Q: What do fire rate and reload speed mods do for Bows? (paris, despair)

I'd think reload speed would make it faster to recover from firing to be ready to pull the bow back, and fire rate would help with how long it takes to draw the bow. But, I haven't been able to notice any difference in either. Do either (or both) of these have an effect and is it what I'd expect?

Q: Drowning Horses

After accidentally killing 2 of my 3 horses from drowning I began to brighten up. Why are they drowning? Usually mobs will jump up in the water and that helps protect them. Do horses drown because they are weighed down by the saddle?

When you upgrade a military unit, e.g. an archer, and you have terrain based bonuses such as "15% attack bonus on rough terrain". If you choose such upgrade, when do you get the bonus, when the enemy is on rough terrain, or when you are on rough terrain? Thanks.
