I think he might ask me to kill someone at some point in the future.

I've had several people offer me DOTA2. I am scared of MOBAs

@RonanForman Mine says it's 5 GB.

I just got ri--- gave eight away to random people

Huh, my dad found some weird japanese website that appears to have an old article he published: jglobal.jst.go.jp/public/20090422/200902054677153983

@Ullallulloo Mine too, badp said 10.
@BenBrocka Sue them!

7:01 PM
@RonanForman uh, well, better 5 than 10

@badp Maybe you have a deluxe edition with twice the files.

@badp is a sack of lies

@RonanForman DOTA 2 and DOTA 2 Test don't share files. Both are included. So there.

@badp Sack. Of. Lies.

@BenBrocka citation needed
Slayer of Terramorphous class mods are okay too.

7:04 PM
@badp Maybe you have a deluxe edition with twice the files.

1. ^ your face
@badp You got one?

Nay

@BenBrocka BROCKA B sounds really badass.

@agent86 MOBAs are evil.

@Mana Surprisingly my father's name is also Brocka. Runs in the family

7:08 PM
But hey, if you're really missing Xbox Live, you can replicated the experience by playing any PC MOBA anywhere.

@Powerlord you speak the truth.

@BenBrocka don't you mean also Ben? Or are you joking?

@Mana Joking. His first name isn't Ben but it does also start with a B

@BenBrocka Do you run a Rock-type gym?

Of all of the games in the latest Humble Bundle, if anyone wants any of them, with the exception of Legend of Grimrock, Dungeon Defenders, or Offspring Fling, ping me!

7:10 PM
@Powerlord I'm going to go with maybe.

Is this still relevant?

@BenBrocka Wait. Brocka is your actual surname?

@RonanForman Are you saying Forman isn't yours?

I'm saying I didn't think anyone could be called Brocka, where's it's origin?

Yay abstraction layers.

I have way too many switch statements in otherwise good code solely to choose which function the game this is running on supports. So now I'm moving those switches to functions to abstract that logic from the rest of the logic.

@RonanForman We don't particularly know
> Rosette-Lucienne-Marguerite-Jeanne Brocka
Hell of a first name

@badp Thanks!

Brocka's from the German side of the family but it's not German so we're not really sure how it got in there

@BenBrocka Based on the crappy link above it appears to be Polish.

7:22 PM
@Powerlord my last name is eightysix, for the record.

@StrixVaria Seems possible

@agent86 My last name is "lord"

@Powerlord yes, m'lord

@badp My last steam gift message consisted of

@BenBrocka bacon?

7:24 PM
> Name,
Message
Best Wishes, Ben
(Name is fill-in-the-blank, "Message" is what I actually wrote)

@BenBrocka I gave my brother bioshock, and my message was "(bro), Would you kindly play bioshock? ~(me)"

It doesn't let you give a blank message

@BenBrocka Bacon is the only message you need

Where do I put the bacon for the steam gift?

@BenBrocka That sir, is not bacon.

@Powerlord It is still relevant. As in, I still have them available. But no one wants them.

Q: How do sacrifices affect the Temple of the Sun God?

ParalyticSo after round 101 I Upgraded a "Sun God" Super Monkey to a "Temple of the Sun God" Super Monkey, if you didn't know this makes it consume, or "sacrifice" as the game calls it, all the surrounding towers gaining different qualities dependant on the towers "sacrificed". My Temple consumed a very ...

@Fluttershy Ah, OK. Then again, I either own the games in that bundle already, or they're games by Edmund McMillen.
Dec 26 '12 at 16:26, by Powerlord
In other words, I hate SMB for the same reason I hate Binding of Isaac. Oh, and having played two of McMillan's games, I also know not to bother buying anything else he makes.

Would you stop complaining about Edmund MacMillen?

7:57 PM
@GnomeSlice How about no. And believe it or not, it was on topic.
So, how about them [sports team]?

You're getting me down, man. STAHP
@badp @ullalluloo @john I've made a move, by the way.

omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg
@Powerlord eh, they're two pretty different games

@badp Yet I hated both of them.

@Powerlord More power to you.

No taste.
lolololololololol

7:59 PM
I'm just wondering what the one reason is without judging it. Difficulty?

Difficulty
SMB isn't hard to complete, it's hard to complete PERFECTLY.
Or time-consuming, rather.

All I know is, I've been playing Binding of Isaac and I have never had such a hard time with a Zelda clone.
Thirteen hours in and I still haven't clear a single dungeon past the third floor

@sarge_smith It's not a Zelda clone.

