and it somehow already knows where all my music is, so I'm trying to see if it has made copies of it all or something
oh wait
I think that's just the shit I bought on itunes
@LessPop_MoreFizz follow up, how do I tell itunes where all of my music is

@fredley Such a brilliant author. He will be greatly missed :(

I can't believe there aren't more starred Pratchett quotes in the star list. I'm going to keep posting them until it's full.

@fredley I'll keep starring them

6:12 PM
> “Coffee is a way of stealing time that should by rights belong to your older self.” ― Terry Pratchett
3

@OrigamiRobot Vulture is a small ship, even. Did not know.

wait I think I got it

@Unionhawk aye

And if the shipyard is to be believed, dropship is not agile... so... there's that to consider.

> “It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. That is true, it's called Life.” - Terry Pratchett
5

6:15 PM
@SaintWacko inb4, but I'm still starring it
“Some things are fairly obvious when it's a seven-foot skeleton with a scythe telling you them” ― Terry Pratchett
5

@fredley Oh, I must have missed it

@Unionhawk it is box.

@LessPop_MoreFizz do you know how to add a folder to my library without itunes starting to play daft punk and not be pausable until the entire like 30 minute process is done

> “I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.” - Terry Pratchett

@GnomeSlice not use itunes.

6:17 PM
I need to use iTunes.
To put shit on my ipod
I guess I'm listening to daft punk then
ugh
Where is it even getting this playlist from

I have never had iTunes randomly start playing music when I imported music

It found a playlist file in discovery and started playing it
I found and deleted the playlist file and restarted it and now it's not playing
Until it finds the next one I guess

> "My name is immaterial," she said. "That's a pretty name," said Rincewind. ― Terry Pratchett

k we get it

I think I'm going to read Feet of Clay tonight
Maybe Thief of Time

6:22 PM
“...inside every old person is a young person wondering what happened.” - Terry Pratchett

@SaintWacko :(

I'm going to go back and reread them all after I finish Varley's Red Thunder series

yep, it just found a pendulum playlist and started playing that
this is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen
you can't interact with itunes either while it's scanning for music

Including Raising Steam, which I haven't actually read yet

> Over the door a motto in the ancient tongue of the city was now almost eroded by time and grime and lichen, but could just be made out:
> FABRICATI DIEM, PVNC
> It translated–according to Sergeant Colon, who had served in foreign parts and considered himself an expert on languages–as “To Protect and to Serve.”
@SaintWacko Raising Steam is alright. Quite a lot of it is very similar to Going Postal though
I think he was losing it a bit by then :(

6:25 PM
> “If you don't turn your life into a story, you just become a part of someone else's story.” - Terry Pratchett
@fredley Well I quite enjoy Going Postal, so that should be alright

@SaintWacko Yeah, Going Postal is great

@fredley Moist von Lipwig is awesome

@SaintWacko Agreed

> “Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?” - Terry Pratchett
8
Someone please pin that
That's perfect

NO, YOU MISSED THE CORRECT STAR

6:30 PM
And I'm done
I can't find one better than that

GOD YOU GUYS ARE SO BAD AT STARS

...
yep, you nailed it

Ugh

does anybody know how to turn the mini player in itunes back into full itunes

I NOMINATE @TimStone TO FIND OUT THE NEW COMBAT BOND RATES

6:36 PM
There's new rates?

Yes

mm

@GnomeSlice STEP 1: UNINSTALL ITUNES

@OrigamiRobot Thank you for the constructive input.
I need to use iTunes to put new shit on my iPod

ANY TIME

6:37 PM
As of 1.2 (or 1.1?) it depends on the class of ship you kill, as of 1.2.03 (today) it was increased

@GnomeSlice STEP 2: THROW OUT IPOD

@OrigamiRobot How about no
I love my ipod touch

IF YOU LOVE IT SO MUCH WHY DON'T YOU MARRY IT?
BOOM!
I STILL GOT IT

Oh, today my download rate is apparently 150 MB/s
Instead of 0.02

O_o
OMG STARS WERE CLEARED
CC @Arperum @KevinvanderVelden
RABBLE RABBLE AND THE SUCH

6:39 PM
Go away I'm making games

snuggles up close to @KevinvanderVelden

Go away I'm making playing games. <-- fixed that for you

@Powerlord actually no, I'm currently making games

@OrigamiRobot I was going to find out but apparently the Civil War in the system I'm in ended

6:41 PM
To no one's surprise, Google Code is closing.

@fredley do not want

@TimStone WHAT A GRAND TIME FOR PEACE!

> Stealing what? Money? From your bank account or coins/notes from your wallet? – kenorb 44 mins ago
oh boy

@OrigamiRobot Right? Bastards

@Powerlord yep

6:43 PM
@Powerlord Saw that earlier. Good riddance.

Whoops... gotta run. So I can turn around and wait in a waiting room at the doctors office.

Q: Show the direction of one-way roads

GaryIn Cities: Skylines, how do I easily show the direction of one-way roads? When I'm building a city and I want to use one-way roads, it's hard to spot from a distance what direction a road is going, unless I zoom in until I can see the arrows on the actual road itself. Or if I pay attention to t...

@Lazers I think zooming in is the only way possible.

@MBraedley I was about to answer by saying to look at the road arrows until I read his question closer.

6:54 PM
@StrixVaria I even clicked the link, knowing full well that it'd be blocked by the work filter, and then read the blurb.

@JasonBerkan lol

> What kind of evidence do you have? – kenorb 59 mins ago
in response to:
> How can I frame a ghost for murder?

I see a lot of the proposed questions on that are from you guys.

@Wipqozn "Definitely not the scientific kind"

If you think it's dumb you shouldn't go in and troll it for those who might actually be interested in the proposal.

6:57 PM
I've never seen the word "ufologist" so many times and I hate that I have seen it this much recently.

@GnomeSlice I don't just think it's dumb. I think it would be a detriment to the StackExchange network

that's an elitist mindset.

I'm a detriment to the stackexchange network
4
what's your point

@GnomeSlice I don't think trolling can be considering bad when the person you're trolling thinks your questions are good ideas.
2

@Rapitor So?

6:58 PM
@Wipqozn surely you're then trolling yourself.... as its your own time you're wasting...

@djsmiley2k I don't think it can be considered a waste of time when I find it hilarious.

If StackExchange puts "paranormal phenomena" on the same level as actual questions about real things, it's going to make us all look like gullible idiots

so, it's kind of wrong and ass-holeish to think that way. the only thing that could be "detrimental" to SE is if they started to allow porn and such. they would no longer be SFW.

@Wipqozn I'm pretty sure he doesn't. If you really believe that, I think you're the trollee here.
