@Wipqozn Don't you need friends to play the tabletop version?

@ArdaXi I lol'd
clever girl. Clever, clever girl...

Also, I prefer 4th, to be honest.

11:02 PM
@stevether Is this for real?

@ArdaXi I lol'd

What? I'm the new generation.

Turn away to handle stuff, come back and everyone's laughing at Arda.

please, it's not about generations

Not those "Essentials" books though. They're useful for general reference, but you want the hardcover ones.

11:03 PM
@GnomeSlice It's 6 out of 5 stars real

@GraceNote Everybody loves Arda!

if you guys are ever looking to get out of D&D I can't recommend GURPS highly enough

Q: Why was my "identify this game" question removed?

BlueRaja - Danny PflughoeftI had forgotten the name of the game, again, and decided to look at my old question about it. To my surprise, I discovered that it's been deleted! The original question/answer can be found here. As far as I can tell, it's specific, descriptive, and has a correct answer chosen. So why was it d...

Q: Is it possible to 'deconstruct' clothing/armour?

GaryGamesoupMuch like smelting ore gives you ingots, is it at all possible to 'deconstruct' clothing and armour to get the material(s) from them in Skyrim? Thanks! xx

Q: Looking for old Playstation game!!

Pete7997In the military we played a game about 14 years ago on the first playstation. It was a mining war game. By this I mean you had to send out scouts to mine for money to by weapons. The map screen would start off black and as your scouts went further out it became clear. It was usually a two play...

Using a gif for text NEVER works.

I should think about what my Biology gravatar should be.

@ArdaXi ?

@GraceNote I didn't even think you could have different ones.

@GnomeSlice Grace cheats.
GraceNote+Biology@StackExchange.com or some such.

11:12 PM
@GnomeSlice I'm pretty sure I explained this one to you in the past when the last time you asked me about my shifting avatars.

@GraceNote I don't think I've ever asked you about that, since I assumed you could only have one.

I do have one image spare on my Gravatar account that isn't quite used, but I'm not feeling the usage of a mermaid for Biology.

@GraceNote What's wrong with you?
That's great.

@GraceNote If you're a mermaid... then what am I?

Your nose a ferret.

@GnomeSlice Part of me wants to capitalize on the wealth of... oooh, hey, symbological genetics...

11:15 PM
@GraceNote I'm not sure if that was my point or not.

And it'd be like double-meta-bio-not-bio.
@GnomeSlice You'd realize the implications if you recognized the term "Symbological genetics"
Oh, hey, Hat Dash has started
Well, not started. Announced. Rather.

crashes through his PlayEarly Mail that haven't came in yet.

What’s that you say? The holidays? Yes, yes, I know. I made that mistake once; I won’t forget again.

Oh, what’s this? A gift? Why, thank you! Oh, it’s not for me? It’s for the users? I see. Well open it and show them what it is.

Well, a hat! That does sound nice. But what good is a hat if you can’t wear it around? Oh. Oh I see! A digital hat to go on your digital head. And not just one hat? Dozens of hats to choose from! My, my. Yes, you have my attention. Please, go on.

Game hats! Of course, we are all about the games here, so there must be game hats. Ah, and I see what you did there, choosing t …

@Fredy31 Is it just me, or are you always breaking things?

Always.
Also I make stuff sometimes

11:21 PM
@Fredy31 Fair enough.

Aeo
@Fredy31 Ahhh... so it turned out well :P Well, better than I expected, at least lol

:p

@StackExchange So, we get hats for Gaming.SE? That post is barely coherent ;-)

@Fabian ...yes, basically

11:26 PM
Does a galaxy need a hat?

GAMING.SE BECAMES TEAM FORTRESS 2?

@StackExchange I'm disappointed that this isn't TF2 related.

@Fredy31 travels trough time, catches mail, succes

@Fabian everybody needs a hat

@GraceNote Is it just rep or will edits and stuff count like this?: meta.webapps.stackexchange.com/questions/1050/…

11:27 PM
I have like 70 digital hats in TF2 already. :P

@Ullallulloo Lots of stuffs
@Powerlord Get ready for digital hats here, then
(and maybe a real hat)

Can we exchange the hats for real game tags? just kidding

@Fabian What? I would.

@DavidFullerton Clearly you want us to all play TF2.
@GraceNote Psst, I think that includes you, too. ;)

I had a feeling you'd try that

Aeo
11:30 PM
That reminds me... I was gonna reinstall TF2 and give it another shot... does so

I don't have any cool hats in TF2 :( it's quite embarrassing, really

I don't have any cool hats in TF2 either, but I'm not so embarrassed by it.

Q: How do I use the [really] secret unlocks?

GnomeSlice There are a total of three unlocks that give a similar message when viewed in the database. I have no idea what this message is talking about. Are these unlockables for a different game or something? How do you use/enable them?

@Fredy31 I had 666 at one point. I've gotten lots of number patterns.

11:40 PM
777 points, but 13 medals.

I think I had 3,333 before as well.

:p

13 is my lucky number.

Oh, I just realized the room topic.

Lol.
Hey, it's @DavidFullerton!
I thought he was dead.

11:42 PM
nope, just very, very busy

I just totally took a Mana to the knee

@GnomeSlice SE only seldomly kills it's employees.

Not sure if it counts as "killing" but @GraceNote is a brain in a tank

Who did the poster?

Actually, how do I know that I'm not a brain in a tank

11:43 PM
@NickT You are. It's called a 'skull'.

I meant hooked up to a reality simulator
like the matrix
how do you know you're not being fed inputs by something that's artificial

I am.

