Q: What is the average wood consumption of a family in a wooden home?

Resting in ShadeI am interested in getting an estimate of per capita wood consumption of individuals in wooden homes. Does wood consumption fluctuate based on the size of a family? For example: base number X wood consumption + yx where y is the number of family members. As a side note, how does a stone house ...

Q: How does wood compare to coal in terms of home heating efficiency?

Resting in ShadeHow much more efficient is coal as a fuel compared to coal? Does the increase in efficiency warrant switching from wood to coal?

> A thaum is defined as the quantity of magic needed to create 2 doves or 3 average sized billiard balls.
@Garan @AshleyNunn

@AshleyNunn I had to look it up. I couldn't remember what comes after S

user15026
@Sterno That is likely a good thing :P

Urban Dictionary filled me in though: asl What stupid people say on chats to learn who you are and where you live so they can come to your house with a chainsaw and kill you.

3:00 AM
Have any of you ever heard of the Starshield Chronicles?

user15026
@SaintWacko Thank you.

But sterno you said asl earlier though! :P

> The first thing a sexual predator says to his prospective prey.

@AshleyNunn My Google-fu is strong!

@Sterno And here I thought you were asking if he was fluent in communicating with the deaf. :(

3:02 AM
@Stizzle84 That was the joke.

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz Silly puppet, he wouldn't've used the slashes then

O i was abot to say

I have learned to say "no biting" in ASL

Good boy

I'm not sexual predators. I only eat vegetative ones.

3:03 AM
:O

@Sterno This is an important thing to be able to tell a deaf person.

<- Vegetarian

You never know when one of them will want to feast on your blood.

user15026
@Sterno I know a few signs from working in a house of non-verbal people.

user15026
Like shower, no, sorry, popcorn, please, etc.

3:04 AM
I know a few for my toddler. Though honestly I don't know why "no biting" is one they teach, since the toddler can hear you, and isn't going to say it back themselves. Unlike, you know, "I'm hungry".
Pretty much I see "more", "all done", "thank you", and the occasional "please"
A one year old signing please and thank you all on their own is pretty much the cutest thing ever.

user15026
I also can sign most of the hymn "Because He Lives", because I was a uber Christian high school kid who liked ASL.

@AshleyNunn Are you sure that's considered "singing"?

user15026
@Garan I am not sure what you mean

@AshleyNunn Singing involves use of vocal chords.

@Garan Read that again

user15026
3:08 AM
@Garan you're inverting letters I think

OHH. DERP.
I'm not dyslexic, I sewar.

Q: Hosting a game in pocket edition

Stizzle84I tried to host a minecraft pocket edition game and it said that players are connecting but they are not showing up on my map. Is this a glitch? If so how do I stop it?

3:24 AM
@Unionhawk The pinned message certainly is.

@FEichinger LessPop has pinned stranger things.

No it is weird all the time

(protip! You can know who pinned a message by looking at its history. Or you can just assume LessPop did it. That also usually works.)

Q: How effective is the army AI if given specific objectives?

No it is weird all the time
If it is weird all the time, it, by definition, can not 'get weird'. It already is.

True but umm...

@AshleyNunn ... What is it with you and your wife trying to creep me out? >.>
@LessPop_MoreFizz This is actually sound logic. Nice.

3:32 AM
Umm she is a girl @feoi

user15026
@Stizzle84 Congrats, you noticed.

user15026
Doesn't mean I can't have a wife.

@Stizzle84 And? Girls can marry girls in lots of places. And if I had my druthers, they'd be able to marry girls everyplace.

Thank u i have a smart brain!!! :D

user15026
In fact, I once had an actual wife, instead of just an internet wife!

user15026
3:33 AM
@Stizzle84 If so, why did you question it?

No clue

user15026
Or rather, why point out I am a girl? We all know that.

Cry... weep... sob

user15026
@FEichinger I don't mean to be creepy! Remember, I am not in your underbed.

