@AndrasDeak I wrote a reply that I have thought better of, but the number of suspensions is also proportional to how many of the follow-up puppet accounts are detected, so long ones don't necessarily make for fewer of them - if anything the reverse, if catch rate is high

@AndrasDeak Broke how?

8:28 AM
@MichaelHomer yeah, I assumed law-abiding hotheads

@MichaelHomer wouldn’t that ultimately lead to a deletion rather than a suspension?

@FaheemMitha wouldn't boot. Recovery mode wouldn't work either. Needed a live usb. Then a newer one because fsck was too old on this one. Fsck said "corrupt group descriptor".
@StephenKitt nah, they almost never do that
For spammers yes. Real users not really.
At worst they get a 20-year suspension

Jeremy got his a while back and it will end in 2024

I wonder how many users suspended for a long time actually come back when their suspension lifts

8:37 AM
We know at least 1

I also know of at least one who got suspended and asked for their account to be deleted

Yeah, that could be more common

I managed to get perma-banned with my IP blacklisted in a single post (my first one) on [H]ard|Forums, they don’t mess around there

@AndrasDeak What filesystem type?

9:30 AM
@FaheemMitha ext4

@AndrasDeak Oh. Huh. That one should be stable.
Running Debian? Do you have any idea why it happened?

@FaheemMitha debian. Gnome crashed, probably because due to memory problems. I tried recovering my session for an hour then gave up, backed up and rebooted. Which didn't quite work.

@AndrasDeak Might be hardware problems.
Is it a laptop?

Laptop. 158 days uptime. SMART says hdd is fine. Memory seems OK.

hdd said "fine. I'm fine, stop asking"

It's been IO heavy for a while. Swapping and probably local firefox things in my home.
@JeffSchaller heh

@AndrasDeak Hard drive might be fine, but it could be something else. Motherboard, perhaps.

@FaheemMitha how?

4:22 PM
@AndrasDeak I'm not sure what you are asking. And the MB thing is pure speculation. But typically FS corruption for no reason, at least for ext4, seems to me to point to some sort of HW problem, because I don't see what else it could be.
I'm constantly abusing my filesystems (also ext4), and they cope.

@FaheemMitha I'm asking what kind of MB problem would corrupt the filesystem on exactly one partition.

@AndrasDeak Oh. No idea. I was just speaking generally.
