@GiantCowFilms There are a number of issues with his theory from what I have seen. (The Theta S is a cool little unit though. Saw one about three months ago.)

I have no idea where he got the value for that sun
both in color and brightness
but I know from experience the sun is never that color (I have oodles of pictures of it, from morning till dark).

@GiantCowFilms So "colour" is a byproduct of the basis lights. In 709 terms, that means that it is a mixture of the base 709 primaries. But what colour would the direct sun be?

@OldMan Interesting render. I'd see that middle grey on the couch and set the couch to middle grey or closer to it. Seems overexposed slightly. (And makes me obsess about the damn transforms... I really need to extend the dynamic range a little, maybe two stops. Urf...)

@GiantCowFilms Ratios are merely scales, so 0..1 versus 0..28137362 doesn't matter, quantization aside; the ratios are identical. One value gets smaller, the rest scale accordingly. So same dynamic range.
@GiantCowFilms If you white balanced to the sun, what colour would your RGB triplet end up?
