Q: Differences from SuperUser

RookieTEC9Unfortunately a lot of questions here are about Hardware support as well as shopping. These questions belong on SuperUser. How do we prevent users from asking questions? How can we as a whole improve on this situation?

aaaand i'm back
buuuut i'm alone
i hate timezones
as much as in coding as in real life

@RudraMatroja Welcome back.
05:45
Woof
My "stuck in my head" playlist is wiiiierrrdd
so
what are you guys upto
Oh, just got a (cheap crap) chinese SSD into my old laptop
Its a lot faster now ;)
what size?
what price?
120gb ~40usd shipped
not so bad
05:47
Its one of the new 'cacheless' silicon motion controllers
i'm gonna wait for the new ssd stuff
(top's the old drive, bottom's the new one, natch)
nice
do you know when that new technology from intel is coming out?
JTL
JTL
Ah, nice.
05:50
In theory next year for enterprise stuff
the 3d xpoint stuff
but new tech dosen't always work as planned
like memristers
so I'll believe it when i see it
can anyone tell me what's wrong with my answer?

Q: 4G router for home use?

bobA family member is moving into a new home soon, and for various reasons I've recommended that they purchase a 4G router instead of continuing to use landline broadband: Mobile data is insanely cheap- the provider that I've suggested they use have an offer on PAYG (Pay As You Go [prepay]) that g...

I really do not get what is comment is for.
JTL
JTL
Oh yeah, I remember seeing that one.
06:05
I mean the answer is pretty clear, it works like a normal wifi router but is 4g
isn't that what he wants?
JTL
JTL
@RudraMatroja I wondered the same thing when I first read it; I thought your solution seemed fine. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with your answer. My best guess is that Bob wants there to be 4-port switch built into the device, and that he just assumed that this was a standard thing.
hm
"Should be suited to home networking" vaguely hints at that
but that router IS
But his options don't
blaaaah
Yeah, that's just odd
JTL
JTL
Right. Though to be honest, I haven't been to many homes (besides mine) where people actually use the built in switch.
06:09
i mean, the dude's asking for xyz i show him the xyz and the dude goes nah i wanted xyz didn't you read it?
(jacki chan meme face)
lol
Most folk are happy with wifi.
JTL
JTL
Yup.
well it is extremely popular
it just needs some way to bypass the interferences due to walls
or homeplugs should get cheap enough to be placed in all the rooms to get max sppeds
06:17
I need at least... 2 routers APs to cover my apartment
and erm...
I've got all the ports on the 5 port switch in my room used ;p
ahahah what exactly is your setup?
you have a nas set up in your appartment?
lol
lets see...
JTL
JTL
Also, there are accessories for the device you recommended. Just stick it in one of those cradles and it becomes a home router.
OBT -> Router 1 -> Ethernet -> Switch (one PC connected) -> Homeplug -> Homeplug router 2 (Desktop Laptop X2 NUC class home server)
and er...
one or two spare systems, dad's 2 laptops...
JTL
JTL
I don't know how much they cost, though.
06:22
(well one of my laptops is my mom's in theory. She never uses it, and its my old one, and I've been working on getting it slightly upgraded)
JTL
JTL
@RudraMatroja maybe you can point that out to him to show that it is also designed for home use?
Well I do tell him that it's made to be used like a wifi router
@JourneymanGeek that's a bunch
I might have missed one or two
@RudraMatroja: We're on a 5-7 year replacement cycle
but we rarely throw anything out ;p
lol
so you're into gaming?
or editing stuff?
so we have 2 desktops (tho one has a dead monitor, and no one uses it so I haven't moved my second monitor there), I have 2 laptops (my old one, and my X220) and a netbook and my brother's old laptop...
I'm a hardware geek ;p
JTL
JTL
06:26
@JourneymanGeek Heheh, I know how that is, long cycle and not throwing things out, that is.
I game a little, do some very minor graphics design as needed...
you should send me some of the equiments
like when te next gen graphic cards pop out
If shipping man, shipping ;p
06:27
you could a couple ot 980 ti over here
JTL
JTL
Hahah
the 980ti is ~6 months spending money for me
it's old gen come on
06:28
you don't need that
JTL
JTL
Yeah, don't be stingy, man.
you should get the 1080ti
remind me in 5 years ;p
06:28
(and heh. Once I get the next job, I'm probably going to look for a new second screen ;p)
chances are i'll be able to afford the lastest techs but no time to appreciate
lol
I mainly game on weekends
but IPS + 4K is just yummy even with text.
JTL
JTL
@RudraMatroja That's where I am right now. I want to replace my laptop and buy some other things, but I'm working about 50-60 hours right now, so I wonder if there is much point to it at the moment even though the added 10-20 hours I work each week is all just extra that I can afford to spend.
yeah but i that point you just want something that works when you use and sdoes'nt need it to be tweaked
@JTL heh, that's the reason my main mobile laptop is pretty basic.
and always has been
The gaming box tends to get cracked open on weekends or when I'm at home
and well, its also nice for watching stuff, since I hardly watch TV
JTL
JTL
06:35
Mine is pretty higher end, but it is seven years old. It might mechanically fail sooner or later.
My TV is connected to my desktop.
@JTL: our secondary system is from 2007
was midrange then
Parts replaced as stuff fails.
Lets see... video card, HDD, one fan, 2 PSUs...
how cheap is hardware therE?
hmm
fairly cheap?
But you really really need to comparison shop
JTL
JTL
Mine is a Dell Studio XPS, so the parts aren't quite as easily replaced as they would be if I'd gone with a Latitude back when I bought it. The chassis/hinges would probably be more durable/in better shape, too.
@JTL: my most recent laptop is a stream 11
lively thing but if it breaks, I'll probably buy a new one and get it covered in stickers like this one ;p
JTL
JTL
06:42
Hehe.
(quite literally nothing replacable in it)
Unlike a thinkpad.
JTL
JTL
Yeah, If I replace mine, I have honestly thought about going from this >6 pound 16" thing to something like the Toshiba Encore Write 10", mostly for the sake of the digitizer. Though other devices with pens are/have come out recently, so I need to learn about them some more.
heh. The surface pro's the one that I hear nice stuff about
surface pro is the one everyone's hearing nice stuff about
but the price
everything is awesome if you can afford it
JTL
JTL
Yeah, it's steep, but maybe not unreasonable for what it is.
There there's this thing, starting at $2200 for the base model.
07:08
you planning on gaming on that stuff?
wait
viao is back?
didn't sony throw that brand away?
JTL
JTL
They sold it.
But most of the engineers came as part of the deal.
I am some, but I may save that mostly for my desktop. I notice that doesn't have dedicated graphics.
you should go with the new dells
I saw one recently at my uncles, he had got the best they had to offer, and man is it good
aesthetics and power
i7 58xx series
960m graphics
16gig ram
pretty lightweight
so damn beautiful
JTL
JTL
Precision? Or Latitude?
I do have familiarity with their products over the years, but I'm hoping to get something with a decent digitizer. I think they only include that in their tablets.

1 hour later…
08:40
digitizer?
you mean like a tablet?
seperate? or integrated in the touchpad?
09:03
you could also go for the special windows 10 deition
the one that's just as classy
all sleek
almost border less display

Q: How can I make my question clearer?

bobA few days ago I asked this question. It hasn't received much attention other than a few upvotes (with a single downvote the same time as the downvoted answer was upvoted), and the OP of the answer doesn't seem to grasp that their suggestion does not meet one of the requirements that I set out i...

@RudraMatroja I mean pen input. Not a plain stylus, but one that is pressure sensitive. Wacom, ntrig, etc.
