Q: How to create two slave jenkins for a master jenkins?

overexchangeBelow code snippet, taken from here creates master jenkins running in a container: # Create Docker Group with GID # Set default value of 497 if DOCKER_GID set to blank string by Docker Compose RUN groupadd -g ${DOCKER_GID:-497} docker # Used to control Docker and Docker Compose versions install...

@overexchange please stop spamming your questions to /dev/chat.

@cas What's wrong with that?

0. It's spam. 1. question spamming doesn't belong here. 2. he does it for all or most of his questions. 3. as with all spam, it doesn't scale - if everyone spammed their questions here, /dev/chat would be completely unusable for its intended purpose (i.e. chat, not duplicating the main Questions page). 4. and, inevitably, like all other spammers he'll claim (and perhaps even believe) that his spam isn't spam, that it's important and useful information.

@cas Calling it spam is perhaps a bit harsh. But I concur that people shouldn't routinely post their questions in the room, at least not for questions posted on the U&L site.
10:07
@Jesse_b I'm not sure it needs even 10 years for phones/tablets to win over desktops. I sometimes hear that it's already the case for most/many websites... (Which seems impossible though, given how bad most ad and popup-ridden websites are even on a laptop, but that's what I hear...)

@Jesse_b I think you need to draw a clear distinction between computer "fun" and "work". The desktop may be on its way out as a general computing device for things like email, games, news and general browsing, but if you work on your machine, you'll need an actual computer for many years to come. You can't type worth a damn on a phone or laptop.
11:49
@overexchange when you drop the question into chat like that, creating a big "one box", without any other discussion around it, it's not clear what your objective is. Do you need help writing the question to make it clearer? Are you inviting people here to answer it? If you haven't posted it on U&L, then U&L chat participants may not be very interested in it. Please take these things into consideration, and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
@terdon No kidding. Indians love their phones. But those things are torture to use. For me, at least.
@terdon I know a few devs who work quite a bit on tablets, with a separate keyboard (so somewhere in between)
@FaheemMitha For me, it depends on what I'm doing. They're fine for some things but not fot others.
@StephenKitt If you use a separate keyboard then it's essentially a computer with a small screen ;)
@terdon I'm thinking specifically of typing messages. They aren't great for phone calls either. Poor voice quality, at least here. I find landlines are still much better.
@terdon yup, and usually more constraints :-/
a certain user is trying to pick fights again :-(
11:55
@FaheemMitha Ah, those I've almost completely forgotten. I have a landline in my house in London but I doubt I've used it more than a dozen time in the past couple of years.
@StephenKitt ?
Yeah, I saw. Your patience is immense, as usual.
@terdon I’m going to end up ignoring them
Sounds like a plan, if you can do it.
Sorry, have to run to a meeting.
I think it’s the only sensible thing to do unfortunately. Enjoy your meeting!
@StephenKitt feel free to flag any threads that go on too long (for a move-to-chat) or that get off-topic (for deletion)
@JeffSchaller yup, will do, thanks!

@terdon Mobile networks here are unreliable.
Sound is now not working for my Skype installation. Does anyone know of usable alternatives that can call US 800 numbers for free?

@JeffSchaller appears so: stackoverflow.blog/2019/11/04/…
@JeffSchaller oh wait, no, that's a different Microsoft product ("Teams"). Too much noun collision.
20:12
"access the power of Stack Overflow for Teams inside of Microsoft Teams" ...
yo, we heard you like teams so...
What is the “general” of SO chat?
Teams²
@JohnnyApplesauce the general room? I'm not sure if there is one. There's ... 34 pages of rooms, dedicate to almost every topic

@Jesse_b it's true they all had computers, but what did they use them for? Mostly just as glorified typewriters. Very few people really USED those computers to their full potential. And those types of people will still use computers.
An analogous question: Has the existence of recorded music markedly diminished how many people go to live performances? I would say "not really." Music is more accessible than ever, and yes, most of that is through recordings. (I'm not sure this is a great analogy, actually.)
The point is, 50 years ago, virtually no one even had access to computers. Then, with home computers, everyone had a certain lowest common denominator of access—but very few people really knew how to use those to any great extent, and they just used the computers to fulfill very simple purposes.
Now those simple purposes are fulfilled with phones and tablets, and the world has gone paperless to a large extent so many people never need a printer at home.
22:13
@Wildcard They still love paper in India.
@Wildcard Yes, I was trying to make the point that for even modestly complex technical work, a phone is horrible. It seems to me a rather self-evident point, but apparently others don't regard it as so.
Sometimes even a regular computer seems inadequate. There are times I wish I had three screens, for example. And maybe more than the normal complement of hands.
I have two screens, but one of them is quite small.
Well, either that, or one really big screen, perhaps curved.
22:43
(Not a recommendation, just a search result.) :)
@FaheemMitha it's only self-evident if you actually know how to touch type. A surprising number of people don't. You won't meet them online, obviously.
@FaheemMitha they do in the U.S. too, but mostly you can get by just fine without a personal printer. You go to a hospital or a lawyer or whatever, you're likely to sign on paperwork, but my point is that for your own work you can often get by without a printer (and hence without the need for a computer that connects to a printer).
Although for that matter I think tablets and phones can connect to recent home printer models anyway.
@JeffSchaller thanks for the "slow typesetting service" ;) although I'm even slower about actually testing it....
A close family member just had a major surgery. Recovering okay, but it reduces the attention I have available for extra projects.
@terdon That sounds an awful lot like what I said :p
@Wildcard This is also what I said
@Jesse_b I suppose I would have to disagree that it was ever really alive. ;)
I also addressed the typing on the phone thing. As far as the monitors, they will be obsolete very soon when VR becomes cheaper. You can have unlimited monitors in VR and phones can already support it
I don't think attaching a keyboard to the phone is the future though, I think something else is going to come along that I cannot even fathom
@Wildcard Oh it certainly was, it still is. Virtually ever single person in every single first world nation owns a personal computer

@Jesse_b That is ... probably not true.

Is there freely available (used) unlocked GSM (e.g. TMobile or AT&T) hotspot? I'd happy to use it with FreedomPop. That is one of my holiday wishes.
