Are you on the Companions quest chain by chance? Possibly the quest Proving Honor? Starting this quest (and I think several other Companions quests) sets Farkas (in this case) as your Follower. If thats the case, he's waiting for you at Dustman's Cairn and you won't be able to dismiss him until y...

The "you already have a follower" question is a specific subset of losing your follower. Whereas "How do I find my follower" is intended to cover all issues where this problem happens. We should be closing "I lost my follower" questions as duplicates of the broader one, not the more narrow one. That's what's most helpful for our users, and that's what we should be closing it as.

Frankly, this really pisses me off. Duplicate questions cause enough headaches for new users, so we shouldn't be going out of our way to make that even more of a pain by closing questions of an inferior duplicate.

@Batophobia Yes. Do you not know how duplicates work? The duplicate question is put right on the top of the question. The entire point of duplicates is that this problem has already been solved elsewhere, and here's the answer.

If you have two questions, and one has a bunch of answers and is really broad you should be dup closing to that one. Not a very specific subcase that's arguably a different problem all together
