@nofel - you should look at Fyrish. The estate owner there decided to build the Fyrish monument after returning from the Raj and realising the villagers had no jobs and were starving. I sold my DSLR because it was heavy, expensive , and led me to obsess about photography rather than having a good holiday. Now I just use my phone to take photos.

Very much - I have a few, ranging from phantoms to flat out racing kit. My son is 3rd in the Scottish League this year, and hoping to improve in 2018. I'm not at that level, but being an electronic engineer I enjoy the repair and rebuild phase...

I have a phantom 3. I didn't use it for a long time and now the batteries are just dead. It's going to cost more to get new batteries than it is to sell it without the batteries.
@Nofel if you want to take lovely pictures, get a Mavic. If you want to race at 80mph round a tight course, buy a cheap one. Doesn't matter which, as you will crash it. Once you get better you will know what to get.
An opportunity for overtime on another project has come up at work. I think I may go for it and put myself forward, but I've already recently been assigned to two additional projects.

@RichardU Between myself and you guys, that's what I thought I'd do when I was younger. I loved the idea of seeing something new every day, having a God's eye view of a place, writing it up and editing

I forgot to mention, I postponed the test after chatting with my Toptal guy. It turns out R is no longer an option to test on. We paused my account until it's added to the tests again, and in the meantime I just offered to send him some of my old R projects
@Nofel I was happiest when I had enough to live on and didn't have to worry about paying for things. The heater on my house died, so I bought another one, no problem. Car died, I bought another one, no problem.
@RichardU Hey Rich, ever heard of a book called 'Scarcity'? I'd highly recommend it, there's an entire chapter dedicated to the idea of 'slack', how important it is to your mental health to have just a little extra wiggle room
for example I bought a washing machine a year ago. If I didn't save up I couldn't have afforded it and would have spend 2+ hours a week and well over 10$ a week to wash my clothes in town

I taught that to my nephew one time. He loves video games, so I told him would he rather buy a video game for 50 dollars or 80 dollars. Of course, he said 50. I explained to him, buying on credit is like paying 80 for the video game.
@RichardU Indeed sometimes that arrangement was literal, there's a whole history of 'indentured service', where people would take passage to a new country on the agreement that they would pay the fees for their journey back by working once they arrived
@Nofel that's why it's important to earn wealth. You get as rich as you can, honestly, then you become the one in charge of your wealth. My GF gets cars with zero interest because her credit is so good.
@jserv That was the origin of slavery in America. The first slaves were IRISH, not African. And indentured servants had far worse lives, as if one of them died, so what, but if you had a slave, and he or she died, you had to buy a new one.
@Nofel it takes time but you can recover. Mine credit rating was so low from hospital bills that nobody would loan me a dollar for a cup of coffee. I came back from that too. :D You can do it too, :D
