Windows costs a lot when you have to build a PC on a budget. $100 for something I'm only going to use to game...no thanks :P

Oh, the base edition is the multiple version download. Which is for Standard and Pro non-VL (this shows on the key generation page)
OK, so 3 editions, N and non-N, and 2 languages is 12, so 2 bitnesses is 24...
@RPiAwesomeness I thought they lowered the price of Windows 8 to something like $40... was that only for a limited time or something?

@Yuuki What Launcher? There are a couple established launchersout there.

\o/

@Arperum AT Launcher.
They have a truly terrifying number of mods in this pack...

What pack?

2:05 PM
@Yuuki I think I've used that one before for one specific pack. But then again, I've used FTB and Tekkit too.

@Powerlord Yeah, I think that was a limited offer...not sure though...I should check

@Arperum Pretty sure CrackPack uses AT, off the top of my head

Not that I've bought Windows as a standalone license ever.
hides eyepatch and hook in a drawer

So one of the devs brought in a drone of his, and we were flying it around the office.
Don't tell HR. sshhhh.

Huh. Yogscast Complete is on AT. Could have sworn that was Technic launcher...
Also, there are entirely too many mod packs on AT. Holy crap.

A: What happens to excess happiness during a golden age?

Mad ScientistThe happiness accumulated during a Golden Age is completely wasted. It does not count towards the next Golden Age, it just vanishes (probably spent on steroids, the additional production has to come from somewhere). As far as I can tell, excess happiness during a Golden Age is mostly worthless, ...

It doesn't, so the effect is pretty mild
(assuming the effect is only in play during Golden Ages)

@PrivatePansy Which means it's not all that unbalanced.
Geez, has Civ 5 been out for four years already?

-75% unhappiness during a golden age wouldn't be unbalanced as much as it would be outright useless

@Unionhawk There is a social policy that adds excess happiness to Culture

@PrivatePansy Is negative unhappiness the same as positive happiness? I don't think it is...

Steam Sales spread culture, right? Right?

2:14 PM
I could be wrong.

@Frank Videogames are art, so yes!

I haven't played Civ V in ages
And I haven't played it extensively either
I don't think I've made it through a whole game

I'm super looking forward to Beyond Earth.

It is, in the sense that if your Happiness = Unhappiness, or close to it, which is usually the case in my games, -75% unhappiness is a pretty big bonus

I'm always like "I'm going to play Civ!" 2 minutes later "Bored!"

2:15 PM
@Unionhawk Since happiness and unhappiness directly offset each other, negative unhappiness would be a positive happiness.

-75% Unhappiness all the time would break the game, of course

In Civ IV, the "bored" stage inevitably ended with me going into the editor, giving myself all the nukes ever, and then blowing up everything.

@Unionhawk Tsk. Steam claims I'm approaching 400 hours of Civ V.

Good times.

2:17 PM
I know I've done that :D
It was actually on FreeCiv...but it's similar
From what I've seen, FreeCiv is a heckuva lot harder than regular Civ

@JasonBerkan It doesn't help that whenever something tries to use my integrated graphics while it's running, the game crashes to desktop without fail.

@Unionhawk That would make playing the game difficult.

@JasonBerkan Just slightly. Minuscule amount of hardness it would add

@JasonBerkan Yep. I can force the game to use discrete graphics, but Windows updates just destroy that.

2:21 PM
There was a bug in Civ V at one point, where Golden Ages didn't reduce the happiness counter back to zero, so after every GA, you were only a few turns away from another GA. That was, by far, the easiest game of Civ V I ever played.

:P Windows
lol
I am severely tempted to go to the local store and buy a $5 preloaded visa card (+$5 for Visa costs :P) and buy a couple of the humble bundle games. Namely, Mount & Blade

@PrivatePansy Morale of the story: The planet doesn't even notice.

In other news, I really need a new laptop battery, but at this point, this thing is running towards the end of its life cycle, so I'm pretty tempted to just say "screw it" and not.

@RPiAwesomeness Why not paypal?

@MartinSojka I think there's actual terrain deformation in the game, but with 2000+ nukes...

Q: Can I play Infamous First Light without spoiling the story of Second Son?

KodamaI have not played Second Son and know nothing about its story. I'm thinking about getting the standalone add-on First Light, but I was wondering if the stories of First Light and Second Son are completely separate or if First Light will contain spoilers to the story of Second Son. All I know is t...

@5pike I don't have a Paypal and also, I'd have to use my parents credit card to load the money on :P Also they don't exactly want me playing games....

@RPiAwesomeness Oh, I see. Well, I think paypal also works if you have a bank account.

Yeah...but again, they'd see the withdrawl... :P
They're kinda strict that way

Dammit, keep downloading, free Windows

@RPiAwesomeness Ok, now I get the whole problem. Yeah, a prepaid credit card would be a solution.

2:27 PM
I remember when buying prepaid cards was the solution to all my problems.

@Unionhawk :D

Hell, I remember buying Runescape memberships prepaid more than once.

