@FlyingGambit What type of bulb does it take? You'll need the same type (e.g. H1, H3, H7 etc). The one in the picture looks like an H4, but the description says H1...
@NickC when set up correctly they seem to be okay. They don't have the spam-prevention power that gmail has but you can set up your own spam detection or use any of the cloud services
@RoryAlsop Thanks. Gmail keeps annoying me by adding in more 'features' that I don't want (and by not letting me bounce email that isn't addressed to me), and the server my hosting provider provides is very basic, so I figured I'd have a go at rolling my own
but I don't want to leave any gaping security holes, hence looking at the 'package' type options
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Here's a fun. Escalade starts overheating if I turn the heater on. And, it intermittently blows cold, anyway. It's still freaking cold here, so this is annoying.
It's also raining, so I haven't really had a good opportunity to pop the hood. :(
@3Dave Bear with me as I just spew a hypothesis around that intuition tells me: Something clogged on the big circuit? Wear on the water pump? Hypothetical reason: When you turn the heater on, the pressure difference between hot and cold drops and the remaining pressure is not enough to provide sufficient flow through the radiator.
The intermittently cold heater could be explained by a slipping water pump?
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 @Martin I've never changed the coolant. It's got about 160k on the clock, and, given your typical Cadillac owner's propensity to get dirty, it's probably never been changed.
Coolant is low. I'll top it off, but that's concerning.
Please god don't let it be a head gasket. I do not want to take this thing apart.
Of course, if it's the water pump, that might explain the lost coolant. I think.
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I never understood the Dexcool story: Apparently in the US horrible things happen regularly with it, but in the European forums there is virtually no mention of such issues
@Martin - Because it's all made up twaddle here in the States. I've got 190k+ miles on my Dexcool (yes, needs to be changed), and have never had an issue with it.
I believe it stems from the early years of Dexcool, when something GM was using for gaskets which came in contact with the Dexcool caused issues (at least that's what I believe is the issue originally). It gave it a bad name. Now "internet knowledge" states Dexcool sux and you should never use it. Load of crap if you ask me.