3:34 AM
Just remember, it could be a lot creepier

user20683
@Unionhawk It typically is

and @Unionhawk is wrong again...

@AshleyNunn Well, you're both working together on this.

user15026
@FEichinger We would never collude in such ways.

@Braiam No, I am demonstrably correct in this.

3:36 AM
O yah ash plays
Boo yah scu doosh!!!!

user15026
@Stizzle84 While this is techincally true, I also lose interest fast because there is no concrete goal.

user15026
(And trust me, @WorldEngineer knows these things already. You cannot teach him things about me that are unknown.)

It is to live!!!!!
Creepy

user20683
@Stizzle84 HOW DARE YOU.

sigh

3:39 AM
R u her husband

user15026
@Stizzle84 Not creepy. Relationship.

@AshleyNunn Don't make me go looking for dinosaur noises mp3.
(though I think he heard that one.)

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz THEY ARE PTERODACTYL NOISES

user15026
Gosh.

Uh huh...

3:39 AM
@AshleyNunn A PTERODACTYL IS A DINOSAUR

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz Fine, you win.

user15026
I was going to ask if you had it still, but then I remembered it got starred.

@Stizzle84 I stick by my earlier statement.

@AshleyNunn 'twas just mistimed, dear.

user20683
3:41 AM
@Stizzle84 Is this really any of your business?

user20683
Because I don't think it is.

No but is it your business

user15026
@FEichinger Oh good, I was worried all those hearts you gave me were just you toying with my maidenly affections.

user15026
@Stizzle84 It is.

user15026
He knows the state of things

user15026
3:42 AM
we don't need to talk about them here.

@AshleyNunn Do I need to dig up my explanation of hearts again?

user15026
@FEichinger I know you hate me :P

"hate" is such a strong word ...

user15026
@FEichinger Find me offputting, like old socks?

user20683
@Stizzle84 Precisely, so quit asking questions about it.

3:43 AM
This conversation will be resumed later. (Smug face)

user15026
@Stizzle84 oh hell no it won't.

@AshleyNunn Why would you say such a thing?

user15026
My affections, and the expression thereof is none of your business.

:,(
That was mean

user15026
@FEichinger Well, I figured it was better than hate?

user15026
3:44 AM
@Stizzle84 Perhaps, but I don't like the implication that you are requiring me to discuss my private life.

I don't think @FEichinger truly hates even me

user20683
@Stizzle84 That was the establishment of boundaries.

@AshleyNunn Why, yes, but the use of "socks" when it's your wife who's hiding mine ...

user20683
Boundaries which will be enforced.

user15026
@FEichinger Better than the gremlin that lives in the dryer.

user15026
3:44 AM
@Stizzle84 You are pushing lines. Just so you know.

@AshleyNunn Debatable.

user15026
@FEichinger She's nicer?

Fine i will stop

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz Oh man. :P

Q: Why is uploading termed 'uploading' and downloading termed 'downloading'?

J JWhat is "up" or "down" about it? I mean, geographically it makes no sense. I can upload images, and download images - the former is away from my computer and the later is coming to it but why "up" and "down"?

Q: How do you switch characters in battle in the PS3 version of Tales of Symphonia?

Brian GordonIn the GameCube version, you could use Z to cycle through the characters in the battle menu. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I don't see any way to switch characters in battle in the PS3 version. Is there a way?

@AshleyNunn You hiding in the background? Chat is dead!

@DavidM waves hands I am here

@AshleyNunn I figured. I love that you can tell that people are around by clicking on them

user15026
@DavidM That and I have a broken sleep schedule.

4:38 AM
@AshleyNunn Ha!

user15026
Also, I like your answer there.

I worked today. Working tomorrow and Friday. BEST VACATION EVER!
@AshleyNunn Thanks.

user15026
@DavidM Oy :(

It's a challenging metaphor to explain to people.

user15026
Do you at least get the weekend?