@Unionhawk You using Dreamspark?

Yes, of course. The ECE department has premium, which means pretty much all Microsoft software for free.

I just wish it wasn't a $5/$6 fee just to load the stinkin money on in the first place.
@Unionhawk Nice. Wanna send me a copy? :D
Since I'm saving for my PC in the bank, I'm considering taking an extra $15/$20 out than I'm actually going to owe my parents and use that...
Oh balderdash. Why can't Cyber Monday hurry up and get here. I want components

2:30 PM
hey @RPiAwesomeness when's your birthday?
just a month will do

@Chippies June

ah

Just a month?

as a belated birthday gift, pick out a game or two from my spare key list and you can have the key

Oh, thanks :D
Dang, I've got such good friends
Holy crap. That's a lot.

2:32 PM
No problem, I have that list for occasions when I feel generous :D
yeah, that's mostly bundle repeats

Is the Company of Heroes game any good? I've keep seeing it pop up places

oh, those are DLCs, not the actual game :x
it's alright I guess, pretty difficult and very demanding on the PC

Does someone here play or like Killer Instinct soundtrack? :o

@Chippies Ah

@Fabián is that a game?

2:35 PM
@Chippies yup

ooh a SNES game, figured the name seemed familiar
listening to it now on youtube, lol :D

it's originally from the arcades though

ah

snes version is bad haha

was the soundtrack better on arcades?

2:36 PM
@Community certainly is busy bumping old threads today.

yup!

mkay, I guess I'll see if there's an arcade version of it
good stuff :)

as a matter of fact I was talking more about the soundtrack of the Killer Instinct released in 2013. Yet the old one doesn't stop to be good :P

oh, well, I can't read your mind, man :P

@Fabián KI Soundtrack is friggin amazing.

2:39 PM
@Chippies yea, I do recommend to hear the old ones, and then hear the ones from mick gordon (the one making the ones for KI 2013)

the new ones certainly sound more modern (duh)

@Chippies Is Guacamelee! any good?

@RPiAwesomeness It's been in my backlog forever now, but I believe it's amazing
a controller is very recommended though

hmmm...

@Frank Please tell me this is a real mod

2:40 PM
Also, according to twitter Mick finished the soundtracks twitter.com/Mick_Gordon/status/511826790155698176

Ah, which I don't have

:/

@SaintWacko 'tis.

@Frank I just realized it doesn't matter :(
I really only play civ multiplayer with LadyWacko

@Fabián Killer Cuts finally coming out?

2:41 PM
And no mods in multiplayer :(((

@SaintWacko You can play single player.

All the sads

@Frank Not as much fun

Guacamelee is still in my backlog mostly due to the controller - I really don't want to use mine

2:42 PM
But there's the link for those that want it.

@Chippies Do you have any suggestions?

@SaintWacko I dunno; I like single player Civ a ton.

From that list I mean

@RPiAwesomeness bwah, I have to go through the list and see what I have I guess then, heh

2:42 PM
@Rapitor I guess so, but I'm suprisingly suspecting that the game lacks of many of the characters, like Riptor and stuff...

> Unique Building: Gaming Shrine. Adds +10 to Food and Production yields per tile, +20 to Gold, and +50 to Science, Faith, and Culture.
Okay, yeah, that's totally overpowered.

Yeah, there's only a few games I've even heard of

@Fabián that's what season 2 is for

@RPiAwesomeness if you like minecraft, Terraria might interest you
people often compare it to each other, although I personally don't think they're that similar

@Chippies TERRARIA!!
I agree, though, not all that similar

2:43 PM
but it's a build-craft-survive type of thing

TJ Combo and Maya are already confirmed, Riptor and Cinder are 2 more that are pretty much confirmed.

with a lot of boss fights :P

@Rapitor yea but, are they going to release the ost too soon? Did Mick really finished all the songs for all the characters that are going to be announced / released within S2?

@Chippies Yup, I actually have that one already, courtesy of @JourneymanGeek
:)

Yeah, Minecraft is more focused on the building, Terraria is more focused on the exploring

2:44 PM
ah, alright!

However, if I didn't already have it, I would have

@RPiAwesomeness Yes.

@Fabián maybe it's included with an S2 bundle

and why didn't you ask someone who played the game?

@SaintWacko Yup, and combat

2:44 PM
@RPiAwesomeness I've been told Spec Ops: The Line is really good - again, still in my backlog so I can't vouch myself

@Chippies I Wouldn't recommend that to a minor.

lol, I'd guess not

@5pike oh you old people and your rules
fine...

@Chippies There's some really fucked up shit going on in the game.
Like, really fucked up

2:46 PM
It's very... Yeeeah.

well, there's Civ III if you like such stuff

@5pike I guess I should play it then!

I should finish that game, yeah

@Chippies It's not pleasant, I can tell you.

2:47 PM
@RPiAwesomeness Magicka is pretty awesome
so is Legend of Grimrock

@Chippies spec ops the line is a very interesting game. its one of those games everyone should experience.

