Q: Late badge unlocking

Yesterday I unlocked the motor-board badge on the workplace site. Thing is I haven't gained any reputation in over a year: It doesn't bother me but seems like it might be a bug.

Well, I'm still wearing my diamond. I expect that to be gone today or tomorrow at some point. I just wanted to thank you guys for all of the support & understanding, and generally being a great community for TWP. You've managed to escape the madness to a large extent and verry on helping the users - something that we're all here for.

I'm going to be taking a well-earned break by adding *.stackexchange.com to my hosts file and trying to detox myself out of all the toxicity around. Hopefully at some point, the community will heal and progress past all of this. It's going to take a long time though. And I'm sure there's more pain to come yet.

The basic "be nice" and "assume good intentions" policies were the best, because they were prescriptive, and not proscriptive. It's always better to encourage the behavior you want to see than to try to stamp out behavior you don' t like. Once a site starts trying to police trolling, it becomes a challenge to trolls.

@Snow yeah, that's why I got so damn mad over the past year or so. I saw this coming, tried to warn people, and was even attacked over it. I felt like Cassandra at the gates of Troy.

It's hard to deal with a good site going sour when you seem to care about it more than the owners do.

I'd agree with you. The majority of other communities I've been involved with don't have this implied set of do and don'ts, they're encompassed by an umbrella of respect and generally work out ok. SE I beleive if trying to do the right thing, but the intent is buried by the message.

@Snow I hope that when (if) we get past all this you'll return. I always liked you as one of the calmer and more reasoned voices in the wider stack ecosphere, and it will hurt losing that, but obviously your own life and wellbeing come first.

@Snow the message is very insulting. It is saying "we don't trust you, and we are going to make sure you behave." Worse, it was demonstrated to be "We are going to toss you overboard if we think you might not comply"

We're all adults here, and for the most part, SE has been one of the best, most kind sites on the 'net. I've seen Userfriendly destroyed and Techrepublic destroyed by the same actions.

Now that I've stepped down from moderation, I've scheduled my account for deletion - in a few days, it'll be gone. I'm doing this because I really need a break and don't want to be drawn back into things again. Deleting my accounts (all of them) gives me that closure. I aim to be away from the site for at least a year.

TWP may well be one of the first sites to have an election. The current mood on the sites means that this probably won't be without drama of one kind or another (people just don't feel that the can move on while the Monica Situation is unresolved (that may take a long time, if ever, but people still won't want to move on anyway). Please meet resistance with peacefulness and raise flags or concerns to either moderators or the CM team. Please do what you can to support Mister Positive.

He's doing an awesome job of holding the fort and supporting this community.