4:39 AM
@AshleyNunn Yes.

user15026
@DavidM My brain followed it, for whatever that means

I'm probably going to take the rug rats skiing on Sat.

user15026
Nice. I've never been downhill skiing. I suspect I would spend most of the time on my ass, or other fleshy bits people generally fall upon.

^ Why I want to live out West and/or in Canada (I cannot simply decide to go skiing around here)

@AshleyNunn Yeah. I had to rewrite it twice. The original metaphor annoyed the OP, and the revised annoyed someone else.
@Unionhawk I live in Connecticut.
So, there's that.

user15026
4:40 AM
@Unionhawk I could, if I wanted, but that means cold and wet and snow and falling.

user15026
@DavidM Oh, people.

The best we've got around here is a tiny little hill in Indiana. Which, incidentally, is also the hometown of the bronze medalist in Freestyle Skiing Slopestyle, so there's that.
But it's tiny
and not great

@Unionhawk I'm taking the kids to a bump which happens to have a ski lift. It's a good place for learning, inexpensive and not crowded.

Oh, well, in that case... meh, good for learning.

@Unionhawk Note: I have never gone skiing.

4:42 AM
@Frank But, you down voted it!

Which is why I clarified "Out west and/or", because, by "Canada AND Skiing", I usually think Vancouver, specifically Whistler

user15026
Bah. Finger stopped bleeding for hours, now it is bleeding again. Stupid finger.

@DavidM Most likely.

Take a look at the trail map for that I just posted.
@AshleyNunn Ahem?
Puts on his fanciest doctoring cap . . . (the one with the giant feather!)

@DavidM That's probably about the same, depending on the vertical

4:44 AM
@Unionhawk I think it's about 14 feet.

user15026
@DavidM I had a run in with my mandoline slicer. Nice slice down the side of my thumb. Not overly deep. Bandaided it for a while, then let it breathe once it stopped leaking. Now it is a bleedy mess again. So I stuck another happy face bandaid on it.

@AshleyNunn Ah, yes. Pressure is a good thing.

user15026
@DavidM So bandaid on?

user15026
(My mom was always like LET YOUR SKIN BREATHE, so I tend to be wary of bandaids)

Here is what we've got. It's okay. It's not fantastic.

4:45 AM
@AshleyNunn Yeah. Leave it on for at least 12h.

It's also probably 2 hours away, and not worth a 2 hour drive.
(from home home, it's about an hour, and worth about that on a good day)

user11743I have a multiple entry visitors visa for five years. I went to USA last year and lived there for one year with my husband (6 months entry and other 6 months of extension). I left USA legally. Now my family wants me to go back and live with my stupid in-laws and husband in USA. I don't want to g...

Ummmmmm mm
Uhhhhhhhh

@Unionhawk The terrain seems a bit more challenging. My place has a "black diamond". I skied it at top speed without hesitation.

user15026
@DavidM Oh. Okay. Will do. (Seriously when I was growing up if I kept a bandaid for like more than an hour my mom would be like "TAKE IT OFF")

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz bwuh

4:47 AM
@AshleyNunn Meh . . .
Let it breath tomorrow.

user15026
@DavidM Okay :)

user15026
Besides, the happy face bandaid is cute as heck.

@DavidM Yeah, I bet. The double blacks are "people have died back here" territory, for definitions of "people have died" meaning people in over their heads without helmets etc, but nothing too too difficult (though... I've been skiing for 16 years)

@LessPop_MoreFizz Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

@DavidM That's what I would do. If (bleeding) { apply bandage; } when (remove bandage) { if (bleeding) { reapply bandage; } else { remove bandage; }}

4:48 AM
@Frank Wow! You must have a REALLY fancy doctoring hat!

