Can anyone comment whether it's better to use Zoom on Debian with a desktop program. or with a browser plugin? I don't know if this is a suitable question for the site.

@FaheemMitha Browser, no question about it. The app is crap. Zoom is crap in general, but the app is certainly worse than using it in a browser (which doesn't require a plugin, as far as I know).

@terdon OK. Was just trying the app, which seems usable, at least. Though I'm a bit worried about security issues.
In what way is it crap? Meaning either the app, or Zoom in general.

@FaheemMitha I just really don't like it. It always gives me trouble, screen sharing is very badly implemented in Linux, there's a menu that keeps disappearing, you can't blur your background etc. The browser, at least, lets me blur.

@terdon I see. I just installed it for the first time. I doubt I would use it on my own. It's mostly for group meetings, isn't it?
There was a group meeting I was invited to, which is why I installed it.
Really big package. 160+MB. Though that's probably quite restrained by proprietary software standards.
@terdon What is your preferred software for group meetings?

12:36 PM
@FaheemMitha Uninstall it and use your browser.
@FaheemMitha Google Meet, hands down.

@terdon OK.
@terdon Browser plugin?

Easy to use, platform independent, blurs my background, works in the browser with no app required.

@terdon I'll bear Google Meet in mind if I ever have the need for a group meeting.

@ilkkachu you know much more about POSIX than I do, I'm just quoting the specs, but they do say that in the special builtin case, it is unspecified:
> Whether or not the variables gain the export attribute during the execution of the special built-in utility
> Whether or not export attributes gained as a result of the variable assignments persist after the completion of the special built-in utility
What is it my answer is getting wrong there?
Ah, crap, never mind, got it. Thanks, @ilkkachu.
