Q: About mods' removing comments so that ( it seems to me ) nothing inconvenient for mods remains

Kentaro TomonoI made a question. It's up to the readers if I saw an answer had come before the mod deleted the post itself. And the mod noticed the answer afterward and reopened it. I said as you can see at the comment line "I will delete after an hour", which is the violation to the etiquette of the SE and w...

Word(s!) of the day: tamp down

The last snow will thaw by the next morning.
It's already 13 C, but this morning I made this photo in the park
It was still minus 2 at 6 am

On 2 May 1984 it was much, much worse
Trams stopped in their tracks due to snow

Apparently they have some program at one of the local high schools where they bring some Americans for a week to like, I don't know, represent their University or whatever.
They do some science experiments with the pupils and such.
So I've been playing basketball with a bunch of them for 2 days. I was surprised I had no issues understanding them at all. And apparently they understood me as well.

They're from Louisville, KY, so mild Southern accents.

@userr2684291 Wow, that's great

@snailboat Nice, intuitive meaning
@userr2684291 That's reassuring. I had this English teacher that was a bit of a jerk and he invited a 'friend' of his who was said to have spent some time in the UK. Dang, the guy talked like his voice was played, recorded and played again by 12 mics. Inside a well. Under water. Anyway, that scared the hell out of me and I thought to myself all this has been pointless if that's how native speakers sound like
Because I didn't understand an effing word he said.
But with time passing, I've realized it was probably a lame theatrical show, for whatever end. Probably just so the 'teacher' would have showed off a bit.
He didn't have an accent, mind you. It sounded like if you try to imitate a walkie talkie and talk at the same time

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Yeah, you never saw the whole events. Thanks to Colleen V, the things further aggravated. I am not "accusing" anyone, read my line, I am "doubting" the way the mods handled. So I am "proposing" that only one mod should not do everything by him/herself. Otherwise their "voluntary works" could be useless or even harmful. I have nothing to say anymore. I will be gone for a while. — Kentaro Tomono 1 hour ago
I dunno if they intend to, but this guy tends to come off as overly emotional
It wasn't even clear if the duping upset them, or whatever
Their explanation of how the things turned out looks like me when I'm trying to explain a movie without spoiling it.

Q: Will 700 more planes a day fly because of the Heathrow expansion?

J. DSome people are protesting a proposed expansion of London Heathrow. I saw some protestors of the Heathrow expansion with signs that read "Stop 700 more planes a day". Greenpeace tells me "A third runway would mean 700 extra planes a day using Heathrow." Will 700 more planes a day fly because ...

Really weird title.
What are the chances a native speaker would phrase it like that?
A native speaker of English, not Heathrowese

@Snail plane might be able to ex plane this planely

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I think it's different with Brits, though. Americans and non-native speakers of English are generally easier for me to understand.
Aside from my fellow citizens, Russians (and other speakers of Slavic languages), Germans, Indians are probably the easiest.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I think for the purpose of a title where you’re trying to pack a lot of information into a few words, it’s OK
Will the expansion cause daily flights to increase by 700? is how I might ask it.
It is a little awkward because they started with what they wanted to emphasize and committed themselves to passive voice
By echoing the articles they were using to support their question

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Ah. I like user Kentaro Tomono. He's very honest in every interaction.