@DavidM Sadly, that's the limit of my doctoring skills.

user15026
@Frank well, it stopped, so I was like oh its fine

user15026
then I bled on my keyboard

user15026
which was distressing

Most of it is, if (strange sensation) { proceed to panic; }

4:50 AM
The whole let it breath philosophy is ... overrated. It helps scab formation, but it's better to keep pressure and allow the initial clot to form and activate platelets.
@Frank Yes, perfectly reasonable.

user15026
@DavidM Cool! (I just like being able to say "I am keeping this bandaid on because my doctor friend from the internet told me to")

@DavidM So, wait, I get a doctoring hat just for knowing basic first aid?

@Unionhawk No, no, no. You learn basic first aid when you get a doctoring hat.

user15026
@Frank If it is something weird but like...non life threatening/serious, I call Telehealth, but I dunno if you have that outside Ontario

Duh!

4:51 AM
Yay, my script works.

@AshleyNunn I don't think I've heard of that.

@DavidM So it's like that old Bugs Bunny cartoon?

@FEichinger I thought it was derivative and lacked in character development.

@DavidM So I did all my training the hard way?

@DavidM You don't even know what the script is!

4:52 AM
@TrentHawkins Which one?
@FEichinger It's the one about the two guys, right?

user15026
@Frank Might be ON only, then. Basically a number you can call that tells you like if you need a hospital or a doctor, or in my case, told me what to do over the phone for my extremely icky blistery sunburn that was making me cry.

@DavidM ಠ_ಠ

@Unionhawk Seems that way.

Well dangit. Oh well.

@DavidM With the panic management classes, though, I'm learning that not every strange sensation is cause for alarm. And they usually go away on their own.
@AshleyNunn We do have something similiar to that here, yeah.

4:53 AM
@DavidM Hat truck crashes, hats land on Bugs and Elmer, their personalities switch to match the hats.

@Frank Good! I'm always happy when those things work well for people.
@TrentHawkins Ah, yes that one!

user15026
@Frank I have what I lovingly call the five minute rule. If it doesn't appear to be terribad, just weird, I wait five minutes. Then I call telehealth.

Q: How many points do you need to get a gold medal in Flying Burrito on Android?

user70413How many points do you need to get a gold medal in Flying Burrito on Android? Here is the game on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bitorchestra.flyingburrito

My name is Elmer J. Fudd, I am a millionaire, I own a mansion and a yacht.

@Lazers Yay. A Flappy Bird clone.

4:55 AM
So, I figured out that Perfect North is slightly larger than the ski hill you mentioned, since it's wider, and about the same vertical (~400 ft)
Which is nothing

@Unionhawk It is.

user15026
@Frank THe Play Store is littered with them :(

I learned to ski in Colorado. So... anything that much less than that is...

@AshleyNunn It burns me that people would throw away their integrity for a quick buck.

Yeah.

4:56 AM
But, from the standpoint of dragging the kiddies. 1 hour drive, 2 hour lesson, in the car by noon, and eating at McD's with a huge play place by 12:30. Kids happy.

Steamboat has a deal where kids under 12 get free lift tickets with an adult ticket
So, yeah
My parents capitalized on that deal

My preference is Utah. Direct flight to SLC 30 min drive to the mountains in Park City.

user15026
@Frank idk, its no different than like....all the match three stuff that came out of bejewelled. its the formation of a new genre, as it were.

@AshleyNunn Except there's no real innovation or thought behind any of them. It's all, "Jump on bandwagon. Clone game, slap on new graphics. Done."

@DavidM Yeah, that's true. Steamboat is a 2 hour drive from Denver (cheaper to rent a car and fly to Denver, than fly to Hayden, more direct)

4:57 AM
I can get behind a new genre. Clones aren't, unless they actually innovate differently than the original game.

@Unionhawk I detest Denver airport. I've been snowed in there twice!
TWICE!
Denver should know WTF to do about snow!
Minneapolis never has those problems!

I've never seen a flake of snow in all the times I've been to Denver.
Stuff on the front range, obviously, but nothing in the city

The other issue with Colorado is that you have to take a puddle jumper where you're going. So, it makes the gear annoying.

We've been stuck in Steamboat more than once, when CDOT closes Rabbit Ear's Pass
