hey folks

@RudraMatroja Hey @RudraMatroja

Morning everybody

Hello.
16:08
And this one: on-topic?
@ArtOfCode Yes. He's looking for a monitor
@Andy I was under the impression it was looking for a combined solution: cable+monitor to run out of the primary monitor.
@ArtOfCode Eeeeh...I'm leaning toward no.
@Andy I was thinking too broad or opinion-based on the second one.
Undo for the win on that one
@ArtOfCode I don't think the cable is important. He wants a monitor that can passthrough the signal
> Does a monitor with a video-out passthrough exist?
16:13
@Andy Aye, true. OK, plenty of scope there then.

@Undo Regarding general questions I was proposing that if don't allow them, that we still permit them as long as those questions still ask for a legitimate, in scope, on topic, sufficiently focused hardware recommendation in addition to the general question, and to give the general question context.
@JTL Yes, but in that case we'd just edit out the general part and leave it as the recommendation, thus making it on-topic anyway.

@ArtOfCode I just see some potential value in the general part of those questions. I don't know if I've seen any great examples yet, though.
In my mind, I imagine someone asking something like "How do I chose a graphics card for my gaming PC?" This is too broad. But if they include specs (games they want to play, price, etc., we can help them out with a recommendation. If we also answer the general question by explaining where the recommendation comes from, we may come up with something that is broadly useful and has the potential to perform well in search engines.
Having said that, it's entirely possible for people to answer questions in ways that include that information anyway, even if OP didn't ask the general question.
I will also concede that the current policy is a more objective way of dealing with these questions.
@JTL Hmmm... I can see your reasoning, but I can also see that the reasoning we voted to restrict these again still applies to those.

@ArtOfCode I don't think I can really argue with that.
I would have no problem with people answering unasked general questions, if they want to do that, but I feel like permitting general questions in any form is a slippery slope if we want them on their own gone.

@ArtOfCode I can see that.
But sure, if you've got the time and/or effort, go for answering them!
Upvote material, there.

Is a transducer on-topic? According to our definition it's not, because it's not a PCP or designed specifically to interface with one.

@ArtOfCode I say no. It's on the verge of being something complex enough to allow, but it still only performs one basic task for whatever it's used in.

Opinions please (yes, I do this a lot) - it's closed, though I disagree with the closure. Should it be?