@sarge_smith Did you get it with or without the DLC?

@badp with the dlc

8:02 PM
@badp Not all of his games have the same extreme difficulty or shock humor many object too (see Time Fcuk for a relatively easy/tame game which is still very fun)

@badp by the way, you should play N if you like Meat Boy.

@sarge_smith Yeah, that's the problem right there. The DLC makes the game much harder.

@gnomeslice Seems like the dungeon play from the first zelda all the way

@BenBrocka except Time Fcuk isn't very... fun.

Can someone fix that link, I'm on Android.

8:03 PM
@GnomeSlice How the hell is BoI not a Zelda clone? O_o

@badp can you turn the dlc off? I'm playing the steam version

You mean it's a dungeon crawler?
Okay.

@badp I liked time fcuk

@GnomeSlice BoI literally clones the Zelda 1 interface.

@sarge_smith No, you can't. You can pirate the base game though I guess.

8:04 PM
Did you not notice that?

@BenBrocka I played the first 21 levels, then I was like "eh."

@GnomeSlice I mean, story aside, it is exactly like NES and SNES Zelda games. Even the UI is identical. Do you even play video games? <_<

Yes...
Please unstar that...

@sarge_smith At any rate I suggest you start working on mid-game objectives, aka unlocking the best items in the game
Blow dark rocks. Make it a point to open secret rooms for coins or (better yet) items.

@badp I will overcome it in a manly fashion. and follow your advice

8:05 PM
Use the coins in the shop.
@sarge_smith Do you have Maggie unlocked?

Does BoI become easier after you unlock the later items or something?

nope just got cain four playthroughs ago

@BenBrocka Yes.
Some of the unlockable items are very good.

The best thing about BoI, for me, was the soundtrack.

my collection is about 20% full I'd say.. maybe 18%

8:07 PM
@sarge_smith Well, consider this: Maggie has the Yum Heart - one heart healed every four rooms. If you can get the 9 volt then it's one heart healed every three rooms. If you can get in the shop the battery you can get one heart healed every single room (so long as you give it time to charge).
For the first victory this combination is more than awesome.

@badp I guess I'll start concentrating on unlocking her... that shounds awesome

Later on in the game (♫ mild spoilers ♫) it loses in overpoweredness.

I should play that again. I'll probably have to start over.
I only played it three or four times though.

@sarge_smith Also, if you want to unlock another super awesome item, do the bombs-are-tears challenge.

@badp Bombs-are-tears?

8:10 PM
er tears-are-bombs.
I'm opening up BoI to tell you the precise name.

ahh.. yeah I didn't know if the challenges help the main progression or not

Somehow I got reminded of Fish Squid Time Machine.

"The Doctors Revenge"

My recourse at this point is to blame badp.

@sarge_smith Each one unlocks an item. Some are okay, others are awesome.
Dark Was The Night also unlocks a very good item.
...but well, it's harder than a regular first victory.
whereas The Doctor's Revenge is... differently hard than a normal game.

8:12 PM
@badp gotcha... yeah I will definitely try that

The finest soda drinking simulation ever created is here and nothing will ever be the same http://klls.cr/ULvise

22 minute video is where all the winning happens

I'm back with meat fingers again

@Fluttershy I disagree. It may be similiar in some respect, but I wouldn't call it a clone.

"some respect"

8:24 PM
@wipozn even the enemies are zelda, up to and including there movement patterns. It's a good clone, but the gameplay is definitely lifted straight from that game.

Yes, it's more than just a Zelda clone.
Zelda didn't have permadeath and the Christian tones and whatever.

Still it's fair to say that it's still very much inspired
@GnomeSlice No need to click that link. Everybody's a critic.

I agree with everything @badp just said

When I said it wasn't a clone, I was talking about the gameplay. It probably is a clone, but it doesn't feel like one to me.
@badp click it. You won't regret it.
ANYWAY
> “…everyone knows you can’t run a successful business withoutour principles and pissing on everyone else from a great height.”

Darksiders: Greatest Zelda Clone ever :)

you mean metroid clone?

I still need to play Darksiders. I was going to start it the other day when I realized I still hadn't finished Overlord 2 and went to play that instead.

Darksiders a metroid clone? Time and time again, people's description of the game doesn't match the let's play I've seen

Train simulator is a pong clone. All you do is go back and forth on a single unchanging track.