@GnomeSlice @SeanGallagher is doing the design despite being stricken with pneumonia

@DavidFullerton Give him my regards.
@DavidFullerton How ironic.

@NickT What's the difference between being hooked up to a reality simulator and being hooked up to eyes and ears?

11:45 PM
The Simulation Hypothesis (simulation argument or simulism) proposes that reality is a simulation and those affected are generally unaware of this. The concept is reminiscent of René Descartes' Evil Genius but posits a more futuristic simulated reality. The same fictional technology plays, in part or in whole, in the science fiction films Star Trek, Dark City, The Thirteenth Floor, The Matrix, Open Your Eyes, Vanilla Sky, Total Recall, and Inception. Origins There is a long philosophical and scientific history to the underlying thesis that reality is an illusion. This skeptical hypothesi...
@ArdaXi One is real and physical, the other is simulated

What's the difference?
Subjectively, from your perspective, it makes no difference.

Eyes and Ears interpret the world around you, whereas a simulation creates it.

@GnomeSlice That's not true.

Okay.

Eyes and ears simply relay electrical signals to the brain.
The brain interprets the signals.
The brain would interpret the signals the same whether it's a simulation or reality.

11:46 PM
I think it all comes down to hats. If you're just a simulation, then clearly you only need a digital hat. If, however, you are a brain in a tank or similar, then you need both a physical hat (on your brain) and a digital hat (in your perceived reality)

Aeo
We're all just one big game of the sims. Just hope the one controlling you doesn't figure out carpets are flammable. I know what happened when I figured that one out...

Mathematically speaking, there's actually a pretty big chance we're in a simulation right now.

If you say so.

Well, think with me here. If you look at the rate that computing is evolving, how likely is it that at some point in the future we'll be able to simulate our past?

@ArdaXi stop being pedantic with what "reality" means

11:48 PM
@ArdaXi I have mathematical proof we don't exist. (<- hitchhikers guide to the galaxy reference)

Barring any kind of catastrophe dooming us all, the chance we'll ever be able to simulate our past approaches 1.
It stands to reason that we won't do this once, but we'll do this thousands of times.

@ArdaXi Yes, we are in a simulation... the biggest MMO ever created. EVER.

The Equalizer

@Fredy31 I wouldn't be so sure. This could be a simulation inside a simulation.

Oh no. Not this philosophical topic.

11:50 PM
Thinking further the speed of light might for example be a rate-limit created to ensure the simulation won't outrun the host computer.
@GraceNote Don't worry, I'm leaving within 10 minutes.

brain crashes

@ArdaXi however, each time a sub-sim get's made, the simulation happens at a slower rate, approaching 0 eventually.

@alexanderpas Well, yes, but what about those running parallel?

REBOOTING

In the 'master' universe, it stands to reason that my computer won't affect yours.

11:51 PM
makes windows booting sound

So you can have a large number of simulations running in parallel.

And I'm back.

So there's actually a chance of 1 in x+1 where x is the amount of simulations ever ran that we are in the real world and not actually a simulation.

I visited the master universe once. It's not as nice as they want you to think. They have a weird idea about what "green" is.
and the smell, ugh.

Aeo
@Fredy31 That......actually explains a lot. No wonder we have such problems with virii

11:52 PM
@ArdaXi the amount of processing power required is so immense, it can't be run real-time.

@alexanderpas Ah, but I covered that.

also master universe always makes me think:

...does computerized magical rune genetic manipulation still count as biology?

Who's to say the laws of physics were exactly the same?
What if, in the master universe, the speed of light actually approaches infinity, but the simulations simply have a constant value to ensure it doesn't run out of bounds?

11:53 PM
IIIIII HAAAVE THE POOOOOWEERERRRRRR

@ArdaXi Personally I kinda hope for science to die out eventually or otherwise be proven incorrect.

Q: How to kill one of The Companions?

IAdapterI was in The Companions house and Njada was very rude too me. its ok to be rude in this kind of game, but I would really like to kill her. how to do it, so I won't have to kill the whole town? Should I just kill her and run? then comeback and pay some big fine? I bet she is useless in the main s...

@ArdaXi the master-sim not only has to run the sub-sim, bit also every sub-sim inside the sub-sim effectively.

@GraceNote In lieu of?

@GnomeSlice Remember when I said most items in TF2 have downsides? Some have downsides that hardly matter... The Equalizer is one of those (its downsides are that you can't call for Medic when it's equipped, and it does less damage than the Shovel at full health)

11:54 PM
@alexanderpas Yes, but the constants are set thus that anything within those bounds would always be runnable.
And besides, we could be running at 1 FPS for all we'd notice.

@ArdaXi Well, just in general. I'd like to be forgotten in this life time, if not remembered, and quite frankly physics purports one of two scenarios, neither of which permit this condition within the span of our technological capability.
So if science is wrong, then opens up the avenue that things are different. That science is wrong.

Science is a concept defined thusly that it can't be 'wrong'.

@GraceNote the funny thing is that science itself can't be proven wrong as it is mere methodology.

Scientific theories are proven wrong all the time. They are corrected, or abolished.

I could say "modern knowledge and understanding of science" if I wanted to not shortcut the matter

11:57 PM
humans are the universe's middle child

There's still so much we don't know yet.

@ArdaXi speak for yourself, I know everything. I finished reading the internet last night.

@agent86 FACT: Humans are at the center of the observable universe.

Anyway, enough philosophy for today. I'm going to bed, good night.

@ArdaXi Hence the conundrum

11:59 PM
@GraceNote We need something better to take its place first. ;-)

I'd be happy with witchcraft in that case. We could always use a great deal more of that.
