It's a demo of CSS3 animation. This used to require JavaScript, but now it can be done with CSS and is supported in all modern browsers. Plus, with CSS animation most of the work can be offloaded to the GPU, which means much better performance

Look at task manager and see which Chrome process has the highest CPU utilization

Hardly scientific, but I think it works

The jsfiddle page with the code editor uses 3-4%. The demo page alone with nothing else uses only 1%.

Oh right, I should look at Chrome's new fangled inspector, which allows for inspecting page repaint events