@Rapitor so I've heard, but I've been busy with other games :(

I haven't played many third person shooters, so it still kind of throws me off, though

playing single player games when you have a wife that wants you to play an mmorpg with her is difficult

I guess Saints Row is technically a third person shooter, but technically, I played that game on casual because I just wanted to have a good time.

2:50 PM
@Chippies Sims 4 just came out, so I've had plenty of time to play single player games :P

@Rapitor They're releasing (or released?) the "retail version" of the game with many characters missing, Maya hasn't been released yet and Cinder is blindly confirmed.

@SaintWacko she has Sims 3 with plenty of expansions, Sims 4 seems like a downgrade imho

@Fabián when you buy the game you get the characters as they come out, instead of having to pay for each one seperately.

@Chippies In terms of content, yes, but in terms of gameplay it's an upgrade, apparently

@Rapitor Right, I've forgot about that :P

2:51 PM
@SaintWacko Idk, we'll wait for it to go on sale or get more expansions. Doesn't seem worth it just yet
besides - mmorpg's take up all the free time :P

This is why I've given up mmorpgs forever

@RPiAwesomeness Batman: Arkham Asylum is pretty good too
@Unionhawk but they give a lot of replayability
it's not much fun to play them by yourself though

@Chippies I just can't get into mmorpgs anymore because they are all the exact same thing.

@Chippies So do roguelikes

@Chippies That's pretty much the case with every new Sims generation until the "ultimate" version comes out.

2:53 PM
@Rapitor This is why I liked City of Heroes.

@SaintWacko replayability with progression

@Chippies How so?

@SaintWacko <insert your own everything is called a roguelike these days lol joke here>

@Rapitor Tera Online is pretty neat, if you get lucky and your PC can run it fine

@SaintWacko From what I've seen the gameplay does look like it's a big improvement.

2:53 PM
Civ II would be fun, but it's kinda old...

@Chippies Yeah, I mean actual roguelikes

@SaintWacko roguelikes don't really have progression, you die and start over

@Chippies Tera's combat system was the only redeeming feature, but it got old quick because the game is a massive grindfest.

DCSS, ToME, Elona+

you gain experience for your own person, but the game just pretty much starts over from scratch
@Rapitor well, every mmorpg is a grindfest and I prefer grindfest over quests

2:54 PM
ooo...Sanctum 2. I've heard about that

the combat system is what keeps us going
@RPiAwesomeness Civ III, not II

@Chippies I had assumed the replayability of the mmorpg was starting new characters. No?

but yeah, it is kinda old

@Chippies Yeah

Honestly, I quite enjoy Civ 5

2:55 PM
Your game on greenlight won't make it unless it's either a roguelike with randomly generated something something something or a survival game with crafting and randomly generated worlds and zombies and bored

@SaintWacko I guess I used the wrong word. Even new characters though, you get to pimp them out with the high level characters

the last MMORPG I invested significant time in and enjoyed it was Mabinogi.

so you don't lose all your progress by making a new character

The one unit per tile really adds to the strategy

but I guess I meant longevity, not replayability

2:55 PM
What about Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2

@Chippies Yeah, I guess that's true

It's M though...

everything since has been much been a weekend or 2 before dropping

Still, though, The only games I've never gotten tired of were sandbox/roguelikes: KSP, DCSS, DF, Minecraft

@RPiAwesomeness I believe I played the first one like, when it just came out and it seemed mediocre

2:56 PM
Actually, really the only one I've never gotten tired of was DCSS
The other ones I start adding mods

idk about second though

@RPiAwesomeness I heard that it's not really good.

I would say Dark Souls 2, but it's really tough getting back into it after a long hiatus.
Especially since I stopped before the two DLCs went out.

@SaintWacko because you can keep doing stuff in those games forever, pretty much just like in an mmorpg, but in mmorpgs you can do stuff forever with other people

2:57 PM
Is Dark Souls good?

@Fabián Depends on what you want out of a game.

@Fabián Do you like challenging games?

@Fabián if you have a controller and tons of patience and are willing to learn from mistakes then yes

@Chippies Yeah, but there's nowhere near as much freedom

@Fabián If you like a game that challenges you to put in some effort in order to win, dark souls is great.

2:58 PM
@Fabián It's acutally not as hard as everyone says... it just has absolutely no tutorial or learning curve but the difficulty always remains the same

In order to allow lots of people to play together, with no control over who you play with, they really have to remove a lot of freedom

I'm used to it, so I can give it a shot, I didn't see the game so much, I just heard the name many many times

@SaintWacko Sometimes having people with you overshadows the loss of that extra freedom

Or just a couple bad apples will ruin the game

@Jutschge Eh, some bosses are way harder than others.
Like one of the DLCs has a boss that's basically just three mini-bosses at once.
It's hella hard if you take it on solo.

2:59 PM
I can't play a single player game for very long, I feel like I'm wasting time, because I could be playing other games instead
when I play with other people, I don't feel that way

yeah of course but once you've learned how to dodge properly you can kill everything
