@jesse_b It sounds like your friend should avoid the investing game. But you're a good friend to try to help him. Maybe you should try the shaking and screaming thing too.
If you ignore things like valuations, equities just become another way to lose money. Like a casino, but less fun.
It's tricky even if you know what you are doing.
@jesse_b I read news reports about this. It was a big news item for a bit. As I understand it, some big financial firms lost quite a lot of money because they were shorting the stock, and the stock price didn't drop as they expected. Historically this is an unusual phenomenon.
@jesse_b I recently came across a mention of Walter Schloss in my news feed. I investigated a bit further, and I really liked his thinking. He's also mentioned in www8.gsb.columbia.edu/articles/columbia-business/superinvestors, which you may be familiar with.
There is at least one long interview of him on Youtube, but not a lot else.
Of course, stocks that meet his criteria aren't necessarily available, at least in the quantity/variety needed for a portfolio.
@FaheemMitha Yes. But I could not help. I remember I read Bombay Drugs and cosmestic Act then. I talked to my brother's friend about hospital loot. She said she would help me about this. But till this day she didn't reply.
@PrabhjotSingh Well, my cousin, who is/was also the Trust Chairman, was arrested in October 2019. As far as I know, he is still in jail. I can't remember if I told you about that. I also can't remember how much we talked, or how much I told you.
@StephenKitt Eh, I'm at ~88k. Some work still. And I got my 100k swag from U&L, I'm not sure I want more to be honest. I'm cautiously optimistic that SE is actually trying to improve, but not quite ready to give them free advertising yet.
(my son and I have a similar tan problem, in a cyclist variant — our arms and parts of our legs are tanned, with nice straight demarcation lines where our shorts and sleeves stop and our socks and gloves start)
It's interesting to think that being pale was once a sign of being well-off (you didn't have to work in the fields) to a tan being seen as desirable, to skin cancer
It's a contentious subject. Kinda like whether guys can be gender neutral, but I've heard both terms used by women for women often enough. In fact, the only two people I refer to as "dude" these days are women, but I'm not one so that isn't really a strong argument.
There are some terms used in the military to address a general group of people in which women are sometimes lumped into that really make no sense and would probably be pretty offensive trollface.jpg
But yeah, I would only use it as an interjection, I think. Something like "Dude! Can you believe this?" is gender neutral in my mind while "That dude over there" is not.