@badp IIRC he mentioned Zelda as an inspiration in an interview but I can't find the article

8:39 PM
@BenBrocka I think it's so pretty damn obvious there's no need to find the article :)

@StrixVaria train life simulator (debbiedowner.jpg)

It's a metroid clone in the since that you unlock new areas by gaining new powers. You spend a large amount of time rerunning the same terrain.
*sense

@BenBrocka deep

so Psychonauts is a Metroid clone?

I have never played it... and I wouldn't say that darksiders is a clone... it just uses that particular playstyle

8:41 PM
I mean, "you need a new gimmick to explore new areas" is every Zelda game ever

@badp Except the first
(mostly)

and you don't use items to return to new areas that are located in areas you have already cleared
Zelda uses items to unlock new parts of the map. Metroid is like an oscillating fan where the area covered gets bigger every pass

@sarge_smith There's an edit option on the dropdown menu beside your post.

@jason thanks...

@sarge_smith Fun fact: Link's Awakening has a room in the first dungeon that you can't reach without getting bombs... which usually happens on your way to the second dungeon.
Besides which, Zelda 3 has rocks all over the place that you need the two gloves to move.
For that matter, you can't get the Book of Mudora the first time you can enter the library, you have to come back after you have the Pegasus Boots... and the Book of Mudora is a required item in the game.

8:49 PM
@powerlord all those games were influenced by Metroid, which came out in 86
Plus, metroid is a platformer and darksiders is a platformer

Sometimes I think those games are so much a thing of the past
then I realize it's just three years older than I am

@powerlord really, I don't think any gamer can say that they haven't been influenced by both. I mean lets face it, it's not like we have brand new game types showing up all the time. I think the first genuinely new game play idea I 've seen was Heavy Rain and I'm sure somebody somewhere said it got inspired by some minigame collection

@sarge_smith Even the first Zelda game requires some backtracking. For instance, the entrance to Dungeon 4 is closer to the game's start than Dungeons 2 and 3, but you can't reach it without the raft from Dungeon 3. Oh, and Zelda came out in February 1986, while Metroid came out in August.

Q: What all happens when you hit Level 15 playing a trial account?

palswim Notice: This question and the accepted answer refer to the state of SWTOR prior to it becoming free-to-play in Winter 2012 and are no longer relevant to the game as it stands today. A previous question asked about XP at the level cap (level 15) for trial accounts for Star Wars, the Old Repub...

PICK ONE: Delete this question or historical lock this question. Discuss.

@StrixVaria Yes, as it's no longer relevant.

8:54 PM
@Powerlord Treat my or as a modal, not as a yes/no.

@StrixVaria Probably deleted. It contains no information that will be useful to future visitors. And it might send people looking for "trial accounts"

Deleted opens up a whole 'nother can of worms, though.
For instance, should all City of Heroes questions be deleted because they're no longer relevant?

I can see us falling either way, and it's going to set some kind of precedent.

@Powerlord Didn't we have this discussion already?

@JasonBerkan If we did, I didn't see it.

8:57 PM
The problem is that, as @GraceNote likes to remind us, closed questions (as things other than dupe) are destined to be deleted or reopened.

@StrixVaria I don't think it's novel. Personally I'd treat it very much like the Minecraft booster questions

Q: What do we do with questions about games that can no longer be played?

fbueckertSo City of Heroes shut down over the weekend. There is no longer any way to play it, as the servers went dead. Now, we only have seven City of Heroes questions, so there's not a lot of content, one way or the other. But it brings up an important question: For games that you can no longer play ...

@Powerlord Yeah I remember that argument. I don't remember which side I took

So it can't stay in its current state.
We need to do something.

I think the Minecraft booster questions were deleted yes?

8:57 PM
@badp What did we do with those?

@badp Which questions?

@JasonBerkan Oh yeah, that's where it is

@fredley You know, those about carts boosting each other when travelling one besides the other
a year and a half ago or something

So we left the City of Heroes questions open?
But this SWTOR one is closed already.
Should we just reopen it and leave it be with the disclaimer @agent86 added?

@StrixVaria City of Heroes can get back online at any moment; that's the rationale

8:59 PM
@StrixVaria Can't users make private servers?

@Wipqozn They didn't release the server source, and it was proprietary.
I don't know if they reverse engineered the servers or not.

Q: what happens to outdated questions?

Ilya MelamedThere is this question: What all happens when you hit Level 15 playing a trial account? Which was good for its time and got 19 upvotes. And its answer got 18 upvotes. Now the game has gone free to play, and the question is no longer relevant. It can't be edited to show relevancy, for obvious rea...

@StrixVaria The company can put the server back online at any given moment anyway.
