@gilles you have a question like this one but for mouse/pointer devices? unix.stackexchange.com/q/116629/41104

@terdon $_ contains an arrayref. $_->[0] gets the first element

I have a question that was probably asked before but I can't find it: Why *esk* doesn't autocomplete to Desktop by pressing <TAB>? It used to work in Fedora 12, but it does not in Fedora 20.

@derobert Yeah, I figured it all out. I just had to expand it a bit. I'm not used to taht syntax.

Q: what is the data type to find the float

@terdon has 4 now, just needs 1 more vote to close
@terdon - had high hopes for this Q being the 100, but it's running out of gas. I think the wait one @ 85 is still my best horse in the race 8-)

Q: Have backticks (i.e. `cmd`) in *sh shells been deprecated?

slmI've seen this comment many times on Unix & Linux as well as on other sites that use the phrasing "backticks have been deprecated", with respect to shells such as Bash & Zsh. Is this statement true or false?

@slm That's a damn fine reference Q&A though. I was surprised that they're not explicitly listed as deprecated.

slm
@terdon - as was I. I think they can never truly deprecate them though given they're pervasiveness in probably millions of shell scripts everywhere. It would cause a lot of chaos. I was equally surprised that we didn't have that Q here, so I was happy to add it 8-)
@terdon - I figure over time it will get 100 just b/c we/I can reference it any time the topic comes up in other Q's too

Fingers crossed :)

slm
I know it's sad but I just want to unlock all the badges just b/c
It's fun if you get one that Gilles hasn't, but I've yet to actually do this 8-)

12:23 PM
@terdon How'd you get that one? They switched you over to the accepted afterwards?
that one is also a maddening badge to get
@terdon Maybe stephane will give me one of his 8-)

@slm Yeah, he accepted mine after it started getting way more upvotes.

slm
makes sense, I might have to start going back through some old Q that has a wrong A and fixing it, not sure how you can increase the odds on that badge 8-)

Heh :) Luck of the draw really.

@terdon - yeah, it's just a annoying like a mosquito to me 8-)

@derobert If sounds like you are really into cooking. Is it ok if I ask you food/cooking questions?

3:57 PM
@FaheemMitha sure. Or of course you can ask on Seasoned Advice

@derobert Right, but the usual restrictions apply. E.g. no recipe requests.

yep. There is also the site's chat room

 The Frying Pan

Sometimes hot, always heavy. (cooking.stackexchange.com)

@derobert Is that active?

yes

Apparently so.

@derobert yeah, normally people solves those problems The Wrong Way

@Braiam "Nuke it from orbit" apparently isn't popular, because its a #@!*(#*-load of work.

missing build-depends?

@derobert <3
of course, DNSSEC still has all the problems of CAs. but still. nice.
very nice.

@derobert that is one of the problems, the other is a dependency removed, libudev0

@strugee Not all of the problems. It AFAIK avoids the any CA can certify anyone problem.

> convincing the build system to stop using -Werror (bug#671994)
O_O
well... debian i386 testing will not have chromium... let me try the amd64 build
yay, 64-bit FTW!

I have a laptop I want to use to run ipfw. I suppose I need a USB Ethernet adaptor with multiple NICs? What is one I could use with freebsd?

@derobert maybe, I don't recall.
@barlop ask on Unix & Linux

@strugee they won't close it as a shopping question?
