@Myself congratulations! Only a few years before she can start 'helping' you with the cars ;-)

@Myself congrats! Is this your first?
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 $80 for a short block sounds like a good deal. Now you just need a forged crank & pistons, ARP head studs, a hot cam, and a blower. :)
It is 42* F in Dallas today. And the rain hasn't stopped for more than a few hours out of the past three days.

@3Dave - If I was planning on keeping the car, I might think about doing something like that. As it stands, I'm just trying to get it running and on the road so I can sell it.
@3Dave - I did end up buying the shortblock. It looks to be in pretty good shape. There was a little bit of rust in the upper cylinder walls where it was sitting out in the elements. Nothing a little honing won't take care of, though. It turns over freely by hand. I will need to drill/tap the holes for the lifter spider and for the cam plate. It has bosses for these, but since this was a flat tappet cam'd block, they were never machined in.
I haven't taken the pan off yet. I'm hoping it's a 4-bolt main. Would be an awesome find.

Yo @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2

@Zaid Bubba!

Guess what I'm looking at right now? :)

'Bout time!!

Remind me again, was the first link for a top-end-only rebuild?

The only thing I'm seeing right off the bat was the Amazon one has (what appears to be) an oil pan gasket ... not sure though. There's the large piece which is missing from the Summit Racing one.

6:27 PM
I think also the valve stem seals

might be, but I don't think those two things warrant doubling the price.

And I remember you were asking me something about the cam bolts
in Zaid's Lumina Diary, Oct 22 '17 at 2:31, by Zaid
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 it is a three-bolt cam by the looks of it

That has to do with purchasing a cam ... yah, look at you.
You need me to open the chat back up for you?

Sure, why not?

done
The Amazon one has the front/rear cover gaskets as well.
And some miscellaneous ones I cannot place right now.
I'm not seeing the valve stem seals in the Amazon one, but they are present in the Summit offering.
I bought a 24" steel straight edge from Amazon.
"Supposed" to be good to .002" across the entire length.

6:33 PM
Oh, Ace hardware is finally back in town after a 20-year hiatus

Yeah... I felt like a kid in a candy store

3 hours later…
9:31 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 will so, thank you
@NickC the other two are already 'helping' me, the older one is rubbing his shoes at the interior and the younger one rubbed sand onto the paint
@3Dave first girl, I already have two boys. One is 4 the other 2 years old

@Myself - Seems like yesterday the middle boy was born ... wow, two years flies by in a blink! Glad they can be of "assistance" to you, lol.

9:47 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 how are things in your part of the world?

10:06 PM
@Myself - Not too bad. Trying to figure out Hypergeometric distributions, lol.
Making me crosseyed, lol

10:26 PM
Lol. I plan to overhaul the electrical system at my parents home, I know the timing is bad but I need some handiwork to do.

@Myself - Did you vote for my cheese?
:o)

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 sure

TY! Much appreciated!
I'm #17 right now, so I think I'm in a pretty good position ... but it's a long time until the 9th of next month!

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I wish you luck.
Btw: you all can call me Martin

@Myself - The board is cool, but bragging rights is where it's at! :o)
Okay, but "Martin" doesn't work in the ping, lol!
Appreciate the knowledge ... You can call me Gertrude.
J/K!

10:30 PM
Will change that soon

You cannot claim to be "Myself" anymore ... you've got too big of a family!
:o)

Ok, need some sleep. Have a nice evening
