00:00 - 22:0022:00 - 00:00

10:00 PM
@Fabian its painful for me to watch people repeat the same mistakes

for when you don't have pro-tempore enforcement

@badp It's certainly relevant for a significant subset of SE sites

@Fabian yeah, hence MSO material
THE ELECTIONS ARE A GO
on Stack Overflow.

I never really was involved in a beta site, I just don't know enough about the procedure in the beginning

rofl at the first nominations
dogbane:
org.life.java - Jigar Joshi: //can moderate
coneybeare: I would like to moderate

10:05 PM
The SO nomination list is bound to be enormously long an confusing

@Fabian Conveniently, people seem to be making the choice easy by not writing anything.

Anyway, here's what the nomination page looks like:

Let's see how our elections will look ;-)

(no, just loading the page doesn't enter you)

I wonder why it allows you to submit a blank application.
I feel like if you can't even be bothered to write something...eh.

10:08 PM
I think we have much better conditions for elections as we have much fewer active users but a lot of chat activity
We have a better basis to judge our nominees
@TimStone Most of the filled entries now are not really better than blank space

Yeah, I was thinking go complete low-quality post filter on them. :P

I like how all of us are burning to close that question.
Wait, how did I get here?

Q: More thoughts on the election UI

badp There is no lower bound on the self nomination text length. This is puzzling; I'd expect 100 characters minimum, certainly not this: //can moderate or this: This makes especially sense because there is no voting going on during the first seven days: there is no advantage on getting ...

@badp You pulled the thoughts from my head and put them into word form. I should hire you for this service more often.

@TimStone Meta rep isn't that hard to get, yo.
holy crap, I posted this question too early

10:16 PM
They have some strange questions on Scifi.SE

should've waited two hours

Q: Star Trek and Star Wars

David HeffernanI always get mixed up between Star Trek and Star Wars. In conversation I'm forever saying one when I mean the other. Do any of you sci-fi experts have any good suggestions for easy to remember triggers to help me with my confusion? Does anyone else out there suffer this way or am I alone?

@badp Uh oh, you might go over!
Quickly, we better bribe rchern to change the poster ID over to me.

@TimStone Well, if I just go over by 20 I should be fine
Super User and Server Fault also are having elections if you care

Q: StarCraft2: Does Raven's PDD can beat 20 shoot in one time?

BuddaOnce PDD is created he has 200 energy that allows him to beat 20 projectiles. He also has cooldown 0. Does it mean that if 20 opponent stalkers (for example) will shoot in area, covered by PDD, then all 20 first shoots (1 from each stalker, if they shoot simultaneously) will be intercepted by dro...

Q: Graphics Bug on Main Site (but not on Meta?)

Raven DreamerDid somebody fiddle with the site design of the parent gaming site recently? I came home from class today and found the following: I even made sure to use free-hand MS Paint circles... The graphics bug persists through F5 and manual refreshes, seems to affect many icons (including up / down ar...

10:33 PM
The trilogy (minus MSO) get their moderator elections before us? Waaaah.
Not that it really matters since our mods are so awesome; I just want to complain about something.

@Brant except StackApps </nitpick>
I guess that pushes our triumphal confirmation of Grace, Oak and Juan back by three weeks

aargh, I can't edit it anymore
I hate you.

@Brant aw, I even had another comeback!

Oak
It's pretty ridiculous, what's going on on that election page
Especially compared with the articulate reasons the math guys give in their nomination phase

@Oak StackOverflow has more of everything, even bad nominations
But the good ones will be drowned in the sheer volume

10:41 PM
sorry, @sjohnston, but this is pinworthier

Woo shopping!
"We're going to radically change how edit permissions work. Here's two screenfuls of text discussing the way diffs look."
Wha?

@Brant to aid with the 2kers new role, edit reviewers I believe

@badp Not sure what you're talking about.

@sjohnston I had to unpin the Writers ad.

Cool. Yeah, I know that before I got edit permission I was chomping at the bit to fix little formatting errors here and there.

10:44 PM
> The gist is, anyone can propose changes, there are a bunch of caps in place (queue size, pending edits per user, total rejections and so on). 2 Users with N reputation will have to approve each edit. There may be a capped reputation incentive (at the moment we are thinking you can get up to 1000 points 2 at a time for good edits)

@badp Oh. That's fine.

Oak
Why are some nominations grey?

They were retracted, I presume.
Hmm, no.

Why was the number of moderator positions in the election on SO reduced from 3 to 2
Or did I imagine the 3?

@Oak Looks like the greyed out guys have been grandfathered out

10:53 PM
The grey plague is spreading ;-)
There will be noone left to elect

Oak
"grandfathered out"?

disqualified?
locked out?
unapproved?
removed?
banished?
...hanged?

Oak
By who?

So we're not really having elections, we're just pretending?

@Oak The staff, I guess.
Surely enough there'll be a question on Meta about it, or an announcement of some sort.

10:56 PM
@badp I asked on Meta

@Fabian Good boy.

I don't think the staff is removing nominations, that would go against this whole democracy-thingy

@Fabian Those posts are effectively locked
no commenting, no voting on comments, no flagging on comments

It's too many to be self-retracted I would think, I really don't get it.

I think there's a snafu somewhere really
SO has 2 positions open to anyone with 300+ rep
SU and SF have 3 positions open to anyone with 2k+ rep
indeed the SU elections look much better

11:01 PM
someone probably forgot to raise the minimum SO rep before throwing the switch

Oak
11:12 PM
it's 3k now

@Oak not
still 300 here

@badp But can you still nominate yourself?

@Fabian Yes

Then it's not changed yet

Still, not a typo.
Also, 1 rep closer to having a nice, round 7,275

11:15 PM
That meta question nearly doubled my rep there ;-)

@Fabian That's because it's a very good question indeed!

It's just timing ;-)
It is a very obvious question
It feels a bit like my Portal answer a while ago here

@Fabian I would've asked it but I don't want my reps to be eaten by the cap.
I already gained 191 rep today :(

I was never really active on meta, I just read it

Q: StarCraft2: Thor in Strike Cannons mode

BuddaQuestion 1: What happens to Thor when he starts his Strike Cannons mode against target (for example, colossus), but before he stuns the target will go out of Thor's range? Or, probably, Thor stuns it before entering into such mode? Question 2: Will Thor "stuns" enemy firing building (cannon, c...

11:49 PM
> Do you know, I timed how long it took between me inserting the installation CD [for World of Warcraft] and actually starting playing the game, and between patch installation and queueing it finally came down to around 56 hours. And people used to complain about waiting twenty minutes to play on the C64. -- Yahtzee
